  1. One word. JETS. Lol.
  2. When you guys are towing your boats (outboards specifically) do you put the motor up or down? I've been doing it up. Don't want to smack it on my bumpy driveway or curb. A guy at the launch said to do it down, to avoid snapping or wearing out the pin. Looked on some boat forums and it seems 50/50. Don't have a transom saver yet it's an 82lb 9.9 mercury.
  3. Very Nice. That's a great color. What do they call that?
  4. Sounds like a good time. Thanks for the info John.
  5. 10 foot? I don't have anything like that. Could I get away with a 7'm st.croix? The videos I watched they were using longer rods as well is that a necessity? Thanks for the tip on the spot. The videos I was watching today the guys were using something that sounds similar to the rig you mentioned. I will research those.
  6. Buddy called today and asked if I was interested in going to Pulaski,ny for the salmon run. He knows even less about fishing then I do lol but apparently his friend has fished the run before. I watched a video or two on YouTube. Saw guys using fly rods and spinning reels. My question is what kind of gear/line would I need for these fish? They look to be in the 10-30lb range? I have some medium light and medium spinners with 2500 size reels and medium heavy low pro casters. Not really looking to buy a new setup or rod or reel. Can I catch and land these fish with what I have already? Thanks in advance.
  7. If you have to do anything important or quickly on your lunch break you will undoubtedly end up stuck behind a little head of blue hair and late returning back to work.
  8. Awesome Fish!
  9. How are you breaking these rods ? Maybe try a berkley lighting rod or ugly stick.
  10. I'm really liking this cooler weather we are having. The fish on the river always seem to be up for a snack around 3 O'clock. Caught a few good ones this weekend.
  11. If you have never used a ml give it a try. I prefer a ml st.croix for many applications. This guy like a ml rod too and I think he knows a thing or two about catching fish. http://www.insideline.net/weeklynews/2008/08-0529.html
  12. St.croix 7'0 mlf. Sc 3,4 or 5
  13. Did you catch any fish while dragging that jig? The reason I ask is once you start to catch fish dragging over rocks you will soon recognize subtle differences. Like others have said time on the water is the best teacher. 2 quick stories. I was dragging a tube over a rocky flat the other day and bamm felt a fish. Set the hook and it didn't budge. It was a rock or wood. Happens to everyone lol. Again dragging a tube over a different rocky flat boat came by and had to jump up and move over about ten feet rod in one hand. Went to shake the tube. Lifted up and didn't feel it go back down. Set the hook fish on! In my experience working a tube I find the bites either to be a quick tap or a subtle difference in resistance between you and the bait.
  14. One of the best at his craft. RIP Robin Williams
  15. Would it be a bad idea to put it around the head of the screw?
  16. Installed a lowrance 4x on my jon boat today. Took it out on the water and when I loaded the boat there was a bunch of water in the plug area. Normally it's bone dry so I would conclude it's from the holes I drilled for the transducer. I covered the screws in marine grade epoxy prior to installation but it's pretty clear I didn't get a good seal. Anyone have any tips on how to seal this better? Thanks in advance.
  17. Give it a try. All you have to lose is a few casts. There is nothing better than having a river smallie explode on a topwater. I'll just add. If you are fishing rocky river banks don't focus so much on getting the lure into the middle of the river. I've had most of my hits within 10-20 feet of the banks being able to cover further down the bank is more important to me.
  18. I don't know what kind of rod you have but if it's rated anywhere around 1/8-3/8 try the junior but you may need you binoculars to see how far away it landed.
  19. Popper, super spook jr, gunfish 95, zara puppy, and on and on. I fish all these and more on a 7ft ml avid and love it.
  20. How do you like to fish? If most of your fishing is weeds and grass filled lakes get a medium heavy. If you fish rocky rivers with grass patches in the summer get a medium light.
  21. Maybe I've been watching Monster Fish too much is it impossible for an 10-11lb fish being caught out of those waters? I'm not saying that one is. It looks freaking huge to me but I'm no fish weight expert.
  22. I like a mix of alconite reduction guides and recoil running guides using the New guide concept method. Built two rods so take that with a grain of salt. I've been bugging Mike since I joined this site and he has always given me an educated and unbiased answer to any questions I've had. Like jrob (another very knowledgeable member) said whatever you and him choose; I highly highly doubt you will be disappointed.
  23. lol I was thinking the same thing. That's truly awesome man. Your company and co-workers must really appreciate all you do there. Congrats.
  24. Sounds like a sweet setup. Way to get back into fishing! Well like everything in fishing it depends. I'm a spinning reel with 10lb braid and ten pound leader fan but that's out. Do you intend on casting any topwaters with the rod? If so I guess flouro is out. My brand for mono on a spinning reel is sufix doesn't matter to much to me red or blue kind. 8 would be perfect on that stradic you could even get away with ten. What ever line you choose just remember to spool the line in the same direction it comes off the spool.
