Air temp Vs. Water Temp
This may be a redundant question but does air temperature have any effect on water temperature? For instance, it is the middle of December and here it's been staying between the 30s and 40s and we've had a couple of 50 degree days and a few, rare 60 degree days. What would be the water temps for certain days with these temperatures? And what techniques, locations, or presentations should I use? Or should I just stay home? Lol! Any help will be appreciated. 8-)

I am a member of the NAFC also, so I would go with their magazine as well. They've got some good stuff.

Christmas is coming soon.............
I've got a lot of tackle to begin with and I really don't need much. But me and my family drew names to see who were are going to buy for (besides everyone buying for everyone and spending a whole lot of money), and my brother in law drew me, and the limit is $50 (no more), so I told him a few tackle things, maybe a new rod/reel combo or stuff like that. And then my parents might buy me a cd player for my truck. It came standard with an am/fm radio and I have a lot of music cds that I'd like to listen to as I am commuting back and forth to college everyday. So possibly a new cd player for my truck and a few baits or a rod and reel combo this year.

Fall pond fishing....how is it?
Try wacky rigging a zoom finesse worm or senko. It will fall slowly which bass like that in the winter and it falls right in front of their faces no matter where they are on the water column. It also prevents you from getting stuck on the bottom. Since it is muddy, white colored worms or natural colors would work good. I would also try to slow roll a spinnerbait, use a chatterbait (as suggested) or go with a shallow diving crankbait. JMO

Three deer (joke)
There were three deer walking through the woods. One was the alpha buck, who was a monsterous 20 pointer! He was the biggest of his herd and he had many battle scars to boot. Beside him stood the mega buck, who was a little smaller than the alpha buck and had 12 points. He too had battle scars but not as many as the alpha buck. Then beside him was a scrawny button buck, who feared for his life anytime he got near another buck. The three were walking down a path to a corn field full of does. It was the middle of the rut and they were ready to get some. The alpha buck spoke up to the other two, "Look at me...I am the biggest buck of all the land and I know that if I even walk down there, the does will fight over me!" The mega buck chuckled and said, "Yeah, you get all the fat, ugly does and I get all the hot, sexy does who love to have a real buck, because they know, once you go mega buck you never go back!" The two big bucks cracked up at each other and started to pick on each other. The little button head just lowered his ears and tucked his tail and went and layed down by a cedar with a sad look. The other two were worried and curious and they asked him what was wrong? "You guys are so big and strong, you always get all the does. I always get picked on and beat up by the does..." The alpha buck felt sorry for the little button head and suggested that the button head fight another buck to show the does how tough he is. The button buck agreed. When they walked into the field the does swarmed around the alpha buck and the mega buck. The little button buck stood there upset until a monster buck came crashing through the woods, he was even bigger than the alpha buck! The little button head got all energetic and started to rattle bushes with his head, stomping his foot and snorting. All the does were intimitaded, but also laughing because they'd enjoy seeing the button head get crushed by the big buck. The alpha buck then got worried and told the button head that it wasn't a good idea! That he should quit before he gets hurt! "ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? IF I FIGHT THAT BUCK HE WILL MURDER ME! I AM JUST MAKING SURE HE KNOWS THAT I AM A BUCK!" ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Jon boat modifications
Thanks. I just heard from my folks that there is some left over carpet from building my grandparents house. So that may work. And like you, I am using this boat temporarily until I graduate college and get a better paying job and can afford a decent boat. I am indecisive about the plug though. Because that would be a possible leak spot (if not done correctly) and I am not quite a handy-type person lol. The plywood and carpet I can do. But Idk about the plug... God bless 8-)

Ideas for modifications
Well first off welcome to the board! I don't know much about modifications (from my thread I am about to modify my boat as well). But I do know you can purchase the carpeting from Cabelas or bass proshops as well as the decals. You can also find decals probably at any hardware store. The carpeting at cabela's is a marine series. I wish you luck and I hope some people are more help than I am lol! ;D God bless

Jon boat modifications
Few other questions I have: 1.) Should I connect the carpet into one length over the plywood? or should I section the carpet to each individual plywood piece? 2.) Should I use marine carpet (like at cabelas) or can I get away with carpet bought at Lowe's or Home Depot? 3.) Should I add a drainage plug at the back? That way any water that is under the plywood can be removed by draining, and if so how would I go about doing so? (I am a rookie when it comes to boat modifications lol) 4.) I bought some new seats from cabelas. They are high backed and they are in the colors of Green/Tan. Would it be a cool idea to pain the entire boat green and then have the tan stripe down the side or should I leave the boat as is? Pkschul that's a nice looking boat! I gurantee you won't be dissappointed with that one (unless it has holes, etc.)

Beowulf
I read the story in 11th grade, it's got a pretty good plot. Can't wait to see the movie. 300 was alright, but you can definately see the computer graphics. I would like to look like those guys did on 300 when I turn 30-40 years old lol! I got a lot of working out to do then lol! ;D And she is going to be the best part of the movie!!!

Jon boat modifications
yeah true...if I add the 3/4" board it will make it heavy lol. But also you don't want it too thin that it rots out underneath you... And I know I can get carpet from Cabelas. Thanks LBH! I will post pictures when I do it. I will start possibly this weekend. God bless 8-)

Jon boat modifications
Believe it or not it is a 1950 model Alumacraft jon. I cleaned it out that day in the pictures (last Feb.; you can see the bucket of water and rag beside it in the picture) I got it in Waynesboro, Va for $375 and it came with the trolling motor. It is a nice boat, but I would like to make it better. I found a brand new 50# thruster (transom mounted) on Bass Pro Shops for $230. So I might order that one. What kind of plywood should I use? I've got 1/2" and 3/4" plywood that my parents are never going to use (I need to replace the transom anyway), will that work? or should I get a marine grade?

Southeast offseason (Va)
1.) Be playing my "Rapala Pro Fishing" for x-box :'( 2.) On decent days I may head out to the lake 3.) Pour some more of my plastic worms (I already got my order in from Barlow's, I got more plastic and some new colors ) 4.) Learn different strategies that I can apply to next year (Deep cover/structure) that's on my 2008 fishing goals. 5.) Probably watch tv fishing shows and be taunted... :'( :'( 6.) Post on BR. 7.) And search for a new (better) boat, considering all I have is a 12' V hull 1950 Alumacraft with no trailer and a 27# thrust trolling motor. (I would like at least a 14' jon boat, decked out with compartments and a trailer with a bow mounted 40# at least trolling motor and possibly a 9.9 hp engine...) And that's going to be my winter...

You might be a hardcore bass fisherman if.......
* Your favorite song since you were a year old was The Knitty Gritty Dirt Band's "You and me go fishing in the dark" (It was mine...) * You fish more than you spend time with your wife or girlfriend ("Well I'm going to miss her...") * All your hats are either from B.A.S.S organization, or contain your favorite or so called "Lucky" baits * You dream every night of being in the middle of the lake fishing in weeds, timber and cover and land a biggun. (I do EVERY NIGHT!) * Your signature contains a famous quote from a professional bass fisherman (Check it out!)

Dropping Water Temps
Yeah that kinda got my curiosity. Usually cold temps means the bass are lethargic and won't move very much to feed. I never would have guessed that they would chase a fast moving bait... I am sure that early fall would be a good time for them to chase, once the temps are cooler but not when the temps are winter cold...

Jon boat modifications
Yeah that's what I was thinking as being a issue, having to do it all. What would I use to secure the plywood onto the bottom (glue, screws, etc.)? The boat is made out of a heavy duty aluminum.
