Loomis Nrx 852S
Good question. Hopefully some NRX owners will be along to comment. I don't own an NRX but right before the season ended built a spinning rod with alconite reduction guides, size 2 recoil fly guides and a size 6 alconite top (has almost the same inner diameter as the recoils but could have gone a size smaller on the recoils). The rod is Layed out in the new guide concept and I paid particular attention to a proper spacing on the runners. Know what? Many times when I release the bail on the reel and have the bait drop down, it hangs up. This caused me great concern as I spent a great deal of time and effort to put this together. The reality I made it a point to cast a variety of baits from 1/8 tubes and drop shots to flukes and 5/8 topwaters and the rod never hung up on the cast and cast's great. Long sorry short if you like the rod and it's a great price, buy it. You can always sell it down the road.

What Makes A Rod Tip Heavy?
I read a lot about tip heavy rods and have begun to wonder why? In a few recent posts there have been mentions of stcroixs over 7 feet as tip heavy. The heaviest st croix I own is a 7'medium spinning rod. It's actually the stoutest rod I own and I built it with a short handle as I felt my factory 7mlf handle was to long. It has a 8oz reel on it and feels nice in hand. So back to my question how and what makes a rod tip heavy?

My Christmas Present From The Girl Friend
A great tool to have in rod building is a vernier calipers. You can use them to measure many related things including rod guides. The second part I'll let the more experienced guys answer.

Can I Have A Rod Spiral Wrapped?
In rod building you can have almost anything you want. You will obviously need to have the guides removed and then rewarped in a spiral fashion. It can be done but you gotta pay to play.

Split Shot Rig Question
I caught the fish in my avatar on a split shot rig. 5'6 light action rod and tiny trout reel. Lots of fun. I don't fish the split shot much anymore but usually just did a slow hop and drag retrieve. Really you could retrieve it many ways. With a grub who knows a slow steady retrieve might be the ticket.

New Tubes: Can You Help Me ??
I don't like to spend a lot on tube jigs. Usually fish 1/8-1/4 tube jig heads with eagle claw hooks and the cheapest tubes I can find at any given moments. Like green, orange and maybe a black or smoke. It works for me. Sorry missed a few points. Usually have a 1/0 or 2/0 hook on the jig head. One of the best tips I've heard here on br; don't push the jig head all the way to the top of the tube leave a small gap at the top. It should help from snagging so much.
