  1. Anyone else find it funny that a thread that is now 7 pages long asking about post high school education plans has the word "collage" in the title...i mean i know we all brought it up but it still cracks me up every time i see it.
  2. I wear Keen H2 myself. They have a real sole on them and drain well. They also have a toe bumper so you don't have to worry about them while wading. Small gravel can get inside them at times but they are easy to get out. All in all, they fit my needs well as a kayak guy. Just be sure to spray your feet with some sun protection or you will get some crazy tan lines. I will say that the majority of time in the summer i am going barefoot once the kayak is on the water.
  3. I have braid on all my rigs including my crank bait set up. I rarely if ever use a leader. If i fished more walk the dog type baits i would probably switch to something different because the braid tends to get fouled up more quickly on the front trebles but since that isn't a technique i do all that often, I just manage it is at happens.
  4. I got them for a good price and when i checked out the rage rods in the store i liked them so i went for it given the deal they had going. I am not a fan of full cork handled rods either.
  5. I had the regular avid not the avid X but i sold them when I got my rage rods. They had a buy 2 get one free deal two years ago so i picked up 3 And the regular avid has standard guides i believe.
  6. 12lb line on a spinning reel seems to be really heavy. I know on my 2500 sized reels it acts a lot better with 6lb diameter. Not sure if that is part of the problem or not though...
  7. I have used both the avid and now the rage rods quite a bit. They both are good rods and on the same blanks. I prefer a split style grip and the rage rod is closer to that than the avid. The price is also a little bit better and while they are labeled as micro guide rods, I see them more as an in between really. I own 2 spinning and one casting and have zero complaints. As far as the weight goes, they are very similar. the 6'8" MXF spinning rods are .2oz different with the avid being the lighter of the two and in other comparable rods you will find about the same weight difference. I actually find the rage to "feel" lighter when set up with the same reel which may be attributed to the smaller guides but who knows....they are both good sticks and you won't be disappointed with either one.
  8. X2 that would be my guess as well
  9. i have heard them referred to as the golden bonefish too it is the only fish i have caught on my fly rod that i was worried about my fly fine to backing knot, especially when i caught them on my 4 wt
  10. I have read that they are good but only when the water is colder because i the summer time the meat is a little softer. I am not gonna try it because for one it is a pain for me to keep fish and two i think they are awesome fish and i can't bring myself to kill fish that has been around since the time of the dinosaurs.
  11. I haven't had a palomar knot slip out in braid as of yet. If they are tied correctly and dressed properly, the slip factor is very very low.
  12. Get a kayak and it will open up many lakes that were previously inaccessible. I still have yet to fish out there this year but it looks like i may have a few days off before i start my long term sub position so i am gonna try and get out there this week.
  13. on one of those swamp shows or maybe it was cajun pawn stars there was a guy who was going out to get the eggs from a bowfin for a wedding....
  14. I think buffalo is going to be a good team. I am looking forward to the Eagles Bills matchup for sure and seeing how McCoy does but lately he seems like a crybaby with all his complaining about the Eagles trading him but at the same time, he was a PA guy who never played in any other state and I do think he really enjoyed playing in Philly so he got his first lesson that the NFL is a business and isn't taking it well. He is going to play with a chip on his shoulder and we all know he can lay in the cold and snow so he will have a good season, as long as it isn't week 14.
  15. i have had better success with carp on the fly rod than any other technique. You have to wait to see that they are feeding as evidenced by their tails sticking up and little mud clouds. They are super spooky so a stealthy approach is paramount. They seem to take anything buggy looking when feeding, if they are cruising I have never caught one. My best day was one where they were feeding on top and i was catching them almost every other cast until i got tired of it. Those days, for me at least, are few and far between but well worth the wait when it does happen.
  16. I saw a show where Al Linder I believe was fishing a wacky rigged senko under a slip bobber and killing the smallies. I figure if you are gonna do that with her you might as well throw on a minnow or some other live bait.
  17. within one to two hours you have a ton of options. I would go look at the VA DGIF website and see what is in your area. Most listings advise on shore fishing opportunities.
  18. I have been throwing my chatter baits and spinnerbaits on what is labeled a MHF but i think it is more an in between M & MH rod. It seems to work better for me. I tried one of the moderate fast action deals for spinnerbaits and i did not like it at all, just didn't feel right to me.
  19. Rods Crate with tackle Fish Finder Stake out pole Pliers, scissors and lip grips Some food maybe Anchor occasionally Paddle PFD Cell Phone that's pretty much it....
  20. Interesting that they required it and didn't offer the classes for you but i guess if you are going for a black belt than you already have a green belt so there aren't many additional classes and more just a new project. using all the tools
  21. I caught him on a zoom fluke stick in a bunch of lilly pads. he pulled pretty good but not as good as they do in the summer. I was kind of surprised i go him in once i saw him since he was hooked on the outside of his mouth and i was using my spinning set up, 6'9" MXF spooled with 20lb braid. i am kind of bummed i didn't get a good measurement on him but either way, it was still a lot of fun.
  22. nothing worth anything in life is easy...as posted above, law school is not an easy career path and the same can be said for many other career choices
  23. And from what i understand, you don't want to keep retaking it as it doesn't look good on you when applying.
  24. Was targeting bass like always but there is this one spot that the last two times out i spooked something pretty big, never got a look at it though to see what it was. Today i was determined to catch whatever it was and i did.....my biggest bowfin to date. Unfortunately i couldn't measure him because i put him back in the water with my fish grips attached and he decided he had enough and he got off. I am pretty confident he was Virginia trophy size at 30" though....wish i had a chance to take better pics.
