  1. i use eagle claw weedless 2/0....i just picked up some gammy's but havent tried them yet i personally think 2/0 is the best & wide gap isnt really necessary
  2. symetre all the way!!!!! i have one and its the best spinning reel ive ever owned... roadwarrior may be right about the stradic for $40 more.......im sure its sweet , but i dont own one so i cant comment on it
  3. im doing the same thing this year.... tops on my list are a pair of solar bat sunglasses & a bunch of reel covers... ill have some lures on the list too..... bass fisherman are so easy to shop for, arent we
  4. i round up all the trees in my neighborhood every year & i use cinderblocks or a bucket & concrete to weigh them down.... I DO let the needles fall off completely before dropping them in because christmas trees are sprayed with a chemical to keep them fresh & green longer.that cant be good for atracting fish or the enviroment...if youve ever thrown a tree onto a fire, you know there sprayed with something the way they go up in flames.....
  5. whats your address again???? ;D whens the next time your home will be unoccupied? ;D just kiddin i think you have a point of documenting things ..even if you had a house fire or flood it would be helpful
  6. i have 2 bionic blade rods & would recommend them to anyone i bought a rick clunn baitcaster when they first came out & was dissapointed....(it felt cheap & broke in 3 months) to honestly answer your question... the rods are good but, NO i dont think the reels stack up
  7. i just bought an avid rod online....i am extremely happy but i did have the same concern as you(not handling it before you buy) i dont think you could possibly be dissapointed with this rod....st. croix makes a beautiful rod that feels great in your hand AND there made in the u.s.a. this rod exceeded my expectations in many ways & i have no regrets on the choice fyi: i bought mine from reeds sporting goods since a few guys from the site recommended them their price is right on & they ship for free http://www.reedssports.com/main.taf?cat=1888
  8. i own 2 bionic blades & highly recommend them...but i think the extreme rods have better features & there on sale.... i think the bait monkey has grabbed his next victim!!! ;D ;D
  9. i just purchased a viento & its nothing to worry about...the knob is tight enough that you have to use your thumb or fingertip to click it from 1 setting to the next...it doesnt just spin loosely around. just go for it..the baitmonkey is calling!!!!!!!
  10. ive got some cheapo $10 bass pro shop polarized sunglasses, but they fit like crap & id like to have something half-way decent....id like something polarized with interchangeble lenses...i seem to prefer amber lenses because i have a harder time seeing with dark ones but is there a good all around lens color thats (in the middle)?
  11. DO FISHING GLASSES NEED TO BE POLARIZED TO BE EFFECTIVE? MAYBE GIVE ME SOME SUGGESTIONS ON WHAT YOU USE & LIKE THANKS
  12. well i got my st.croix avid rod in the mail today & it is a piece of work.... i matched it with a daiwa viento reel & all i can say is WOW i now know that their IS a difference in quality when you spend the extra cash on equipment... i just wanted to thank everyone who helped me with great advice & opinions on what to look for.... i cant wait to hit the water with this setup.......... thanks again guys
  13. this is a very interesting thread...i had no idea what a spiral wrap was, so i looked it up & it seems very logical...i wonder why the big rod manufacturers dont have these readily available or mass marketed? i found this link if anyones interested: http://www.acidrod.com/acidrods.html
  14. raul is right on the money.... a cinderblock works o.k, but ive done it with a bucket & cement....if you spray the bucket with wd40 the cement will slip right out of the bucket when its dry....it makes it a hell of a lot easier to handle when your dropping it in.
  15. THATS A NICE PINE BARRENS PICKEREL!!!!!
  16. no i didnt return for repair dodgeguy.... i actually bought it from a tackle shop in my area that gives you a discount for buying bass pro items thru them so i wasnt sure if i could....it broke at the end of the season & i just put it away...im not saying they are JUNK, im just saying I wouldnt buy another one...ive owned a lot of reels in the past & never had one break for no reason......
  17. i bought one of the original grey models & it lasted 3 months before the thumb bar broke....maybe the newer models are made better...but i wouldnt take my chances on another one.
  18. THANKS FOR ALL THE INPUT GUYS... I ORDERED A ST.CROIX AVID TODAY FROM REEDS.....I KNOW IT WILL BE THE RIGHT CHOICE... THANKS AGAIN
  19. might as well use a 9mm & a rocket launcher to blast the fish into your boat ;D roland martin has no shame......that thing makes the helicopter lure look legit
  20. hey guys, iwas reasding in a previous post that st.croix ratings are powered up...so is a med/heavy what i think of a med/heavy or should i go with the med action? i just want to make sure that the nicest rod i ever bought is going to be right
  21. i found this on reeds website http://www.reedssports.com/Product.taf?_function=detail&_ID=669 NOW...would you get THIS ROD or the daiwa since shipping is free from reeds its only $40 more than the daiwa from bass pro(after shipping the daiwa is like $130)
  22. okay heres the deal, i just picked up a diawa viento reel & i need a rod to go with it..i will be using this setup for jigs & plastics...... im favoring this: http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.TextId?hvarTextId=61232&hvarDept=100&hvarEvent=&hvarClassCode=2&hvarSubCode=6&hvarTarget=browse but ive heard good things about the st.croix: http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.TextId?hvarTextId=74388&hvarDept=100&hvarEvent=&hvarClassCode=2&hvarSubCode=6&hvarTarget=browse either way ill be getting the 6'6 m/h ...im really only favoring the diawa because the reel is daiwa if you have any experience please let me know thanks
  23. just for your info:: i got a symetre brand new off of ebay for $65 & love it......why not upgrade for a few bucks more http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Shimano-Symetre-SY-4000FI-5-A-RB-Spinning-Reel_W0QQitemZ130041773894QQihZ003QQcategoryZ36147QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com/SHIMANO-SYMETRE-2500FI-NIB-Spinning-Reel_W0QQitemZ170044485357QQihZ007QQcategoryZ36147QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com/SHIMANO-SYMETRE-1500FI-NIB-Spinning-Reel_W0QQitemZ170044484612QQihZ007QQcategoryZ36147QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  24. i agree that metal framed baitcasters are better...., but i have 2 old quantum ex501 models that are graphite & i love them...never had a problem with those reels...i think the quality of the reel is the bottom line....
  25. thanks for posting this o face, im in the process of getting the same reel & was thinking NEW ROD TOO....
