  1. I don't like the 735 for jigs fishing(I use it for frogs), though some swear by it. I much prefer the DX745.
  2. If you want to stay /w fluorcarbon, yes. Get some good stuff though. The only cheap fluoro i'd recommend is red label but in my experiences red label has terrible abrasion resistance on rocks
  3. The particular type of wakebait you are talking about, i throw on my squarebill rod..dobyns 705cb glass
  4. X2 All rods/reels come inside and in vehicle when leaving ramp. Jigs/hardbaits/terminal tackle /electronics come in due to cost. Plastics and such i leave in. If you want to break a latch for some soft plastics....lol
  5. I'm a man and live and die by the 735
  6. Oh don't you kid yourself big girl! It hurt to write 735, didn't it?
  7. You get what you pay for /w fluoro. If you have zebra muscles there isn't a line on earth that will be abrasion resistant enough. Best i've found as far as fluorocarbon is Tatsu and Shooter but you pay a premium for these. Copoly/Mono, CXX is tough as nails. I personally use 20# shooter for all my pitching/flipping duties unless it's in heavy slop. Then it's 65# braid. I don't use fluorocarbon for its "invisibility". I don't believe it makes that much of an inherent difference when target pitching/flipping or even dragging a jig. I use it for its slack line sensitivity. nothing compares in regards to feel on a slack line. As far as stretch goes, all line stretches. To say fluorocarbon stretches "the same" is senseless and isn't comparing apples to apples. Saying a line like Trilene XL has the same "stretch" as Sunline shooter is laughable.
  8. The champ 704/705/734, assuming you are staying in the champ line, will have a "slower" tip than the DX series. I.E, if you think of the DX as XF, then the Champ is a Fast, if that makes sense. I will echo what others have said and recommend the DX744 for 1/4oz and 3/8oz jigs. I own 2x DX745's and use them for3/8-3/4 jigs and 5/16oz+ trigs or 1/4oz /w a heavier beaver trailer. It's a really special rod.I personally don't like the 744 and got rid of it. If I'm throwing a 1/4oz trig or a 1/4oz finesse jig, it's almost never in cover or at least heavy cover and I use the DX743. If you liked the 745, but want something "lighter" I'd get the Champ 734(Don't you dare let GirlyManGrantMan persuade you to get the 704. He fishes with a purse ) . It's not going to be as crisp as the DX745 but it still isn't a slouch. I use the 734 for spinnerbaits and chatterbaits. I've even thrown weightless senkos with no issue on it. The 4 power is perfect for 1/4oz-3/8oz baits. I do not like anything 1/2oz on the 4 power rods though unless its a carolina rig. I will tell you, you will notice the rod being "slower" and if that bothers you, don't get it. It's by no means a Mod-Fast action but its slower than a DX though not by much. The 735 has a unique XF tip. It's "capable" of throwing a 1/4oz jig but I wouldn't have fun doing it. The 735 has a lot of power once it gets past the tip. 3/8oz-1/2oz jigs are right in its wheel house. Plus the 735 is my favorite frog rod.
  9. I understand the resentment and realize you put a lot of effort in to your review. With that said, this post was clearly just a "sponsor plug". It's an advertisement asking if we've tried this new and great superline that, if I'm wrong I apologize, isn't even available to purchase.... Also, I may be looking at this wrong, but RW asked a couple days ago where to purchase the line but according to his review he's been using it for a few weeks now..
  10. Unless I'm missing something....according to your review you're already using it for a few weeks now but asked where to buy it 2 days ago...? Tell us about it and its price tag. http://www.bassresource.com/fishing_lures/Pinnacle-Producer-LTE-review.html
  11. So it's out but not available for purchase..?
  12. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/142039-st-croix-triumph-x/?hl=triumph
  13. Once you get a chance to use it, i'd like to hear your thoughts on it. I really like their squarebills.
  14. It's football jig season on the river for me right now and I would love to have a football head that doesn't get caught up on all the river wingdams and main channel nook and crannys. If you can solve that, you win in my book.
  15. Ive already suggested clean and flush the bearings earlier in the post.. Im only chiming in again because somebody with the glass mojo is suggesting(or even for some reason comparing) the graphite MHM crankbait rod is "too stiff" to throw a 3/8oz lipless crankbait or 1.5 which is asinine.
  16. That is literally the first time I've ever heard of the St. Croix MHM being referenced as a "stiff" rod... Unless you are casting inside a garage or throwing your bait at a wall, there is absolutely not one instance a 3/8oz lipless crankbait cannot be thrown a "country mile" on the mojo MHM. (same goes for a kvd 1.5) The rod loads just fine into the blank to cast those baits.
  17. Have either of you actually use the 7' MHM..... The rod handles 3/8oz squarebills (a 1.5) with absolute ease...not to mention a 3/8 oz lipless crankbait,.... I also thought both the mojo and LTB 7'MHM were terrible rods for the kvd/lc 2,5..
  18. Yeah go check out a reel that isn't even available yet.... As per the question, most, if not all of the reels in that price range have some sort of following in one way or another. There isn't a "best" in that price range. It's essentially personal preference and nit picking in the $200+ range. They will all perform well. Get the one that palms the best. Nothing worse than using a reel that you want to like but just can't get used to it's frame.
  19. Great popper. I still prefer the Yellow magic over the PopMax though.
  20. Dobyns Savy 735c Daiwa Tatula (can be found for 100$ or less) That right there is less than 300$ and is one amazing frog set up.
  21. I love using wakebaits over shallow rock and grass. My favorite is the manns baby -1 and LC RC wake Spook and wakebaits are two very different baits.
  22. I sold the particular one I mentioned brand new for 150. It was an awesome cranking rod but the sk2 reel seat is the worst real seat ever invented.
  23. If the extent of your casting reel experience is having the brakes set to the point where the lure barely falls from your rod tip and you aren't thumbing the spool during a portion of the cast(i.e you will have to stop the spool /w your thumb before it hits the water and feather it during a portion of the cast), then you are ( i don't mean any offense here) still a beginner using a casting reel. Albeit you have figured out the very basics of how to cast, there is so much more to make things more efficient /w the brake settings. Flush the bearings and do it right. My shimanos are set on 1 brake and on occasions 2 /w a very loose spool. with that particular rod you are using and a 3/8oz lipless crank (again, no offense) if you aren't able to absolutely bomb that bait into the the proverbial next county, the issue is you. Clean the bearings and learn to use less brakes for distance. As for the buzzbaits, bladed baits create a lot of wind resistance which will diminish a lot of distance when casting overhead or trying to "huck" it out there. cast side armed and lower. And don't do this
  24. I don't believe it's out. Just another site sponsor plug I'm guessing.
  25. I used to have and I think sold to a member of this site the 7'MHM LTW (Same specs as the Eyecon). When I asked the St. Croix rep why it was rated to 3oz, I was told it's so people wouldn't be afraid to use a 3oz trolling weight when bottom bouncing for walleye. This rod cannot and will not even get close to be able to cast anything over 1oz(let alone 3oz..). It fishes EXACTLY the same as the mojo 7'MHM rated 3/8oz-1oz
