  1. Fish do hibernate to the depths for the winter. But they do not migrate to water greater than 50 feet most of the time. The reason is lack of oxygen. Bass usually find a good depth that contains ample oxygen while at the same time has a slightly warmer temperature than the surface water. In the late fall, bodies of water do what we call the "Fall Turnover" which in that case the cool water from the depths during the summer flip up to the surface and the semi-warmer water is in the depths. This is why bass are found deeper in the water column during the winter. Generally you will find bass in the 20-40 foot range but that's all. If they go deeper (depending on the lake), chances are they will not have ample oxygen to survive. To catch these bass in deep water the best techniques are slow, small bait presentations. Search deep water humps, structure/cover and holes. If you find bass try different techniques to catch them. Remember, that in the late fall/winter the bass' metabolism slows down with the colder temperatures and therefore they aren't as active (won't chase fast moving baits). So slow presentations will work best (Carolina rig, drop shot rig, texas rig, florida rig, jigs, etc.) Good luck! 8-)
  2. Hey all I was wondering who all's a member of the NAFC? I signed up to be a member and got my first issue. I recieved the free gift of the filet kit but not the bobbers. Anyone else a member and if so what are your experiences (do you trust them? like them? or are they a waste of money?) Thanks!
  3. I believe in a possibility. There's still animals that scientists are discovering still and I wouldn't doubt that "Bigfoot" is another creature that we have yet to discover. The field is called "Crypto-zoology" for those who don't know lol. As far as creatures such as Werewolves, etc. I think that's redundant. The only chance to get a hybrid of a man and wolf/dog is inbreeding, and I don't think anyone in their right mind would want to "mate" with a wolf or dog...and even if they did, chances are the cross-breeding traits would be rejected by the offspring. God bless 8-)
  4. Many inexplicable events happen to everyone but we cannot assume it is a "Ghost" or of "Supernatural Nature". Look for another logical reason for what happened. If you are left in the end with no possible explaination then you can assume it is of Unknown origin. I've had unexplained events happen to me and my mother in our houses but it's nothing that we can't come up with a logical explaination for. For my own personal reasons I will keep those stories to myself lol. Try not to jump to conclusions. A good idea to do would be to look up information on your property/home and if any major events happened in your location (deaths, fires, disasters, etc.) then maybe you can get a possible explaination. My father is a big fanatic of "ghosts are not real" and every time I try to bring up the subject he gets p'd off, so I've learned to just keep these things to myself. Good luck!
  5. It's like the pros say.."If you don't get snagged, your not fishing in a very good spot"
  6. Here's our "rat dog" too!!! and here's my dad's yellow beagle. and as for my best friend... I will always remember my beagle Little Bit...she was the sweetist, loving dog you could ever want. I miss her sooo much!!! She was a pretty dog too! R.I.P Little bit! (2000-2007)
  7. I too am curious about this club. I joined just to try it out and see what all I get. The moment they quit sending me things or whatever, I will cancel it. However it's been about a week and they haven't responded yet... I talked with my teacher/OCHS Angler team leader, and she says that the club is basically out for your money, but Idk, $1 a month doesn't seem too bad. I just hope they are true to word about all the benefits they are advertizing. I will know when I get a reply... God bless 8-)
  8. you still got me beat...4.0 (no pix)
  9. I was in 7th grade when it happened. I remember as soon as I got home my good buddy David Rich told me about it and I quickly turned on the news to find it to be true. My mom was working for UPS and was delivering to the Spotsylvania Mall, she was scared. God bless all those souls who were lost on that tragic day, and god bless the families that had to deal with the crisis of loosing their loved ones! And last but not least God bless the USA
  10. I like a buzz-bait every now and then, more than likely I tie on a rebel-pop-r or a Rapala Skitter Pop. If it is really thick weeds or vegetation I die on either a Ribbit Frog or work a weighless, texas worm over the weeds and pick pockets to work it in. For you, since you noticed some frog carcasses, I would try throwing a frog (plastic) and work it on top. Just twitch it every now and then to get the legs kicking, and HOLD ON! Good luck! 8-)
  11. You can catch bass with almost anything but I wouldn't even touch that stupid looking thing never mind fish with it! Lol don't get me wrong I wouldn't want to tie it on either! I'd be the laughing stock of the entire fishing world lol!
  12. You might want to rethink that statement. Some "names" make a statement by delivering a high quality product that you can depend on. http://www.cavitronlures.com/ You are absolutely right RW, but what I also do is look at the composition of the lure. I like spinner-baits and buzz-baits to be made out of stainless steel wire, one that is both flexible and dependable. The "cheap" brands are made out of a real easily bent metal. I agree with you though. What I was saying was I don't stick myself to a certain brand. I try out different brands and stick to the types that work for me and look promising.
  13. Good to hear your ok Catt, but here's another (wouldn't say close call but more of an incident). My truck needed its oil changed bad so I got my bro to help me out. My truck sat really low to the gravel where we were changing the oil. We tried to put it up on ramps but everytime I hit the gas to get it up the ramp, my truck would just spin tires in the gravel (it's a 2wd). Anyway, we got working on the truck without the ramps and it was really close to the ground. I crawled under the truck on my back and so did my bro. I was watching what he was doing (he was teaching me...never knew how to change oil lol) and when it was all done it was time to scoot out. But when I went to scoot out my nose almost touched the underside of my truck and I felt very closter-phobic. I went into a quick panic and wanted to get out from under the truck at any cause. And I did this by reaching up under the truck to push myself out, and when I did I put my right hand on the exhaust pipe to push off! :o :o :o :o Must I say I got a pretty bad burn from that!!! It happened a week ago (a week ago tomorrow), and I am still feeling the sting. Right under my thumb is tender and I had a blister about a half an inch long by a quarter of an inch wide. And right below it I have another blister that's 1/4 inch X 1/4 inch. The rest of my palm just recieved a 1st degree burn and it has healed. But those two spots got a nice 2nd degree burn. Lesson learnt: Never touch nothing underneath the truck!!! ;D : Despite me pushing off for no more than 1 second, I recieved a bad enough burn to last one whole week. It is difficult to grasp a pencil without feeling a sting, but I basically suck it up and grasp it and write. Holding a pole is the same deal, when the stock touches that part it stings, but I say to myself, "When I catch a bass, it is worth it!".
  14. looking at the length of the bass compared to your torso, and depending on your height, I'd say the bass looks to be 13-16" long, roughly 3-3.5 pounds. Maybe the reason why the bass looks smaller than most of your 2.5ers is maybe because you are holding the bass close to you and not out towards the camera. JMO.
  15. For the early fall any speed will work, because as the water temps cool off and get back down into the 60s and 70s that's when the bass are more active rather then the 70s and 80s temps of the summer. In the late fall though I would reccomend slow retrieves. In the fall I enjoy slinging topwaters, and spinner-baits as well as worms, crank-baits (lipped and lipless) and jerk-baits. Good luck! 8-)
  16. Personally I don't buy the lure by brand. I buy a lure depending on whether or not I will have confidence in that lure and if that lure will work for a situation I will be facing or not...(and the price lol!) I have buzzbaits of all kinds of brands. But my favorite colors are black/white, black/blue, White, Charteruse, and White with red.
  17. nice bass... and to think my PB is only 4 pounds :'( :'( :'( :-/ :-X
  18. May not be a weird lure after all... bats swoop down over bodies of water to eat insects all the time (they do it at my pond), I wouldn't doubt a hungry enough largemouth bass would jump out of the water to grab a bat or cicada to eat. Matter of fact, down at my pond, there's constantly bass jumping out to grab 3" long dragon flies. JMO...
  19. Another one of my favorites, and is one I can relate to: "I don't suffer from laziness! I enjoy every minute of it!"
  20. ;D ;D ;D ;D Good one LBH! Jimzee79, I also liked that one! lol!!! Another quote: It's a camoflauge shirt and on the front it says, "Hah! Now you can't see me!"
  21. How many of you like certain shirts that say funny things or have images that you enjoy? I would like to hear what everyone's favorite shirt sayings or images are... just to share I will post some of my favorites: 1) "I'm strange, maybe even crazy, but there's never a dull moment!" 2) "If my music is too loud, your too old!" 3) "I've just kidnapped myself, give me $100 or you will never see me again!" Favorite fishing shirt quotes: 1) "Don't be a dum bass" 2) "Shut up and fish!" 3) "I've got a largemouth at home, and sometimes she lets me go fishing"
  22. "3. I live in my own little world but it's OK, everyone >>>>knows me >>>>here. " I can relate to that one! ;D ;D ;D It reminds me of my shirt that says "I'm strange, maybe even crazy, but there's never a dull moment!"

Most of the time for deeper water, the bass are suspended (in the thermocline or munching on baitfish). I would suggest a jigging spoon, drop shot rig, c-rig, t-rig, deep diving crankbaits or jerkbaits, or any other method to get you in the 'strike zone'! Good luck! 8-)
