I have the Quantum Tour Edition PT Gary Klein signature series flippin stick and love it. The guides wrap around the rod for a parabolic action and it has a split rear grip, 8 foot long. It's a nicely balanced rod and I highly recommend it for the money.

I've got lumps all over my forehead from banging it off the windows. We have a couple days of 50-60's then get pounded with sub freezing temps and 8 more inces of snow. Old man winter will you kindly GO AWAY!

Another option is a Toho-Rig Livewell, Bass Pro sells them for $179.. It's a little pricey but comes with basically everything, divided livewell, pump, spray bar, straps to secure it inside boat. I've used a large cooler for years but dividing it for 2 angler's fish has been the major drawback for me. I've had several dividers rigged up but the fish thrashing around broke them all. The Toho I bought will solve that. I'm doing some mods to the Toho such as using a different pump and spray bar, then I'm making a fill and pump out device with the pump which comes with the Toho. I will echo what has been already said, a cooler will do a good job for you, better than a Rubbermaid container, if that is the way you have to go.

When you say deep, what depth do you want to hit? For some people deep may be 10 feet, others 20+ feet. I use Norman DD22's and Luhr Jensens Hot Lips for my deepest structure fishing. Both will generally hit 15-18 feet on a long cast and 10 lb test. If I'm shallower the DD14 or DLN gets the nod (10-12 feet). For 6-9 feet I use discontinued Rapala Fat Raps. Also going to experiment with Manns 20+ to see how deep I can get this bait, ice needs to melt first

Man that stinks. I run jets also and have had times where the intake was clogged causing a problem like your mentioning but if everything was clear I dunno.... Sounds silly but check the plug wires to see that all are hooked up. I bumped bottom one day and after the motor did as you descirbe. I would give it full throttle and engine wouldn't rev enough to get boat on plane. I pulled the hood and found a plug wire had come off, hooked it back up and boat was back to normal. Another thought, is the outboard set to the proper height? I assume it is coming from a dealer but who knows.

That fish is a tank! Mattlures thanks for sharing. Oh and BTW, your bluegill swim bait is dynamite for big smallies that are around beds, If you drop it anywhere in close proximity it gets smoked!

My suggestion is not so much about what to bring but when to get it all ready. There has been good responses for you to this point. When I'm readying my boat and tackle for a tournament day I do it the night before. I sit in my boat, arrange the tackle and gear, re-spool and re-tie what ever rods I'm using. Once my boat and gear are ready (including just about everyting the prior posts are mentioned) all I have to do in the morning is wake up, hook up to the boat, and leave. I found that this approach helps me sleep better as I'm not worrying about getting up in enough time to ready the boat and (or) forgetting something. If I do remember something I had forgotten to ready or include (after I'm done in the boat) I write myself a note and lay it beside my keys so I don't forget it in the morning when leaving.

Apply the same basics of structure fishing to your lake. Look for humps, breaklines, rock piles, bluffs. Drop shot, tubes, carolina rig and other things others have mentioned will get you some bites. Also, if the water is clear don't ever rule out a hard jerkbait, soft jerkbait worked across the surface, or a topwater of some type. Feeding smallies will often come a long way to nail a bait on the surface or a biat worked erratically.

Yep, same day 2 show (for the most part) back to back this morning, now NO TV coverage until tonight at 10:00 PM. KU Bassmaster did make a good point in another thread, competing with College basketball right now is next to impossible. Do I like it? NO, but I certainly think it gets more viewers hence ESPN's decision not to have more live coverage.

I'm probably going to take a beating for my opinion so I'm ducking already. After viewing the Swindle's fly by, as an angler I would have no problem with what he did (If I were in Howell's shoes and I waived him on). Would I have driven through the same way.... probably not. He recieved a DQ for a rules violation, he admits his mistake, end of story in my boat. I do not view it as dangerous as alot of the prior opinions have stated. Maybe my opinion is based on my experience in boating on a shallow river. It is not uncommon here for a boat to pass within a close distance, you just plain have to. Quite often a boat will be floating in the channel and where you have to run to avoid striking bottom. We are used to it and accept it. It the name of the game when on a shallow river running jet drive outboards.

A colorado blade will lift your bait, a willow dosen't tend to lift as much. Generally, when waking a spinnerbait your reeling pretty fast. My suggestion is a 1/2 to 3/4 oz bait. With a 1/2 oz I like a number 4 willow on the back, a 2 willow in the front. With a 3/4, 4.5 in the back, 2.5 willow on the front.

You will definately want a m/h rod with plenty of backbone. I use a Kistler Helium 7' mh fast action, sometimes I wish it were heavy. Like already said, I don't think a drop shot rod will have enough power for your tube needs. Big smallies have a tendency to clamp down on the bait and when you set the hook it never even penetrates. Whatever you buy, make sure it has enough umpf to drive the hook home.
