  1. Can't blame her, I am not a fan of fondant either
  2. they lock closed and do work very well. I would also never flop a bass with trebles onto my lap in my kayak. That is just axing for trouble, Generally i just grab where the trebles aren't and if i have to, I will use my fish grips but for the most part i can usually find a spot to grab the fish. I am not a fan of grabbing behind the head of the fish but i will do it if i have too.
  3. why is the dog crapping in the house would be my first question
  4. 10 weights are to heavy for most freshwater bass fishing in my opinion. You have to remember that the weight of the rod is as much about the size of flies you are using as it is your intended species. I like my 7wt for most bass and then i also have a Sage LM bass rod too which i think correlates to a 10wt line but it is a specialized taper, more of a shooting head so it really isn't like checking a 10 wt rod. Anyways.... I know nothing about saltwater fishing but i know a few friends who routinely go after tarpon on the fly and they use 13wts for the most part.
  5. A lot of guys use duct seal too which makes removal easier and moving it around a piece of cake.
  6. There are other boats in the line up that sell and customers want them so he sells them. And by junk, it doesn't mean the quality is bad per se but rather it is not a well designed boat. For lakes it would probably be ok, albeit slow but in that type of boat i am looking for maneuverability for a river and the lure just doesn't have it. It is really crazy though because i started kayak fishing about 4 years ago and the number of quality fishing kayaks out there has probably quadrupled, which is a good thing. I will say the seat in the lure was pretty comfy. I was looking at it as a replacement to my coosa i sold last year but I will probably get another coosa or a ride 115 instead...leaning towards the coosa though as I really did like that boat.
  7. If your suv has cross bars just put the boat right on the cross bars and strap it down. I'll second the advice on looking for a used boat if you have the time to wait for a good deal. The other thing to consider which i am not sure your budget includes or not is the price of a paddle and a PFD as those are obviously necessary once you get a kayak and will add some cost to the equation.
  8. I talked to a dealer who carries the lure and in his words "that boat is junk". It looked good when i saw the pics and reviews but after checking one out in person, not paddling mind you, i thought it looked like it would be like paddling a barge and not be very maneuverable which may be ok depending on your intended use but no thanks for me. Sorry to derail....
  9. Yes, I am going to keep posting my rides to keep this at the top until i reach my goal of $5000 raised or the ride happens Rode today went 19.46 miles averaging 16.4 MPH so not to bad. I was looking to add a few miles in to see how i would feel and surprisingly I felt pretty good and debated doing another 10 but I only had one water bottle with me and it was almost empty. Still a long ways to go till i can ride 75 miles on back to back days but given I have a bunch of time till the ride, I can pace myself and not try and do too much too quickly. http://www.mapmyride.com/workout/579185799
  10. Went on another ride today...still keeping the mileage low while i build up a decent base before i start adding on miles. Did my normal loop of right around 13 miles averaging a touch over 16 mph. Slowly but surely i will get there...who knew getting older and being off the bike would make it a little tougher to get the MPH up http://www.mapmyride.com/workout/576468493 I am also up to $455 in donations!!! I just might make my $5,000 goal...
  11. Anyone looking to learn a little more about grilling or smoking should check out this site.......great forums and awesome tips and recipes for every cut of meat out there. http://www.virtualweberbullet.com/
  12. I use a left hand retrieve on everything i throw from bait casters, spinning and fly reels. My thought was it never made sense to switch hands after casting so that is what i stuck with, pretty basic concept really but ultimately whatever works for you is what you should use.
  13. I would go with a roof rack and save the hassle of a trailer that you have to modify. I have heard of a lot of people liking the harbor freight deal and just as many who had nightmares titling, like has been mentioned, shoddy workmanship and having to rebuild them pretty much from the gourd up to be safe. The other thing to consider is the tire size and how far you will be traveling with the trailer. Personally, i am saving up till i can get the trailer i want and just dealing with putting my kayak on top of my wrangler.
  14. I don't hesitate to throw top waters all day long myself but while they will produce i find other techniques can be better depending on the situation.
  15. Up to $280 in donations so far!!!
  16. If the Heat put a hurting on the pacers in the first game of the series the pacers will fold...out west as much as i want to say the spurs will win, durant and westbrook when playing well are tough to beat.
  17. weather, email then another bass site, yeah i know sacrilege, then i check here most times. Of course all this takes about 5 minutes
  18. Braid will not cause your bait to ride higher but rather go deeper due to the thinner diameter, at least for me that is how it has been.
  19. Is much prefer single track as I used to live in one of if not the best area for mountain biking but since I moved to richmond, road biking is much easier to do without having to drive 2 hours to get to the good stuff
  20. i use braid on my cranking specific set ups and never use a leader. I do agree that to back off the drag some though, especially with a XF action
  21. if the river is still rising i have always had a tough time but if it is on the way down you can have some success. I usually do well tight to the bank in areas that break the current. In lakes I have a tough time in those conditions but that may be because i am not a fan of chucking spinnerbaits which for some reason seem to produce for all my buddies during those conditions. Bottom line is get out there, it doesn't hurt to try and you may figure something out for the next time you encounter the same conditions.
  22. While I do not have experience in that particular boat i would say that a 12' boat will serve you better if you can swing the added cost. Ten foot boats are good and they will no doubt get you on the water but they generally do not track as well as a 12 footer. On rivers, the shorter boat and added maneuverability will be nice to have but i know i fished for a year with a 12' with no issues on some pretty tight rivers. Good luck in finalizing your decision and no matter what, getting off the bank will be a huge improvement, no matter what boat you decide on.
  23. Given you said you will be fishing some rivers and a bay on lake Michigan i would definitely go with a SOT. The chances of a snake bothering you is relatively remote and if it does happen, you can extricate yourself from a SOT much more easily than a SINK. Also, think what happens if that snake gets inside the cockpit area of a SINK, yeah not too pretty in my mind's eye Then there is the topic of self bailing. On a river, at least where i am and fish, i am getting in and out of the boat pretty often which for one is easier in a SOT and for two allows the boat to self drain. This self drain feature will also come in handy if you happen to take some water in while fishing in any larger bodies of water. SINKs have their place but to be honest, for fishing most find the SOT to be a better option. The rigging options are much easier as well. Dang i should have read all the posts before commenting since you already said SOT it is ....lol
  24. I do think scotty makes a good product as far as quality goes without a doubt but given the tight quarters of a kayak the flexibility and ease of adjustment once mounted is what sold me on the ram mounts. Now if i was doing a lot of trolling or mounting to a baot I may lean towards a scotty as they feel a little more secure, not that the ram mount would pull off or anything,
  25. I agree that charcoal doused in lighter fluid, while very entertaining to use does impart flavor to the food. Once i started using the chimney starter i see no reason to not use it as it is quicker, safer and cheaper. That match light is some pretty cool stuff though.
