  1. We tried bombing 10XDs and then dragging big jigs, produced nothing. The next day I tried dropshotting and it didn't work so well, provided I've never tried it before.
  2. I'm from Illinois, I flip banks. I fished a tourney last weekend and all we could find were fish sitting on top of stumps in 20-35 feet of water. How do I get them in my boat.
  3. Anyone hear of these guys? They sell both rods and reels between $120 and $150. They have rods buy one get one rn. Seems like a pretty good deal to me.
  4. I was wondering if there was more than one. Preferably closer to Madison. That's too bad, would have been a fun opportunity.
  5. I'm currently having fun in class with navionics! I'm searching my local lakes for flats. What do you guys consider a flat in regards to depth and size?
  6. Howdy guys, I'm fishing this weekend in Southern Indiana, it looks like it's going to be partially cloudy in the morning with chances of a storm around 12. The high is 75 and the previous night is supposed to be the same, but it's supposed to be around 65 in the morning. Is the gonna be that awkward time between summer and fall?
  7. Hey guys, You may have seen my earlier post about my bargain GL2 spinning rod (853JWR). I'm searching for a new spinning reel to go with it. I generally plan on it being an all-round spinning rod, as I have a much lighter rod I use for dropshots and shakeys). I will probably be putting Invisx or braid with an invisx leader. I have hook ups at Abu, Flooger and Lew's. So im looking for a nice reel around $100ish. I currently have a Flooger Sumpreme XT and it's great. I not so sure what size reel to go with, but definitely want it on the smaller size. Thus far I'm thinking a Revo S or maybe an Orra SX (I had a bad experience with the Orra baitcasters). Or maybe a Supreme from Flooger. My hook up at Lew's is limited, so unless everyone here unanimously decides I should get a Lew's I'd be fine with a Team Lew's or a Tournament Pro. As you may see, I'm a little flustered and haven't done all that much research, but I have a report due in the morning, so I figure y'all will have posts before I'm awake again! Thanks!
  8. Is there just the store in Park Falls? I'm heading up to madison to get my new puppy in a couple of weeks and wouldn't mind stopping at a croix store first.
  9. Dobyns 704 is what I have on the way for just this. Unless you tend to throw light spinners, you can use the same rod for chatterbaits. For most spinners I'd recommend a medium (Dobyns 3 power) and since chatterbaits have much more vibrations, I would recommend a medium-heavy (4 power).
  10. Thanks guys! Are you guys into the fall transition yet?
  11. I have a Fenwick EliteTech, awesome rod, great price point. I've used a Dobyns champion and it's great, so that'd be my recommendation at your price point.
  12. I just acquired a GL2 jwr, its nice. My buddy just got the dropshot rod, I'll keep you updated. I use a fenwick elitetech and it's great. Super light, very sensitive.
  13. Just acquired a new GL2 spinning rod from my local Dicks. It was only $90, so I just snagged it, didn't really need it, but hey it's a good deal. I got a 853JWR, anyone got anything to say about it?
  14. Lew's are great. The Speed Spool LFS is good and only $99. If you spend more you could get a BB1 in 7.1:1 and that'll really cast a mile. It's what I use for my frog reel.
  15. Upper level Lew's and Abu (if you want to spend a bit more perhaps) are pretty good. Just remember to take good care of them, and almost any reel will last a long time.
  16. Howdy, I'm gonna be fishing Lake Patoka this weekend. I've never been and haven't even fished in Indiana before. So ANY advice is welcome, current conditions, what to throw, where to throw it, it doesn't matter haha. Thanks
  17. BB2 Pro? Only difference between the BB1 and the Pro is just the external brake dial I believe.
  18. ^^This. I use Trilene mono, Sunline SX1 and Seaguar Invizx
  19. This. I frequently use a 806CB for 6/10XD, it's graphite and i've never had a problem with it. I've used a glass cranking rod and I'd probably go glass for a pure deep-cranking rod.
  20. Spinning rod gets braid with FC leader, just make sure that the diameters of the two lines are similar. Fenwick could be braid or FC (maybe a leader too.) If you ever fish frogs, get 50# braid, if you not, go 14# FC. I'd also pair this with the 7:1. The Shimano is gonna be a reaction baits rod, so put some 14# co-poly on the 6:1.
  21. So I overfilled one of my reels with line by accident. Noticed there is a bit of extra resistance reeling in, and it doesn't cast as well. It doesn't look like the spooled line is touching anything, so why do these things happen?
  22. Here is what someone at Dobyns told me when I recently inquired about a frog rod: "For frogs, I would step it up a power to the 735. The 734 lacks the power for frogs. Even if you are fishing them in open water, the 734 doesn't have the power to get good hook penetration with hollow body frogs. The frog style hooks spread apart on hook sets, and work against you on getting good hook penetration. So I really would recommend going with the 735. For both hollow body, and buzzing frogs." I currently use my DX745 just because I don't have any heavier rods. Here's what he said about that: "To be honest I do not recommend the DX745C as a frog rod, the DX line was designed and built to be the best and most sensitive contact bait rod you can fish with and they do a very good job at those techniques however the Champion series are much better suited for baits like frogs, buzz frogs or buzz baits. I highly recommend the Champion 735C. The Champ 735C has just a little more power than the DX745C does and it also has a better action for frog fishing. I would love to recommend a DX745C for you but the truth is that the Champion 735C will be a better choice with the right action and power for frog fishing."
  23. St. Croix Triumph 7'MF (upgrading to a Dobyns D703 soon) Lew's BB1 7.1:1 30lb Smackdown braid
  24. 6'8 Med-Mod, 7:1 reel, #30 braid: Topwaters 7' MH-F, 6:1 reel, #12 FC: Spinnerbaits/Chatterbaits 7'4 H-XF, 8:1 reel, #12 FC: Jigs 7'6 MH-Mod, 5:1 reel, #10 Copoly: Cranks 6'8 ML-XF, 6:1 spinning, #8 FC (Braid leader): Shakeyheads and Wacky Rigs I actually prepare 6 rods for each tournament, and the 6th is usually a back up or similar to my main presentation (assuming it's one of the 5 listed.)
