From Green Bay: This year to Guntersville in March. Last three years to Ky.lake, year before that, Rayburn in Texas. Tablerock x2, Rayburn 4 other times. Don't mind traveling to fish when there is 3 ft. of ice on our lakes.

Back in the late 80's we were fishing the Madison river in MT. We rented 2 drift boats to fish about 15 miles of river. The rental company would pick us up at 4 pm. When we started our trip (8 am) the temp. was 70. All of us were wearing shorts and wading boots. The morning was great. About 11-12 am, the wind switched to the NW and the temp. started to drop. About, 1 pm, the temp was down to about 50. We still had about 6-7 miles to go and the temp kept dropping. We had quit fishing and just wanted to get down to our take out point. Remember, we had shorts and shirts and a rain jackets. By the time we got down to our pick up point, we were very close to hypothermia. Where we to be picked up, there was no wood for miles. No fire. It was bad, and to make matters worse, the guide was an hour late picking us up. By the time he picked us up we were vey aware that being outdoors can be dangerous. We had good sippin whiskey and a worm cabin to go back too, but that trip was INTERESTING.

I would suggest, that you don't need to go to Canada. Green Bay has far better (larger) smallies. Northern Door Wis. is beautiful and has unbelievable smallie fishing (up to 7 lbs.) Google "Door County Wi." 50 fish days a common in late May and June. Great guides available too. Good luck with your quest. Just an idea. By the way, there are several guides that own resorts in that area.

Is there a " comments" list on his website? Be interesting to hear what other customers have to say about his guiding style. Too many guides today hand you a rod with an easy to use bait like a crank or a spinner bait and then you sit in the back of the boat and pay to watch him fish. Also, don't forget, there is the expected 10-15% tip too so your $350 becomes $385-400. Good Luck ,I hope you get a great guide and have a great day fishing.

Lets see, We have 101 pro anglers in the "elite" series and at any given tourney. 51 finish out of the money. These fisherman are the "best in the business" yet, they all fall short at one time or another. Yet they all give advice. Why don't they all finish in the top 10? This site is 25K strong and between all of us we probably have more fishing time and knowledge than the Bassmasters and the FlW combined. So ask away members, We may not always be right, but dammit, we are willing to offer what we know. Fishing is a lot different in Wisconsin than it is in Fla., But we have members from almost every state and offer their "take" to help each other out. Weed out what you want to, but everyone is trying to help. Opinion is like an a$$ hole, everyone has one, but every one working together helps everyone. Now I'm done ranting.

#1 TR soft plastics, #2 wacky rigged senkos, #3 draggin tubes for smallies on a UP Michigan lake, #4 spinnerbaits. I don't know why, but, I will throw spinnerbaits all day long and I hate throwing cranks. I love topwater (frogs, chuggers, and walk the dog baits), but they don't work as well (up north). I guess because the pike get to them before the bass have a chance. I use drop shot on a few clear lakes but the panfish drive me nuts. I get 8-9 rods out on the deck and go fishing but, the TR worm "thump" is what it's all about for me. Tight lines my brothers of the angle/dangle.

Speedbead: After your post, I went back and looked at them again. I'm sure you are right, When I first saw the pictures, I thought that is not a natural bottom with all those lines.

On pictures 2 and 3, doesn't the bottom look like it had been raked. Notice the uniform grooves in the sand.

Mark, My scotch drinking best friend always shows up with a new one and I have to say, " Sheep Dip " was one of the very best. Very smooth. 1 ice cube and a splash of water, enjoy.

The advantage of a tube is that not only do they imitate craws but have the profile of a baitfish. I start with craw colored tube, but often switch to baitfish color, and instead of dragging the tube, I'll hop it or lift it and let it fall like an injured bait fish. Try some baitfish colored tubes, I think you will be surprised.

Not the same quality as those Lake Erie bass, But last summer I went on a smallie quest to the U.P. of Michigan and in 2 days landed 17 smallies on a small lake between 3 and 4 1/2 lbs. dragging a crawfish tube. Not another boat on the water, eagles and ospreys everywhere. This is a C&R lake but no one fishes it. Also caught 20 LM between 1.5 and 2.5 lbs. on another lake on the same trip. U.P.= Gods country

I bought a Mojo last spring for spinner bait fishing, I love the rod but I just cannot get used to the split grip. It just not fit my hand, give it a try. Not for me

2:00 pm, game sold out, no blackout. Fire in the fireplace (check), Uncle Jack in a glass (check) wings for halftime (check) flannel shirt and pants(check) Large screen TV (check) My Mom didn't raise no dummy. -25 windchill at game time= 80K crazy Packer fans.
