Dam Fishing
As you guys may know I fish a lot in Lake Orange and Lake Anna, etc. I took my mom out on Lake Orange this past Sunday and we fished around to pass time. We fished the banks with no luck and decided to head deeper (since it is still summer). It was sunset when we got to the dam and we stayed deep and fished shallow on the dam and worked our texas rigged worms deeper. My mom was reeling her worm in when a bass struck 5 feet from the boat! It was easily a 3 pounder, it jumped out of the water and then took a nose dive and then snapped the line. I was looking on my Eagle Fishmark sonar and I noticed the depth of 24 feet. In a situation like this what lure(s) would work best? I was thinking about using a drop shot rig, considering there is tons of suspended baitfish and even some bass were suspended (that's how she got the hit). But what other options would anyone suggest? I am not much of a deep water angler, but if I want to secure my success of catching big bass, I need to work on deeper portions. Thanks for any info! 8-)

College
Thanks Sam, that is great advice. I took the placement test at the beginning of my term and they made my schedule, etc. based on my scores. I am currently in Math 03, English 111, Biology 101, ITE 115 (computer class), and in October I will be taking SDV (which is a Student Development class; it was a reccomendation...) VSU is right here in Charlottesville which is about 30 minutes to an hour away from home. I might attend VSU. I've got another year (besides this one) to decide about a 4 year college and I have time to change my goals, etc. I will cross that bridge when I get there! God bless 8-)

College
I am starting off with a community college and then working my way up to a 4 year college. I am currently attending Germanna Community College here in Va. I may transfer to VCU or VSU, haven't decided yet. As far as a major and a minor I think I will go along with minoring in Marketing and Majoring in Computer Tech. or Computer Science...yes, yes I know, I will be a computer geek ;D I enjoy college so far, granted I am limited to the many things I can do (ie: too young to drink, etc. lol!) I appreciate everyone's support! FBK and everyone I wish you all best of luck with your futures! God bless all!

College
I got what you're saying Jim ;D I won't loose that head until I am married ;D ;D ;D ;D 8-) Russ, thanks! And I agree, big step for my future right here. I will surely balance school work with fishing, most of the time I think fishing may win lol! ;D God bless 8-)

Inflatable boats....just got one....help
I'd say the downside to an inflatable would be the wind. Getting blown all over the place and making control hard is going to loose fishing time. Another thing is be careful with it, a simple hole or scratch could ruin the entire thing and you are boatless. I've never had any experiences with inflatables but I am sure those two things are to watch... Wind and Tear Good luck 8-)

A little time on the water
Well since the site has been going through it's productive changes (thanks Glenn!) me and my friend from Florida has been tearin' the bass up! We've been out twice and caught fish every time. The first time was my friends turn to catch a decent bass. We went to Sturgeon Creek on Lake Anna and fished around the docks, he caught a 12" and I caught a dink here are pix. 12" Dink The next time we went to Lake Orange and I caught two. One was 14" and the other was 11" the only bad thing was I forgot the camera in the truck and I couldn't take pictures until after, but out on the water my battery that was attached to my livewell unit died and the livewell wasn't operating. So I opened the lid and tried to fix it and the 14" did an acrobatic leap and all I seen was his tail waving "Bye" to me. Then the battery to my trolling motor lost power so we headed on back with the 11", here he is! We will be heading out again soon though. Just need to get those batteries charged lol!!! ;D

Site is slow - NOT! :)
Kudos to you Glenn! What would we do without ya!?

Catching Grass Carp
Grass carp are only recommended in areas or ponds that have excessive weed or grass growth. Like the others say they are a serious threat and should be avoided. But if you are interested in catching and releasing them, canned corn is another option. Just take a nice size hook and thread on a few pieces of soft, canned corn and they will eat it. Good luck!

My space.com
Hey M_M, A few topics reguarding *** have been posted. I know they aren't visable because they are outdated, but there are quite a few including one I made in this forum. I don't mean to hijack the thread or cause anything, it's just a heads up

Portable Sonar
No prob! The order won't come in until sometime next week. I just ordered it today. But when it comes in I will be sure to give you a heads up. As soon as I get it a friend and me are going to hit the pond and attach it to our canoe, and then ride around and see how it works. If it picks up good detail or has any flaw I will be sure to give you every insight! It seemed like a real nice unit, I read the reviews and the information and for me, it's perfect! god bless 8-)

Portable Sonar
Hey Jason, I just placed an order to cabela's this morning, I am getting their portable Eagle FishMark 480 Soft Pack for $249.00. With shipping and handling it comes out to $264.94. I've read great reviews from it on the site and it has a rating of 4.7/5 from 6 reviews. It is exactly what I want with my 12' V hull Alumcraft jon boat. It has a suction cup transducer, a clear 480X480 film, supertwist 5" diagonal screen display. You can read the rest on the site itself... http://cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0017744016586a&type=product&cmCat=search&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&QueryText=portable+sonars&N=4887&Ntk=Products&Ntx=mode+matchall&Nty=1&Ntt=portable+sonars&noImage=0 I've read reviews for the fishing buddy thing, and personally it doesn't seem dependable. Just keep looking bud! You'll find something you like!

Fish sonar question
Hey all, I was wondering. Some of you know about my 12' V hull jon boat. I was thinking of getting a fish finder/sonar for it. I've looked at different portable ones and I would like some feedback. Of course my boat isn't decked out so it's open hulled. There's no way to install a trolling motor mounted fish finder. These were my two sonars I was thinking about getting... Sonar 1: http://cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0045699018988a&type=product&cmCat=search&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&QueryText=portable+fish+finders&N=4887&Ntk=Products&Ntx=mode+matchall&Nty=1&Ntt=portable+fish+finders&noImage=0 Sonar 2: http://cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0012236018199a&type=product&cmCat=search&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&QueryText=Fish+buddy&N=4887&Ntk=Products&Ntx=mode+matchall&Nty=1&Ntt=Fish+buddy&noImage=0 I would like to hear what you guys think. Should I buy either one of these (and which one should I get?) or should I get something else? (suggest it/show it) Thanks

Before I Die I Want To.....
To do with fishing: 1.) Teach my nephews, nieces how to fish, as well as my son and daughter when I get them ;D 2.) To catch a bass bigger than 7 pounds. 3.) To be able to pass down all my fishing equipment to my son and daughter. 4.) Get a wife that loves fishing as much as I do! ;D 8-) : To do with life: 1.) Git 'r Done at least once! ;D ;D ;D ;D 2.) Go to another foreign country (never been!) 3.) Kill a bear (on a bear hunt) 4.) Get married! 5.) Meet Metallica 6.) There's just so many things to do before I DIE! ;D > The way I want to die, is by doing something that will make me happy in the end, like doing something I like and getting a heart attack. Catching a 15 pound lunker would do it! ;D ;D There's also other things that will give me a heart attack that I will like! "Your my boy blue!" ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Anti-Angling Website
I was beginning to think 'I am sure they don't get very many members' ;D I guess those people are also against nature's way of getting fish (bears, eagles, etc.). People are hard headded sometimes :

These violations must STOP!
Kinda reminds me of what I did to a poor girl in the restaurant. Me and my family went out to eat at a local restaurant. And we had a B-E-A-utiful waitress. My brother did the same to another girl, but anyway, when she came by and asked if we needed anything else (drinks, sauce, etc.) I said "Yeah, I'd like to have your number". Once she heard that, her face got all red, and she walked away smiling to herself with her hand over her face. ;D ;D ;D ;D I embarrassed that poor girl! ;D ;D ;D She wasn't but maybe 3 years older than me. My parents got a good kick out of it and so did I. Needless to say I didn't get the number.... > :'( :'( :'( :-/ ;D ;D ;D ;D

Another reason on why this forum is great.
oops...I posted that in a wrong way. what I meant was arguments can really teach you something. It tells you what the other people (or persons) in the arguments are backing up and what they think or believe in. Debates are fun is what I really meant. We use to have debates in school in like science class, one debate we had was in Environmental Science and we were debating on wether car manufacturers should install catalytic converterers (sp?) to reduce air pollution or not. Me and half of the class were for it while the other half was against it (argued that we don't need them). It was a fun little experiment. It ended in a stalemate. Because their strongest point was that the converterers would cost money, time and energy, and ours was it was better to spend the money to install the converterers rather than pay for proper disposal of waste to reduce air pollution. It was a fun debate and it ended with interesting results.

Walmart 1$ spinnerbaits
Reguardless if you catch a bass on a branded spinner-bait or a cheap $1 one, you still need to make sure the shaft is straight. Even a big bass will knock the shaft out of line. Otherwise you will find that your spinner-bait is tracking either to the left or right. God bless 8-)

Another reason on why this forum is great.
Your absolutely right. that LBH fella is a trouble maker. I think we should kill him and eat him. Not much of meal but it just might teach him a lesson!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Burley, you are right. Sometimes arguing is fun, but a lot of times it can end with feelings hurt, etc. This isn't the case with me though. I am as happy as a pig in mud! ;D ;D ;D

ethical Grass cutters!
instead of Davy Jones' riding in a pirate ship, he would be riding around in a lawn mower dressed up and painted up as a pirate ship ;D

Another reason on why this forum is great.
I think the topic got the better of everyone. But I agree. I've been on forums where many things have gotten out of hand and in result many people were banned. Hookemdown, it wasn't just you who was rather aggressive. I think after LBH's post everyone followed along and in the end I was being agressively attacked by everyone. I respect nature and I love creatures, but all that argument, the accusations, the attacks were all just for one single little creature. I mean yeah I am sure he would have made a big impact on the environment, but I can gurantee you that he isn't the only one out there. But I do agree indeed, I wish the best for everyone, and hopefully we can put this behind us and continue the legacy of the greatest bass fishing forum there could ever be!! 8-) What do you say everyone?
