  1. If you don’t mind ordering JDM from some place Japan Lure Shop or JapanTackle you can get the 5 ration in RH or LH retrieve. However it’s a 150size spool, so not sure it’s got the line capacity people want for the deepest plugs on the longest rods. I don’t deep crank enough to know or say for sure.
  2. Burro I agree on the weight, by a lot of standards it’s not an awfully heavy reel by the specs. But compared to most any other bc reel in my rack it’s gonna be heavy enough that I’d notice the difference. That’s why I’d like to see the design concept for the frame make its way to other reels with other materials. But I’m also going to wait and see how it’s reviewed once it’s released and how it does in the field for anglers here before I pass judgement. With the 5.x:1 ratio available JDM in right and left retrieves it should be a killer option for a powerful cranking reel though.
  3. Haven’t tried ZPI yet, or Boca. Very happy with the Hedgehog ZRs in my Tatula SV, and they are very affordable. Tackle Trap is a great shop and resource as others have noted.
  4. 8.1 ratio pushes the weight to 7.9 oz. Not awful, still light by comparison to many older designs. The 7.1 option is lighter then I thought so weight might not as much of an issue as I first thought.
  5. The balancing is a good point.
  6. Guess I will be trying acetone or something else...
  7. While that all may be your opinion and maybe valid, I’d like to see this new frame construction and features in a magnesium package as well as the aluminum version. I would expect it to be priced higher, and maybe come to the next revision of the Metanium. For my needs and fishing style reels getting heavier doesn’t excite me. Yep all of us who prefer lighter reels for various reasons are weak limp wristed, etc. the fact is I had a wrist injury a whole lot years ago and in the past several years I’m having problems with that wrist. The reel close to 8 oz, an oz heavier then a Chronarch MGL or a Metanium in the higher gear ratios. Doesn’t seem like a lot of weight but it’s a difference you can feel. Not saying the reel won’t be amazing or a game changer. I’d just like to see a lighter version. I’ll add this, the design and construction look amazing and innovative, it is an exciting advancement. Also the weight is probably lower then you would expect for such a robust aluminum frame. Hopefully the design philosophy finds its way into other reels in the future.
  8. If you’re worried why not just call Shimano, they’re likely to have the best info for you.
  9. On spinning gear for weightless senkos I use 8lb tatsu or 7lb sniper. On casting gear I use 12lb tatsu or sniper.
  10. Powell just released a new Endurance series including crankbait specific line. They have several glass composite but also one all graphite model that’s a MH ModFast that looks interesting. I had a St Croix Legend Elite 7’2” MHM crankbait stick and I found that model a bit too mod/whippy and the handle was too short. I sold that one on. My father has a 6’6” Avid MHM and it’s not as whippy. That has lead me to other options for graphite crank rods, not sure how the Pemier handles, I’d guess close to the Avid. I really like Kistler KLX crankbait, rio, twitch series rods they have a mod fast action I like for cranks that aren’t as soft. I also like my Orochi XX Flatside Special and Spinnerbait Specials for cranks. I also have a Hammer Rods 7’3” MH all American micro rod that I’m trying out as a versatile rod for cranks too. It’s more of a mod fast action as most of their rods are I’m told. They’re inexpensive with great sensitivity for the price. But build quality is not top notch in my opinion, I noticed guide wrap epoxy work was way too heavy, sloppy, and inconsistent. That’s my only gripe about the rod.
  11. By the specs it’s more within the L to ML power range, and seems suited to almost BFS presentations. I’m thinking drop shots, weightless worms, light shakeyheads, etc. but I’ve never used a casting rod that light. I think you’d need a pretty BFS oriented reel to pair it with.
  12. You’ll have to let us know how they compare. I’d be surprised if the Hyuga blank is as crisp or sensitive as the Orochi XX but those things can be subjective. I’d likely never try the Hyuga bc I hate Eva handles. The TV was my first heavy rod, and I think it’s a good stick but it doesn’t stand out to me like some of my other XX rods. I thinks it’s taper for versatility took away from the taut lively feel of others in the series. But at 199 it’s a hell of a deal.
  13. Megabass Orochi XX Tour Versatile, last I checked they were still available from the Tackle Trap for $199 shipped. Not the best rod in the series, but a very versatile heavy powered stick.
  14. I have Chronarch CI4+, Chronarch MGL, Curado I, Chronarch 51E, and a 13 Metanium. I also have a couple Daiwas including a Tatula sv TW which is fantastic given its price it’s amazing. But by far my favorite is the 13 Met, the level of refined quality, smoothness, ease of casting and pitching anything, and ergonomics, it’s the whole package and an incredible reel if you’re willing to pay for it.
  15. I’m gonna check mine as well maybe some still have it on the shelves.
  16. I was looking for it and have read that Lowe’s no longer carries it.
  17. Helium 3 for sure, no doubt it is more sensitive, lighter, and better for finesse applications. I have KLX and Helium 3 sticks, like them both but prefer the Helium for sure. KLX are moving bait rods for me.
  18. Look at the Kistler Helium 3 Heavy Xfast, they come in several lengths. The MH Xfast will work for the 3/8 but I think 1/2 in cover might be a bit much for it. My MHXF is a fantastic rod, very light and sensitive, and not quite a true Xfast but I’m ok with that. Right now they’re running a 20% off sale in their site. They are cork split grips, but if you contact them for a fee they’ll do a full grip for you.
  19. Looks like an interesting reel. Would like to see a magnesium version for weight savings.
  20. Yeah he does, he’s outta room for more rods! Time to expand.
  21. Bearings between the two Steez models seem to be different. The regular Steez SV is just what Daiwa calls ball bearings (BB) and the newer TW version is corission resistant ball bearings (CRBB). That and the twing plus an additional bearing are the differences on paper. I’m betting the twing makes the ergonomics at the front of the reel different too.
  22. I was planning on getting a couple Zillion SV TWs to add to my arsenal. But the price on the Steez SV on TW is very tempting. I’d the Steez SV worth it and appropriate for an all purpose bottom contact reel, even pitching into cover? I know the Steez SV TW is well regarded but that’s pushing the budget. Haven’t heard much about the regular Steez SV.
  23. I ordered some during the TW sales to try out. Glad to hear folks like it.
  24. Contact the guys at The Tackle Trap, besides being super knowledgeable they’re also an authorized Daiwa service center. They can tell if the spool is toast or if it can be repaired.
