  1. Maybe some people like spinning reels better and do not want to carry around multiple rods.
  2. I was looking for the Cavitrons at Dick's and they are always out of them.
  3. You can park under the train tracks to get access to the dam.
  4. Thanks for all of your responses. They provided a lot of insight into the topic!
  5. I was at the store yesterday and I noticed something about the length of the rods. When I compared 6' and 7' rods of the same model, the majority of the extra length is in the butt (behind the grip). The extra length in the tip is only about 3-6 inches. Does that small increase in length really make a big difference in the casting distance?
  6. Try running it without a trailer first. If it does not spin, then you know that the trailer is at fault.
  7. How did you break that rod? The fiberglass rods are suppose to be close to impossible to break. I have a Rick Clunn rod too, that is why I am curious.
  8. Crap, they are doing Lake Royal too? Huntsman Wooodglenn Lake Braddock Lake Royal Which ones are they "not" dredging?
  9. I'm gonna cry....they are ruining the lakes in the area...all at the same time!
  10. Whatever it is, it looks beautiful to me!
  11. I don't see why not. It's still a rod and reel. I wouldn't be happy being in a boat with a fly fisher though.
  12. I haven't fished there since last summer (around the dam area - didn't catch much). I plan on trying it out again, further back in the lake this time.
  13. Several people are using it. There are several posts about them.
  14. Did you put her back in after the photo?? Just kidding....congratulations!
  15. That's my favorite too. Nice pictures overall!
  16. Hey DJ, I sometimes use circle hooks also to keep from gut hooking the fish. I can give you a couple to try out.
  17. I used a circle hook so it it hooked on the corner of the mouth away from the teeth!!
  18. On Saturday, we went out to a local pond in Chantilly VA to do some bass fishing. I didn't really plan on doing any catfishing, but I had a couple of hotdogs with me so I decided to put it on the spare UL rod (6 lb line) that I had in the car. I had it in a rod holder with a bell attached while I walked along the bank for bass. You should have seen me sprint toward my rod when I heard that bell ringing. The catfish bent the rod completely over. I was very careful playing it fish on such light gear, but eventually I was able to pull it to the bank. I am just glad it was open water without any trees to snag the line. Only got one other bass, but the catfish made my day!!
  19. CP, I hope that you get it taken resolved by either Dicks or Abu. Good luck.
  20. That'll happen with almost any hook that a fish swollows. But if you are attentive while you are fishing the fish should not have time to get the lure that far down into their bellies. But even while catfishing with my rod in a rod holder (with plenty of time to swollow the hook), I've never gut hooked one on a circle hook.
  21. September 2014?? Why are they teasing us for so long?
  22. Avoiding gut hooks is one of the main reasons that they made the circle hooks.
  23. The hook point is bent in. It would be very unlikely for the point to catch in the gut. The point is only exposed when the hook is turned.
  24. Hey CP, I use circle hooks for wacky rigs sometimes. It's always worked well for me. As previously mentioned, just slowly reel the line back and when the fish turn with the worm in its mouth, the hook will set itself. I typically don't have problems with the fish spitting the bait out. The normally eat the worm and start swimming away immediately causing the hook to set. I also use Megastrike to make sure they hold on a bit longer.
