Exactly, Nibbles. I was wondering if the new px68 is that much better than the older yellow orange, or red ones?

Is the new diawa pixy that much better than the older models? I want to get one but the older models are much cheaper. Is it worth the extra dough for the new version? Anyone have any experience with them?

I use the suffix performance braid on all of my spinning reels and have never had a problem. Great stuff imo.

SSBass, That is a List. You have either been extremely good this year or your santa is wealthier than mine. Nice lures, I hope you get them all and then do a review on the best.

Clean the spindle and inspect it. It should be as smooth as a babys rear, no grooves or nicks or anything. If it is ok, buy a new hub. It is easier and not much more money and you won't have to mess with all the races and bearings and small parts. Just be sure to get the right one. Some spindles are tapered requiring different inner and outer size bearings in the hub. Some spindles are straight. Get the right size, slap it on make sure it is greased, and go fishin.

I agree keep the tip down and you can control them better. Another thing that many people forget, or think you don't need with trebles is a strong hookset. I always give them and extra jerk, not too hard, and that seems to keep them from throwing the bait back at me.

I love fall when bass start busting shad on the surface. For about 10 minutes the area is alive with jumping bass and the action is non stop. Then it goes still. Nothing. I have heard the bass are still there, they just go down deeper. If this is true, what do you throw to get more bites? Usually nothing works until they come back up, if they come back up at all. Are they really still in the area? and has anyone figured out how to get them?

I normally fish with the 7" worms. Recently, I purchased some 10" and 12" worms to hopefully attract some larger fish. Do you fish these big guys any different than the smaller version? Any tips or tricks for bigger worms would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have heard good & bad about these sure set hooks. Should I keep them on or replace with a quality regular treble hook? Thanx.

They are not designed to run crooked. It is the physics behind the bait. A rotating blade produces torque. The larger the blade the more torque produced. That will cause a slight arc in the retrieve. In most cases it is hardly noticable. As stated, a few correctly placed bends can change the angle of rotation and offset the torque. Also the knot you tie can affect the angle of pull. The line needs to come straight off the pull point. These things are all minor and can sometimes help the angler get a bait closer to cover. Experiment and have fun with it. The counter-rotating blades will correct that arc if you want it to track straight back to you.

I use a grease gun on the fittings about once per season. Do the bearings have an escape overfill area if you install too much grease? I am always scared because I was told if you add too much grease you will blow out the seal and ruin the bearings. Any help would be appreciated.

Is the large metal wire on the front some sort of bumper, or a 2nd very large line tie place? This is a strange older lure and I just wondered how it works? Thanks.

They are right. The top two were called chowhounds. The bottom is a lindy little shadling.

I would bring a bag of light colored flukes. They make a good shad imitation and can be fun on the ponds if the time is right. Good luck.

I think you guys should cut AA a break. He is asking questions about baits to see if they work before buying and that is smart. If someone has questions about lures this is the best place in the world to ask those questions and we should encourage it. ww2farmer, your advice about fishing what you have is sound and I agree, however, some of us like myself have very limited time to fish and we look for answers to help offset the learning curve of time invested on the water. We all know there is no magic lure. Since we do not always have time to really learn each lure, we often stay close to fishing by purchasing lures, reading this site, watching fishing shows, etc. There is no real substitute for fishing, but these other things help us cope with items that take up the time we would rather spend on the water. Besides, without guys like us the bait monkey would die a horrible death and PETA would shut down our site. ;D

I believe it just depends on who's lurking on ebay at the time. I have seen some fairly common discontinued baits go for $30 and on other days rare stuff will go $12-$18. The bad economy has also played a part recently, with fewer people affording new toys. On discontinued lures, you should easily get 2 to 3X what you paid for it.

Do you have any more info on it? That tail should give us a good lead. It definately looks like a Japanese import like "Evergreen" or "Fish Arrow." I cannot find an exact match, but it looks like a great swimbait!

Started trying and collecting some crankbaits. Has anyone tried the Mimic lures or Catching Concepts Baits? The paint jobs look good. I have also contacted BIG M to see if I can get some of his beautiful works. Is there others that might be recommended?

I use them all, but for the money the BPS one works just as well and is much cheaper and is often on sale.

I use the original megastrike. I do not like the new stinky version. I beg you to go back to the original formula or sell both versions. It works. Fish hold longer and it is a great lube for weeds and hooking up soft swimbaits. I have a Cavitron, but have not used it enough to give an opinion.

I believe this was a minnow that was imported to the US from Finland by a company called Nils-master. Some of the earlier ones were made by a company called Finn-Kala & imported by Nils-master. I think the you have is called "invinceable." Most were imported in the mid 1980's. Look on ebay and you may find some that are similar. Hope this helps.

When is a bass lure too big? Not including the giant swimbaits of Cali, but a large lure for catching an average bass in anytown USA. It seems manufacturers are making baits larger, both hard lures and soft plastics. 7" to 12" is becoming more common. I know bass will at times attack prey like a mouse, snake, baby duck, etc., but this seems rare. My question is, When is a bait so big that it scares off the fish instead of attracting them? If I was an average bass and saw a 12" bait coming at me I would not think of food, I would head for cover. Your thoughts please.
