  1. Yahoo $25 (tackle or cash is fine) standard aka non PPR
  2. Great advice there. You will be forced to feel the bite and not see it. it may be frustrating at first but it won't take long before you get the nag of it. Bass at night are less wary and more apt to feed in my experience too.
  3. Personally i hate leashes in a kayak. It is just one more thing to get tangled and can create a safety hazard should you flip. Paddles float and there are rod floats if yo are concerned about losing them. In my first year or two of kayaking i did lose 2 rods but that was my fault as i did not think through the layout and rod locations. Since then I have been lucky not to lose any. Now if i was fishing a lot of rivers where flipping was common i would get floats and not leashes but for now, I am good.
  4. My response was based off your comments but yo can do whatever you want because i have a feeling you will anyways no matter what kind of advice anyone gives you on here.
  5. it's not about enjoying kayaking as much as it is enjoying the kayak itself
  6. Go to http://www.usatf.org/routes/map/ andmap the route and it will give you the mileage and then you can figure it out based on your boat speed. Pretty straightforward stuff really....
  7. it could be a real expensive lesson just because you don't like using other people's things. You can generally tell in a short period of time if you will like fishing out of a kayak or not, or at least that is my experience.
  8. i have done it for years and i also like to rig them on slider heads, especially for river smallies. My new favorite though is the confidence baits draggin' head. Works very well and rarely if ever gets snagged in rivers or lakes.
  9. There are definitely baits i enjoy fishing more but that is because they catch fish in an exciting way. Topwater comes to mind specifically. There are not really any techniques I hate but there are some I don't have confidence in or just don't use that often. Drop shot comes to mind of me. I know it produces well but i haven't really used it that much.
  10. Whatever shoes are comfortable in other situations will also be comfortable while fishing. The only thing you need to look for is the ability to dry quickly if you plan on your feet getting wet. I wear Keen sandals both in the slip on and non slip on variety. They are legitimate shoes that are also sandals you get support that you need, not like crocs which are nothing more than expensive EVA foam covered in plastic and they are horrible for your feet.
  11. yeah and he likes to fly fish and road bike and apparently upgrade their Jeep too...
  12. I am in for sure I am not a fan of PPR league as i feel like you are double counting but at the same time I am not too picky. I would also want to know how are special teams scores counted, are they on the Defense or only the individual players or are they counted for both? I have been in leagues that do it all those ways so I am cool with anything we decide on. I am also in favor of a few baits or whatever to make it interesting. We could also just do a gift card to one of the major online tackle retailers. I also prefer yahoo for the venue but that is mainly because i am in about 3 other leagues that use yahoo so it would be easier for me. i also wouldn't mind doing a pick 'em league...just winners and losers nothing against the spread with your lowest score not counting. That is also something that can be set up in yahoo as well...
  13. Good advice and i will add one more thing, wear sunglasses for said baits whizzing past your head I saw an article on here somewhere that basically said to go out to a pond that you know has a good population of sunnies and set up a split shot rig with a small 3-4" worm. It won't take long before you begin to understand what a take feels like. I used to fish texas rigs a lot and then got away from it but this year I have started again and it has paid off nicely. It is worth learning how to fish them well and learning the takes. Watching the line and feeling the bait is key. I have caught many fish where i never felt the take but something felt off, maybe the line wasn't moving like it had been or it stopped when i thought it shouldn't.
  14. It is a horny head chub that looks to be in spawning coloration. I have caught them with a pronounced head dome and little spikes all over it and bright purple before. The first time I caught one i thought i had some mutant fish but after some research, it wasn't lol
  15. i fish mostly smaller lakes because that is what is around me and most are HP restricted so that makes it even easier for me in the kayak. Don't get me wrong, I like fishing bigger water too but i feel like i spend a few trips just figuring out the lay of the lake and paddling more than fishing. The smaller lakes allow me to do more fishing and less time searching.
  16. i have caught catfish on every type of bass bait from crank baits, to flukes, to stick worms, to texas rigs and even topwater poppers. Catfish are pretty voracious predators and every time i think i have a new personal best on the line until i feel them roll or see them come to the surface. Doesn't change that they are fun to fight just adds a little disappointment.
  17. To go to the Grand Tetons and bass fish is just wrong....it is like going to a seafood restaurant and ordering a grilled cheese.
  18. While it may be close if i can't cast and hit them, I generally think it is ok, albeit kind of annoying as I work my way down a shoreline or piece of structure. Another thing you could have gleaned from the experience is why was he sitting in that one spot for thirty minutes? I would have probably hung out and watched him fish for a while and then as soon as he was gone i would head to his spot and see why he was there.
  19. I am relaxed, i just know what I want to see and what will make me satisfied as a fan. As far as getting past Green Bay goes, they are solid for sure but I think the Eagles defense is going to surprise people this year. From a yards standpoint they will always let up a lot given the whole philosophy Chip has regarding time of possession but with a much improved secondary they will win more games. I mean last year, if they had an average secondary they win two more games probably if not 3. Their secondary was historically bad at giving up the big play.
  20. you know how i feel about the Cheatriots lol The Eagles have some questions on offense for sure but the upgraded defense and great special teams hopefully help ease any growing pains they may have on that side of the ball. And i am dead serious though, i have been through enough seasons where we don't win that nothing else matters. we can go 16-0 and lose in the playoffs and i will still be ticked off lol
  21. I switched over to braid for all my cranking needs and have been very pleased. I go with 8lb diameter myself. The added feel is great and having a crank bait specific rod helps with keeping the fish buttoned up. I lose less fish now than i did before i switched to braid using the same exact set up. It also helps the baits to dive deeper as the line is smaller diameter and has less resistance when cutting through the water. I may see if my reel can handle 6lb diameter braid when it is time to respool but I don't see that happening anytime soon
  22. actually they didn't knock us out of the playoffs and i am far from bitter. I know the cowboys are back to 8-8 this season. And how quickly you forget the Thanksgiving game where our backup led team trounced the cowboys in their stadium on national TV....it's all good though, that's why they play the games and I am looking forward to the Eagles chances and I will take their progression over the Cowboys any day of the week. It will be interesting to see how many games Dez sits out to make a point and how much of a distraction he is this season since the cowboys can't make a deal work and they only have 5 more days to do it.
  23. I have a bunch of hobbies. Cycling, grilling and smoking large quantities of pork and beef, camping, hiking, hanging out with my son and wife....pretty much like to keep myself busy. I also do different types of fishing like fly fishing for both cold water and warm water species, surf fishing and some inshore fishing.
  24. you did better than I did when i was there a few weeks ago but i was mostly surf fishing and only went inshore fishing one day. Looks like next year i need to focus more on the inshore variety
  25. I have the aqua bound model that Darren posted and I have been happy with it. There are a lot of paddles out there though and most are good and much like fishing rods, it comes down to personal preference.
