  1. A ticket to ride.
  2. My wife and I were engaged when I left for "Nam" in "68". That was "our song". 44 years, 3 kids and 7 grandkids later I guess it worked. Yes, that is a tear in the corner of my eye.
  3. The question I have after spending a half an hour of my life reading this post: ( and I don't remember the names) Is person "A" questioning person "B" about catching 300+ DD bass? or did I spend the whole time " missing the point" I did get that it was about not going out with pre conceived ideas about where the fish are or how they could be caught. The mantra of the whole conversation vacillated to a big question mark by the time I was done reading . I do agree, that sometimes they are where they were, and other times they are not. And sometimes they bite like they did and sometimes they don't. But, 100 plus posts about something so obvious is ? 300+ DD bass, Your the Man.
  4. I was fishing Sam Rayburn in Texas a few years ago, and was sitting in the boat waiting for my buddy to get the truck. I had a rod rigged with a senko that had a minor backlash so I picked it out and threw it out onto a 50 ft. wide cement boat landing in about 3 ft. of water. Started to reel it in and had a 4+lb. LM on the other end. Funny thing was that 2 minutes before, a boat was launched and the motor was roaring.
  5. I fish when I want to and when I can. If I only fished when the "tables" told me to, I would fish far less than I do and that wouldn't be good. I never look at the tables, so I have no idea if the fishing is better or worse according to the tables. I just go fishing.
  6. How about "Gadabout Gaddis, the Flying Fisherman" The Linders "Fishing Facts". Jerry Mc Ginnis, the current owner of Bass. Orlando Wilson's show, on for many years. Homer Circle, "The Fisherman". Harold Ensley had a long running radio and TV show on WGN out of Chicago. There were so many local and regional shows that only a state or two could watch (through all the "snow" of early TV) Most were poorly produced but they were fishing shows and I loved them.
  7. Having fished 12 of the 100, #2 ,#4 ,#8 .#12, #17, #22, #29, #39, #47, #52, #62, #74, I think that the only one I would say does not belong on this list is #62, Lake Winnebago. And it's in my back yard. It does have a good LM and SM population, however it is not a top 100 bass lake. We will find out when the Elites show up in the fall for their championship series though. A little bird told me that.
  8. Skunked? I just got back from 15 days of fishing Guntersville. $1800 later, I caught 5 bass. My buddy got his PB, but his total was 7. We had a great guide for two days and we still couldn't catch a fish. The polar vortex got us. 2 days warm: 60 and 3 days cold 45. Two nights warm: 45 and one night 19 and the next 23.Top water temp: 58. Wind: topped out at 35,gusts to 50, most days 10-15 out of the wrong direction for Guntersville. Not complaining, There is still 40" of ice up here and it was great to be fishing, but I think, I would rather have been totally skunked than to catch 5 fish in 15 days. This has to have been the most goofy weather over 15 days I have ever seen. Couldn't get 2-3 days of the same weather. However, Knob Creek and VO and bloody Mary's kept us from suicide. Will go back next year.
  9. All of my rods are mid level St Croix. I have never felt that I was at a disadvantage. I am a 68 year old clutz and would never spent more than $150 for a rod. Plus, the one or two fish I might miss because I don't have a $400 rod are irrelative. A $ 39.00 lightning rod no, A $100 Mojo rod, Yes
  10. You need to put foil under that to protect yourself from gargoyles and zombies and cat fishermen.
  11. I have been using the "O" ring on wackys for a few years. Yes they really work. You can buy an "O" ring tool from Cabelas for about $5.00. Much easier to put them on with the tool and the ring will save a lot of tearing.
  12. All the years I spent chasing that silly ole trout around when I could have been chasing those silly ole brown and green bass.
  13. A PHD in the obscure. And 77 items to add to my specific recall memory. I'm sure some day, someone will ask me a question about one of these facts and I will remember that I saw the answer on 3/28/2014 @ 07.53 pm. on BR. Thank you.
  14. Wow, This has to be the most technical thread in a long time. I didn't understand 90% of it, but read the whole durn thing, hoping that I soon would. I didn't. I will attempt to learn the angle of the dangle and the Malthusian theory before I ever try to read another post like this. BTW, I have 2, 5/1 reels and the rest are 6/1 and I still catch a fish once in a while. Do you think if I bought a 9/1 I could be a better fisherman? I need help.
  15. Nascar2428, This year it isn't the state of Michigan that going to stop you, it's going to be the 24" of ice.
  16. DJman72: do you read what you post. "with out permission"," go so far as to call the cops" on my sorry butt, You have just posted the " #1 dumb post of the year" however, you may get lucky, after all it's only March and there are 9 more months for someone to beat you. Good luck on that.
  17. At "68",I need my sleep. 2oz. of good sippin whiskey works, well maybe 4 oz. once in a while and the night before a good fishin trip maybe 6 oz. and then another touch just because. Like tonight, I've had just a touch or two. Maybe one more before I have that final touch. You see, I'm leaving for a 2 week trip to Guntersville tomorrow. I may have just one more. You see, I'm "68" and I need my sleep. The only time I have a problem with booze is when I run out.
  18. Bass or A$$, nobody rides for free. No rock bass? My favorite worm pecker. Good eagle food too.
  19. I went back and reread the "Ugly green reel" post. That has got to be the most irritating post I have ever read on BR. Sorry brother, it's freaking fishing reel.
  20. Question: do you guys really buy reels based on color? " I used my buddy's Curado last year but could not get past the UGLY green color" I thought green was the new good. Wake me up when black reels are back. I have a bunch of them. Until then I won't fish for fear of upsetting the PC world of correct colors of fishing reels. Is pink O.K.?, I bought my Grand daughter a pink "33".
  21. Just make sure your hand fits the split grip. Put a reel on it and see if it is comfortable. I bought one last year and don't like the way it fits my hand. However, you can get a Premier with a full cork handle for about $20 buck more. I have one and I love it.
  22. This is an easy one for me, I have a 6 year old flip phone. The key word here is "PHONE". I don't need a computer in my pocket. It does have a camera though and I once took a picture on it of my foot. Not on purpose though, It just happened. I kept it, mighty fine foot if I may say so. I have a camera, a computer, and a phone, what else could I possibly need. They just are not all in the same package. I have to tell you though, I'm "68" and no one much cares what I think.
  23. Sorry Mr. Rhino or should I call you Mr. Secretary? In my neck of the woods, our local newspapers carried Ann Landers. My fault, I should have known who Raider was trying to replace. You see, both lady's have been dead for years and were replaced by Pareze Hilton and Joan Rivers.
  24. Every creek that drains into the Mississippi River north of Ill. has a small railroad bridge over it. There are tracks on both sides of the river from pool #15 north.
