Berkley Havoc Pit Boss
I started to get the black/blue ones today but opted for some tubes. Kinda wish I had grabbed them instead. Right now, though, a couple of jigs and some trailers are first on my list.

I Think I Need Help
LOL. It would have been a good dream if I had got to see how big and what kind of fish, but I woke up to early. Yesterday George and I were getting plenty of bass but most were small. He couldn't tie a darn knot to save his life yesterday for some reason. The last fish he hooked fought like it was going to be easily 4lb but his know came undone so we'll never know.

Happy Father's Day
I was right. She took me to go pick out a rod. We're tight on money so I got the Shakespeare Extrusion 6'6" medium action. I know that you get what you pay for and all, but my shakespeare 6' spinning rod has pulled in a lot of bass not including 2 20lb catfish. So I am certain that I will enjoy this rod. And she got me some Mustad 5/0 EWG with the grip pin hooks. Now where's Helen Hunt........

I Think I Need Help
So last night I was fishing and I was using a lipless crank bait tennesee shad. The last cast I made it just had hit the water and WHAM! Something grabbed it and started running. I yanked back and my medium heavy rod was at almost a 90 degree. My 30# braid was starting to make noises and it was getting harder and harder to reel. That fish must have been a monster. But, sadly I will never know because I woke up. So, if anyone knows of any good BA's (Bassaholics Anonymous) please let me know. I enjoy fishing a lot, but not to the point where almost every night I'm fishing in my dreams. Seriously, I can't remember the last time I didn't have a fishing dream.

Happy Father's Day
Happy Father's Day to you too. My boy kinda spilled the beans yesterday. He said that we was going to wally world today and that he couldn't tell me why. I asked my wife if she wanted me to go with her and she said yes, which means that she knows nothing about fishing stuff and doesn't want to mess up. Right now of all the things I would love to have, I need a new b/c rod. Preferably one that's 7' with a fast tip. Of course, it would be great if I could have Angelina Jolie or Helen Hunt for just one day. Pft, like that would happen.

Weight Question Pics Included
This is why I bought me a Berkley scale at wally world for $5. I got tired of people around me telling me that my bass didn't weigh as much as I thought they did. LOL

My Favorite Point
Well, it didn't go like I had hoped. The bass were weird today. We caught a total of 12 bass (me 7 and George 5) and out of those 2 weighed in a 1# and 2#. The rest weren't even half a pound. Just doesn't make sense. I threw everything except the spinnerbaits and the lipless crankbait. I got 3 on the Bill Dance Xcalibur Pop-R Jr. 1 on the Yum Ribbon Tail (funny story about that in a minute). 1 on a NetBait Salt Lick red bug, 1 on the Strike Kind KVD 2.5 sexy shad. And 1 on the Anaconda. This was all between 6am-12pm. Back to the Yum Ribbon Tail red shad. The second cast with that lure it got back to me and as I was bringing it back out of the water a small bass shot toward it from the right. I mean less than a foot from the bank. It sat there looking at me as if to say "Aww, I wanted that!". So, I obliged it and lightly tossed it back. That dern bass shot after it again, grabbed it and took off. Naturally I pulled him in. But, it was hard for me to reel it in because I about fell out of the chair laughing so hard. Oh, here's the pic of the bass with the crank bait. I was so happy.

My Favorite Point
Heading out this morning. I'm gonna put those Rage Tail Anaconda and Smokin' Rooster to the real test. Without a doubt I will be throwing those, NetBait Salt Lick, Yum Dinger (w/o F2), Yum 10" Ribbon Tail Red Shad, a popper, the swim jig/ Rooster combo, and a frog. Though, I am taking some cranks and spinner baits just incase because I know I will be mad at my self if I don't. The only thing I hate is that it takes 45 minutes to walk there which isn't easy for me. Then you take on the weight I will be carrying. Anyways, I hope to pull a couple of 5+ and maybe even beat my total bass caught in a day record. We're hoping for 10-15 each. Let ya know how it goes but there won't be any pics unless I catch some 5+ pounders. Also, I would like to add that I hope for the best for those who are going fishing this morning. Have fun, safe trip, and may the fishing be great today.

Smokin' Roosters And Swim Jigs
Thanks. I'm still learning the ins and outs of various jigs, spinner baits, and hard plastics. To be honest, I didn't really expect to get any strikes and I almost forgot to set the hook. I was just so excited that I got a bite on the swim jig much less the june bug Rooster. Black/ blue flake Rooster I'm happy with, but that's another story already written. But, I've been after that particular bass since April. There's 2 more swimming that area I want badly. One's around 4-5 pounds and the other is around 5-6 pounds. Them jokers are smart.

Is There A Lure That You Have To Buy Even When Already Own Enough?
Of course, if anyone is feeling like they have too much and want to get rid of some stuff you can send them to 163..........................

Is There A Lure That You Have To Buy Even When Already Own Enough?
If my wife didn't have me on a money leash I'm not sure where the stopping point would be. I absolutely love Zoom trick worms, stick baits, and quite recently Strike King's Rage Tails. The latter I'm kinda p/o because I am on a short leash and I'm gonna have to wait to make ordering online worth it. When I go to the fishing isle at wally world or to my favorite local shop, I feel like a kid in the toy section. I usually have something in mind before, but when I get there it's like "Oooh, which do I get?". I have roughly 15 pounds of soft plastics (I weighed my bag) and I couldn't tell you how much in hard plastics. It's like the healthier version of crack or Lay's potato chips ("Betcha can't buy just one lure!").

Beginner Set Of Lures
Yeah, I left off spinner baits because I'm still learning those. Although I did get side tracked on using the Rage Tails. As far as scents go, the only ones I've tried are Yum F2 Shad and Baitmate's Shad. Not really seen that much difference or increase. However, most of my soft plastics I'm using lately come with salt and anise or salt and coffee. I personally think that the coffee scent is really there to wake the fisherman up. Java anyone? Just kidding. Gamakatsu, Mustad, Owner, and Lazer Trokar hooks are some of the best hooks imho. Having used all but the Owner, I find the biggest problems with hook ratio's is me. Either I get excited and set the hook too soon or I just plain forget to set the hook. But, I don't lose to many either way. IMO, the key to buying lures is not to get dead set on name brands just for the sake of the name brand. I love most of Zooms products but only because I've caught my fair share on them. I am recently getting into Strike King's Rage Tails (the real test comes tomorrow morning) and I love NetBait's Salt Lick (senko knock off). Oh, the Yum Red Shad 10" ribbon tail works wonders too. The point is I get them because I've found them to work. Companies don't start off being name brand. They get that way because their stuff works and word got around. In other words, something off-brand today may very well be name brand a few years from now. Don't be afraid to test products that not many people have heard of.

Bass Fishing Minority
Some people are like that. For me fishing for bream and crappie is too boring and I don't have what it takes to fish for catfish. That's pretty much all that's in my lake.
-
What Would You Use In The Heat?
From what little experience I have and what I've learned on here: drop-shot worm, t-rig and c-rig most of your soft plastics, slow rolling heavy spinnerbait, and the lipless crank. Also, don't neglect the shallows. Especially if your lake has weeds and moss near the banks. I learned that lesson yesterday. Oh, I didn't mean to leave out your jigs. You can pitch them to cover, but you can also work them like a t-rig in deep open water.

Bass Fishing Minority
I feel your pain, flippin and pitchin. My community has a lake and I would say that 95% who fish are fishing for bream, crappie, or catfish. I only know of maybe 4 other people who actively fish for bass. I do however know of a few old coots who are happy to sit on their porch and swear that anyone who says they caught anything out of the lake are liars but that's for another story.......

A Couple Questions From A Confused Fisherman
I also want to leave you with this tip. A lot of people tend to jump spots way too quickly. Spend a little more time at a spot. Sometimes it's a matter of chucking everything you have until they hit. Or sometimes it's a matter of ticking them off to get that reaction bite by casting the same lure to the same spot several times. Even that Van Dam fellow will tell you that he'll cast a buzzbait to the same lone stump 15-20 times before he gets a hit. My buddy, George, will fish a spot for 5 minutes and then get frustrated and wonder why he don't catch anything. Grant it, we are chained to bank fishing, but you still have to be willing to spend a little longer especially if the bass are lockjawed.

Hula Popper Help
Ah. Okay, I was under the misguided notion that if you did a steady pop back to you then it would spook (no pun intended) the bass. Thank you.

Smokin' Roosters And Swim Jigs
Correction, it was "Swim Jigs". Sorry.

Smokin' Roosters And Swim Jigs
As most know I've been having problems with the june bug Rooster. Yesterday (before I bought the black/blue flake), I got p/o and shoved 3 of them onto different things. 2 of which was the chatterbait and my crappy Booyah Swim Jig. This morning, just for laughs, I took the swim jig and june bug Rooster combo out fishing. Before I continue, I still say the swim jig is crappy and I have definitely got to get a better one. Where am I going with this? Let's just say I answered my own question on another post "Swim Jigs and Trailers". I asked the questions that since the Roosters have such great swimming action, why do most people think little of using it for a swim jig trailer? In less than 30 minutes of fishing my theory was justified. I landed a 2-3lb (felt like 3 but looked like 2) bass. Not that big, but once again it's not the point. The bass didn't just get hooked while passing by. He didn't just try to kill it. He inhaled it. I felt like saying "He hammered it!" (ode to KVD). So now I will shut up and let the pics do the talking. Oh and ignore the date on the camera. We never set it.

Hula Popper Help
Until I get my Spook replaced I am left with the hula popper, buzzbait and the KVD Sexy Frog. Since the hula popper is the only one I've gotten hits off of yet I need to know something. Yesterday while I finally started getting bass on the black/blue Rooster, I noticed someone was fishing with a hula popper. But his retrieve was: pop, stop, pop, stop, pop, stop. Literally just as fast as you read that. Does that work? I've always done a pop, stop, wait retrieve. For example: pop, pop, stop, wait for rings to fade or pop, pop, pop, stop, wait for rings to fade. I'm going to my favorite point this weekend and the first couple of hours are always good for topwater there, so any help would be good.

Swim Jigs
Since it was brought up, Seeing the swimming action of the Smokin' Rooster why does it not seem to be a good trailer for a swim jig? I mean, the swim jig is basically the same as a spinnerbait without the spinner arm and blades. In other words, you are swimming it like a fish (for the most part). It would seem to me that the swimming arms and tail of the Smokin' Rooster would make it a great trailer. Just curious. I got p/o at the june bug Rooster and stuck one on everything I could find: chatterbait, swim jig, pitching/flipping jig, skirtless football jig (I thought it was a shaky head jig). Haven't tried them out yet. Except the chatterbait and man does it look good in the water. No hits though.

Jig Trailer For Ponds
Interesting thing about the black and blue jig. It can be fished day or night and, from quite a few people, does really good. With that color jig you have a nice selection of colors for your trailer: black, black/blue flake, and any variation of blues that are out there. You could also do sorta the same with your green jig. Any green, orange, purple, brown, and even chartreuse. There are times when the bass seem to want the matched jig/trailer. Other times a complimentary difference in colors will draw the attention of the bass and before he knows it you have his eyes crossed. One of the things I'm starting to learn is to play with the colors. A lot of the pros got to where they are because they were willing to think out of the box. Hope this helped.
