  1. a lot of these custom type boats have limited websites because their boats are just that, custom. Word travels by word of mouth more than anything and seeing them on the rivers. I frequent a smallie site and the owner of river pro is a frequent poster and gives a ton of good info on jet boats.
  2. While my sixers are a looooooooong way from being in the NBA finals, I think this finals is going to be a great one. LeBron has willed his team to the finals and is playing at an incredible pace and they will face off against an up and coming team that is more new-school in style but limited experience. I think the cavs will win but every game will be close and i wouldn't be surprised one bit if it goes 7 games.
  3. river pro boats are crazy nice. there are actually quite a few river jet boat companies that make an incredible product. Back in the day, even tracker made a jet boat, my dad has one and they are awesome. it amazes me to go 45-50mph in about 6" of water with no issues. Not for the faint hearted though as getting off the throttle is your enemy.
  4. i have caught snappers on a fluke before and i have also had them bit clean through like someone used a pair of scissors on them so yeah, they will bite lures.
  5. Invasive to me doesn't always mean they aren't native to this country. A perfect example is when brook trout from the east coast were transplanted into the eastern sierras to supplement the population and they decimated the native golden trout population. So those to me, they are invasive at the same level as those fish from other countries. Do you have inks to any studies around their impact because i would like to read up more on the topic. I know many of the areas I fish hold some very large carp and i would be curious to see what type of impact they may have had on the fishing.
  6. Carp have been here for a long time and to call them invasive you would have to do the same with bass and a multitude of other species. I am also curious as to how they do more harm than good unless you are speaking specifically about the big head carp as that is one i have read about the negative impacts on specific fisheries but the common carp i haven't seen much information about het negative impact.
  7. i just started using the super soft on my spinning rod and after one outing, I am impressed. It is definitely a stretchier line than i am used to but that may be because i am used to braid.
  8. That is a much different situation than saying i am rarely in water deep enough for a fish finder to work and again, fish finders are not just for fishing directly beneath your boat as you are implying but if that is your use of them and that is works, then more power to you. And yes 12-14' is not shallow per se but i figured i didn't have to spell it out that those were the deeper portions and the majority of the lakes are much shallower as a whole and my depth finder still works just fine.
  9. I really like the cruise and for the money, i think it is one of the best boas out there. It is also a clean canvas so you can rig it however you want.
  10. My one concern is having a 14" boat because I have only used 12' boats or smaller for the most part other than paddling my dads old tarpon 140 which was a rocket basically compared to what i was used to. One more question on the ATAK if anyone knows, is that electronics pod open to the water below so you could use it for a side imaging setup if you wanted to?
  11. Yeah but i make two weeklong trips a year to the shore where having scuppers would be nice instead of renting a crappy kayak that isn't really made for fishing. I love my commander though and i only have the 12' version but it does a great job. I wouldn't mind getting a little more speed too since there are a few lakes i fish that require a decent, 3+ mile paddle one way, to get tot he areas i like to fish. And above all that, I haven't bought a new kayak in about 2 or 3 years now so i am itching for a new one lol
  12. Carp feeding has only increased my bass catching. The carp rooting around stirs up the little bugs and other things that the baitfish will eat and then the bass are soon to follow. I can also echo that this happens a lot for me with smallmouth as the carp and smallies seem to populate similar areas.
  13. And what boat is that? or do i have to read this whole thread to find it lol I have a commander but the Wildy ATAK is really intriguing me. I may try and sell my commander and get a river boat and get the ATAK for all my flatwater needs.
  14. Higher speed is better for the reasons mentioned above as long as you can make yourself work the bait slower as needed. I know many people who when they get a fast reel they work the baits way to quickly and have a tough time slowing down.
  15. I buy whatever products are the best value for me and my hard earned money. If they happen to be American made then great if not that is ok too because i am still supporting a company's infrastructure here in the US. I work too hard for my money to buy a product i feel is inferior just because of a made in USA logo. As far as quality gear goes, St. Croix has a lot of their rods made here in the US.
  16. i used the super soft this past weekend throwing topwater exclusively and it did fine.
  17. i love catching them and really want to get one on my fly rod. I agree that people are just ignorant when it comes to certain species. I couldn't bring myself to kill a fish that has been around since the time of dinosaurs just because....nice looking fish too
  18. Around 2.49 here in central Virginia.
  19. The clawdad is one of if not my favorite flies for smallies out there. Sierra trading post had a sale on them not too long ago and i stocked up. Try just letting them tumble through likely looking pools and you may be pleasantly surprised they work as streamers but they are more effective as a bottom presentation for me.
  20. Taking the top 16 teams is not the way to solve a non-existent problem. All leagues have ebbs and flows as far as competitiveness goes, it is just how it works. he East was weaker but the top teams were still solid. If you take the top 16 you eliminate much of the playoff run drama and excitement and will see even more tanking at the end of seasons to solidify draft position. Lebron is an incredible talent and while he is by no means loved by fans, the guy is special and will be if not already in the top of players to ever play. Nobody can do what he has done at the level he has done for as long. Scary thing is he still has a lot of good basketball to play before his skills begin to diminish.
  21. Try this stuff... http://www.fishusa.com/product/Cortland-Toothy-Critter-Tie-Able-Stainless-Steel-Leader-Material
  22. I didn't see the hard bait reference either....i am gonna go with a suspending jerkbait. You can fish them in lots of different ways and they produce pretty much all year round. The big problem with hard baits is the trebles do tend ot get caught up in weeds and grass more often which limits their use in certain scenarios.
  23. Fluke. You can rig it a bunch of different ways and it can be fished in any conceivable cover and produces year round. Jig would be my second choice.
  24. you can always go to a truck stop and most of them have scales so you could probably weigh the boat and tow vehicle and then just the tow vehicle to give you an idea.
  25. light weight or weightless are for targeting different areas of the grass though. If i am using a texas rig, that means i am I am trying to target the bass that are lower in the grass bad near the bottom. If i am using weightless or lightly weighted i am targeting middle or near the top of the grass. I don't think those two techniques are interchangeable.
