I think you are all on the right track with this. It does take all factors to produce the really large fish. genetics (strain & purity) environment (water quality,weather, parasites, disease) nutrition (types of food & caloric content available) predators (types & abundance) The older the fish gets, it becomes more susceptible to the negative influences in its home range.

I also know bass are, at times cannibalistic and opportunistic feeders. I have read that once the bass fry are large enough the male who has been protecting the nest will turn on the young and chase them away or try to consume them. If this is true, a baby bass colored lure would be best in mid to late spring (post-spawn). My question is how cannibalistic are they really? If they were super cannibals we would not have any. I have also caught bass on a bass colored lure every season, not just post-spawn. If you have some true bass biology education please give us some insight into this phenomenon. Thank You.

As a percentage, what do you throw more often? I throw 60% soft plastic and 40% hard lures.

I don't know what size hook you are using, but with paddletails there is alot of soft plastic to ball up and get in the way of the hook point. Sometimes if you go up one size in hook it can help.

Never had a problem with Ebay. Just read carefully and decide what you want and what you are willing to pay including shipping. Pretty simple. There are good and bad people everywhere, Ebay is no exception. I have had people refund shipping and even give me lures for free when the transaction & shipping process did not go as planned. Bottom line, be carefull and also report problems to help get rid of the bad eggs. Giving bad feedback can save others.

I collect lures for fun, but all of mine have or will see the water at some point. If they are older or rare, collectors pay big bucks especially if they are in the original box or packaging. I guess it depends what you get and if you are willing to possibly lose it. I fish first and collect second as a side hobby. I read a report years ago by the state of Florida on all of the studies that were done on the peacock bass and how it would or could affect the So. Fl fisheries. It could survive without damaging any native species and could not spread north due to temps were it may affect other fish. They did their homework first, before the stocking program. Although I have never caught one, I have heard they fight better than most freshwater gamefish. So they improved a fishery in so.Fl. Snakeheads were just dumped in by stupid people and took over. I have read that snakeheads consume eggs and fry of other gamefish and can eliminate a population quickly.

Has anyone had success shaving the dive lips on cranks and jerkbaits to make them run shallow or even wake the surface? I would like to experiment to create a wake bait with a different action than what is currently on the market. I am afraid if the lip is shortened, it may lose too much action. Anyone tried this before?

Anyone repaired a broken lip on a crankbait before?

I have an old discontinued crank that I love, but the clear plastic lip is now broken. Any ideas on what material I could get to fix or replace the lip. It is hard clear plastic about 1/8th inch thick. Once I get the material do I just cut or drill out the old piece and glue in the new one? Thanks. Never tried this before, Any help would be appreciated.

I like it. A cost of business increase is one thing, but 50% smells like greed to me. Everyone can understand a moderate increase is sometimes needed to offset the increased cost of doing business. At least now they know that anglers are not stupid people and will not stand to be ripped off. If companies are not careful and become greedy they can easily price themselves out of business. In tough times, some profit is better than none.
