Great post. I am curious, how do rig the craw? Does the hook go in the narrow worm end; or with the hook in the top front end between the claws ? Thanks.

I agree also, the older ones feel thicker, heavier, and stronger. The new ones are just plain cheap junk, probably mass produced overseas. The hardware and hooks are like tin or aluminum. Once again, a great product ruined by the greed to make more money. Shameful.

This color topic is very interesting and I enjoy everyones insight. I believe the super colors produced today catch more anglers than fish. Early on, the top color produced and sold by those pioneer companies was a white body with a red head. I have never seen anything in the lake that looks like that, but they worked. Some of those companies still produce that color???

If there is schools of baitfish, definately match them. On fast moving cranks, they do not have a chance to see the color. In this case I think flash and light reflection trigger a reaction strike. Slow moving soft plastics, dark colors catch fish anywhere. The bright colors work sometimes again depending on forage (white may resemble shad). The bright pinks and other odd colors I think are just reaction or aggression strikes. JMHO.

I believe you are correct. They will float first due to trapped air & gasses. This is normally when they are consumed by birds, esp; raptors. If they are pushed to shore by wind, other scavengers will feast. In a large body of water they may float until the gasses escape and sink to the bottom where turtles, crawdads, leeches and other fish may feed. Depending where you live, you may have many scavengers and thats why you do not see many dead fish.

Just keep your state's game & fish number on speed dial. Whip the cell out and turn em in. I have done this several times. Give them the hull number and any other info you can. The game & fish are under staffed to cover all waterways and they take citizen calls serious and will often times give you a case number. Operating any watercraft in a reckless or dangerous manner is illegal in all 50 states. Help get the jerks off the water and get back to fishin!

It appears they resurfaced the whole thing. It is still a shallow ramp. I wish they would have made the whole area larger. They replaced the dock with a smaller floating model. They should have made a place to beach your boat (boat parking area) while waiting to load up. It is an improvement, but with a bit of planning it could have been much better. The area is too small for the volumn of vehicles. If you fish there, give us a report. Good Luck.

As the others have said, try bending it slightly, slow down your retrieve and sometimes your knot maybe a bit crooked, try retying. Some buzzers do lean a bit but the fish still hit them. Good Luck.

I have to stand on my boat or my back gets very sore. I have tried fishing sitting down, but it doesn't feel right. I guess years of bank beating as a kid, standing comes natural. Bill Dance always fishes sitting and does great. I think sitting close to the water could offer a few advantages. 1. Not likely to spook fish in clear or shallow water. 2. It may be easier to see and cast under trees and docks. 3. A diving crank may run a bit deeper. 4. Lastly, you will probably never step on your gear or fall overboard. I'm sure there are other advantages as well. I know some older guys who fish all day sitting in a canoe and always do much better than I do. Either way, good luck fishin!

The last time out I saw a couple of boats. The first angler had an Ipod he was listening to and the next guy had a stereo playing while he was fishing. Personally, I like to listen to nature when I fish. The birds, fish surfacing, crickets, etc. Am I missing something? How many of you guys jam to your tunes while fishin? Just curious, Does the sound of a stereo attract or repel fish? Any thoughts?

Trust me Burley, reckless operating of any watercraft is against the law. Also parking your shizzit on the ramp so no one can use it is also against code for loitering.

I have the department of game and fish for my state on speed dial. I simply whip out the cell phone and report the incident. I can't tell you how many personal watercraft hull numbers I have reported for reckless and dangerous operating to close to me while I am trying to fish. They take it serious and give me a report number that is being filed. I hope they catch the scoundrels and slap a big fine on them, and that cash goes to improve fishing! P.S. I have also reported idiots at the ramp for taking way too long to load or unload. >

I think through the gills method works, I just have not mastered it quickly enough yet. My solution, get a long handled extra sharp pair of side cutters from your local home store. I can cut through even the thick superline hooks fairly easily. Once cut, all or most of the hook falls right out. It is quick and it gives the fish a better chance of survival in my opinion.

I do not have the bearing buddy system. I have a grease fitting sticking straight out of each axel behind a rubber cap. I know to add grease about once per year. My question is how do you know when you added enough? I want it full, but too much will blow out the seal and cause bigger problems. any suggestions?

I had a huge spinnerbait I got from the BPS catalog back in the early eighties. The head and skirt were in the middle where you tie and an arm and blade came off of the top and a second arm and blade off the bottom. I don't remember who made it. It was difficult to cast, but the fish liked it. I lost it and would like to get another. Anyone familiar with this?

The only reason they say not to unscrew the hook hangers is because those tiny screws are easily lost and can strip out the holes. Put some lock-tite or super glue on the screws when you replace them and they will be fine.
