  1. Don't remember the last time I picked up a tube or spinnerbait. Plan on using the tube this year but probably not the spinnerbait.
  2. I bought an older Bass Tracker with a 40 horse Mercury on it last year for $1800 and it's been a great boat so far. I think that I got kind of lucky but I would check the overall condition of the boat to make sure it wasn't rode hard and put away wet. I also think it's reasonable if you're serious about buying to take it to a nearby lake to make sure the thing floats and doesn't have any noticeable leaks. If he's serious about selling he should have no issue with that. I would also make sure they you get the boat and trailer written out in the bill of sale if the trailer doesn't have plates or hasn't been registered in a long time. I put a new trolling motor and electronics on my boat and just got it out of storage today. My first boat as well and it totally changed how often I went last year and how many fish I caught; a great investment for me.
  3. Second this. As a fellow Nebraskan, I can say that this is a thread I always check out when on BR.
  4. Sounds like a guy who roots for a team who has gone 1-7 to the Broncos since Peyton showed up. I'm sure Alex Smith will get them going in the right direction next year leading that explosive offense. GO BRONCOS!
  5. I run the trolling motor in the front and have the monitor mounted there. My dad fishes out of the seat in the back and I want him to be able to see what's going on as well. The finder currently mounted on the steering console is visible from where he sits in the boat but it's hard to see as it's an old model and not very detailed or bright. Actually, thanks for he comment; that does make sense! Haha, my fault for not thinking this through a little more. Thanks again!
  6. I currently have a Lowrance Elite 5 on my boat that I have mounted to my trolling motor and am looking to upgrade the finder that came with the boat mounted to the steering column. I have the chance to get another Elite 5 and I was wondering if there is a way to link up both finders so that they both read off a single transducer?
  7. Good luck with this endeavor since I've never envied a fishing guide. I've used one twice with good experiences but I have go to imagine that you're going to get some guys who are jerks and don't have a realistic expectation of what a day of fishing should be like. Obviously, your knowledge of the area will be a huge asset but your ultimately affected by the time of year and the weather. One thing to consider, however, and just my working man's opinion. I know that kayak angling is becoming bigger and bigger, but I, personally, would never pay to fish out of a kayak. The few times I've used a guide, it was an expensive experience but I knew that going in and was willing to pay for it to get a knowledgable guide fishing out of a comfortable boat or ice house having a few beers while the guide did the work and we listened to his tips. A kayak would also limit your ability to accommodate larger groups; I've gone with a bunch of 4 guys for all of my trips. not trying to discourage you as there is a local kayak guide in my area, but I have no idea how he does professionally.
  8. Was that supposed to be a picture of Coors Light?
  9. Then you haven't heard correctly.
  10. A popular destination is the western part of my state allows no live baitfish, so frozen smelt are a popular option for setting tipups for pike and bass. I can't say that I've ever caught s fish on them but I know guys that have with somewhat consistency. I cannot wait for hard water and was getting my shack ready this weekend.
  11. Or it's the length of the worm, regardless of what percentage of the worm is covered by the hook. 1/2 of 3" leaves 1.5" of "wiggle". A 5" bait with 1.5" of exposed worm wouldn't have much "wiggle" either. It's easy to snap a 7' rod in half but a lot harder to snap that 3.5' portion in half again.
  12. KVD recently did an article for Bassmaster and had the following to say: Above all, use heavy line. I throw buzzbaits on 25-pound monofilament that has some stretch and allows the fish to eat the bait. Fluorocarbon line wants to sink and has less stretch." I'd go with KVD. Also, I definitely won't use flouro for my other topwaters such as spooks and poppers. I rarely use buzzbaits but always throw them on mono.
  13. Wow, future father of the year here.
  14. Congrats on the fish and kid. I will say, however, that I just had the first born on 8/17 and have been fishing 6 times since then. Your wife will understand; no reason to shut it down for the year.
  15. If a floating frog is difficult to use, a Rage Toad will be even harder. Stick with a floating bait that is weedless.
  16. The old Excalibur Spit'n Image is my favorite; I have to buy them on the auction site to find them though.
  17. Thanks for the help Cadman. Final question: what's the best way to keep paint out of the eyelet?
  18. I'm wanting to start powder painting my own lead jigs; mostly smaller crappie jigs. I've got some Pro Tec powder paint on the way and a fluid bed. Any tips or tutorials you guys could link me to? Thanks in advance.
  19. Nice job. I caught 2 around 3 lbs last Sunday at Viking Lake.
  20. Just make sure to check your local regulations. Throwing the carcass back in the lake is very illegal in NE; I would also assume it's illegal on any body of water that has a slot limit.
  21. Awesome passive aggressive post, as usual. I try and put mine on ice right away and only use the livewell if I don't feel like cleaning out the cooler.
  22. Bass Pro Pro Qualifier is a great reel for $100 and is often on sale for $80 and even cheaper during the Spring Classic. Lots if good rods in the $100 range. I've used the St. Croix Mojo and Premier, Abu Garcia Veritas and BPS Johnny Morris Carbonlite with good success but like the Veritas the best.
  23. What area of the state you in? Caught 26 at Pony Creek near Glenwood 2 weeks ago but no weight to brag about.
  24. Bass Pro Shops Pro Qualifier is a great bang for your buck and is good for both novice and experienced fisherman.
