  1. i started on a arkee basic jig .... i still use them ,,, imo for the price there not bad ..... i like the blk and blu .5 oz ..... they sell at 1.50 and catch fish .....
  2. i still say st croix warrenty is seconed to none ....
  3. the main question is hows the cover ,,,, and how big are the bass ...... you can see the cover i fish in the pictures ... the bass around here arnt that big ,,, a 5lber here is a pig .... so i geuss depeneding on what you wanna do ..... i prefer a heavy stick .... also i tend to catch the biggest bass of the year on a frog ..... i watched my brother in-law dump a biggun ,,, he couldnt move the bass a min. later the bass threw the frog .... he was using a med-hev rod .... now he has orderd a 7ft hev fast for this season .... just depeneds how you like to fish i geuss ....
  4. I have a custom on that same blank and paired it with a 50MG, and swapped spools with a deep spool. (since I use XT) I could not be more pleased, with any blank or reel. hey fletch .... i believe i saw a pic of that stick ..... it was sweet split cork and all ...... now i just found out the entire line of st croix legened toureny bass rods are split cork .... this makes me think i need one more slopin frog rod .... id like to have a frog rod rigged with the cane toad and liter braid .... you have made me ask questions that should not be asked lol ;D
  5. infidel ,,, i see where you coming from with the med hev being a better caster ..... however i do dissagree with you ,, not all heavy rods are broom sticks .... the rod i use is a heavy ,,, however my rod was designed to fish frogs ..... its not as stout as the premiere heavy more like a avid heavy ..... the fast tip really gives me effortless precise casting ..... so i geuss im just saying not all heavy rods are the same ,,, just as not all fisherman are the same ..... im never just boming my frogg around ....
  6. i fish them here in wisconsin ,,,,, we olny have the smaller northern strain of bass here ..... they still choke them down .... bty mattlures are a killer bait to toss anywhere ..... if you are tryin the gill you will also want to try the baby bass ...... imo
  7. they are a great company .... all but one of my rods are st croix .... there warrenty is 2nd to none .... ;D
  8. the combo ive been using is very lite ..... the rod i use is the legened tourney bass ( slop and frog ) ..... and the reel i use is daiwa zillion ..... this combo is lite ..... im able to set the hook on those quick takes ....... IMO you be hard press to find a better combo .... ;D
  9. Bait monkey is that you in disguise telling me that I need a new frog rod. LOL i wish i where .... i hear that monkey has quiet the tackle stash ...... ;D
  10. Thanks. the lakes I fish in do not have much slop. I was thinking of just throwing a frog out there near a weedline. If I did, I assume the MXF would be a good one to go with since that will be my general plastics rod. hey lard bass ,, i would at least look into a med hev if you plan on toosin any frogs ..... if your lookin to throw the spro style frog you will need more power to set those oversized hooks ..... if you plan on tossin a horney toad style frog you will still need the power .... i catch most of my big bass on a frogg ..... so i really need a stick i can trust as far as power goes ..... a med rod could do it ,,, however i wouldent feel good using a med rod to toss a frog weather its fast or extra fast ... imo of coarse .....

  12. yes sir thats the one ...... my rod says TBC70hf .... this is a sweet stick .... now i have tryed a few other rods ..... i was using a st croix premier 7ft6 heavy ,,,, too much stick to move you get those fast bites ..... then i switched to the loomis frog rod ,,,, this stick wasnt very crisp and seemed rather heavy and bulky also ..... so last spring i said i may as well try the legened tourney bass ( slop and frog ) .... at this point my bite catch ratio isnt even 50 50 .... i spent the cash picked up the rod and im so glad i did ..... this rod is liter in over all weight vs the other 2 rods i tryed ,,, and so crisp fast and strong .... and i have put this rod to the test ,,, last july i had a 5lber hit the frog and instantly wrap around a peice of drift wood .... when i heaved on the fish i saw a big drift wood come outta the water and stand straight up in the air ..... to my supprise there was a 5lber flapping on the drift wood ,,, so i braught them bolth in ...... thats when you know you have a tough stick ...... \ heres a pic of the slop i fish all late summer . heres a pic of the slop and frog rod ..... ;D
  13. robbie there was a guy on ebay ... that sold the quantam rods at a decent price i wanna say 30 bucks ..... i cant remember his stores name but ill try and find it ...... and the rods arent bad ,,, i had a casting rod ....
  14. well i just call them direct .... then i explane what i need ..... they give me the best options they have i drop the check card number and the rods are in the mail ..... thats how i got my legened tourney bass rods..... and no one around here has them yet .... i even stopped by the local gander mt and sportsmans ,,, nada ..... so i wasnt aware you couldent order them direct i geuss i called my order in .....
  15. hey Black bass .... if your lookin for a frog rod ...... st croix has one that cant be over looked ,,,,, in fact may be the best frog rod on the market ..... the legened tourney bass ( slop & frog ) 7ft heavy fast ..... this rod is the sweetest rod i own ..... after spending a summer using this rod i can say this is the most enjoyable rod to fish with ..... i know the legened tourney bass series is a few more bucks ,,,, but well worth it when it comes to this frogging stick ..... its a crisp fast action rod with plenty of power to yank them bass outta the slop ...... IMO this rod is a must have for the frog fishers ....
  16. Well, you just confirmed what I had thought when I looked at the new rods in the '08 catalog. I quite like the matte carbon finish. It goes well with my older Premier, other Avid, and my IMX. I'm not too big a fan of the pearl gloss finishing. :-/ The only fully finished rods you should be able to order directly from St. Croix are their ice rods. All other rods should not be available from their online store, and can be purchased from a St. Croix retailer. well maybee you cant ,,,, but everone else can .... heck i have 2 new legened tourey bass rods in my closet i just orderd a month ago ....
  17. i use a 6ft8 med xtrafast for top waters ...... if i had to pick a avid for froggin ,,,, it would be the 7ft heavy fast ... now that being said ,,i throw my froggs in the nastest stuff on the lake .... ;D
  18. if you look at my link ..... on the main croix page theres a spot that says whats new .... click on that and you can see the new avids ..... there is a IPC decal next to the st croix ..... sweet lookin sticks ....
  19. you can order the avids direct ...... i believe there web site is : www.stcroixrods.com ,,, this is where i orderd my new legened tourney bass rods ..... ive had the new ltb rods for over a month now ..... the main reason i dont believe your seeing them aroud is because most stores wont order till spring .....
  20. i use the gorrilla set .....
  21. i geuss my 2 favorite choices are cajun red cast or tryline xtra tough ..... now i know xl smoth is sweet line however i prefer cajun red cast over the xl smoth .... i will use the triline xt over the cajun when it comes to cover ,, just depeneds ...... these are my main craning line choices .... ;D
  22. yea even tho you wanna toss smaller baits you will still need a stout line .... i use pline cxx 20 lb ..... and im not in cally im in wisconsin we olny have tiny northern strain bass here ...... ;D
  23. thats a crankin stick .... does it have a sticker on the blank that says crankbaits ????? if not it should ..... thats what id toss anyway ....
  24. hey ghost ..... i too tryed the hybreed ..... didnt like it at all .... now i believe hybreed is a copoly .... i also noticed i didnt like the way my go to pline cxx behaved in cold water ..... the cxx is also a copoly .... id say try a true mono line ,,,,, like a cajun red cast or a tryline xl smooth bolth are easy casting lines and bolth are true monos ..... id stick with the 8lb .....
  25. ive been lookin at skinny bear jigs ..... just for what broke was sayin ... altho not sure skinny bear are hand tied .... they are tied with wire ..... they look like a sweet jig ....
