Taking pains to keep hooks sharp?
I am not at the level or @A-Jay but being a fly fisherman primarily sticky sharp hooks are important as are thinner shanked hooks that dull more quickly. I keep a small file to touch up hooks very frequently. For m conventional gear I should use the rubber bands but I haven't yet but maybe it will be a winter project for me.

Help me not get ripped off.....thoughts on a refit Jon boat I'm thinking of buying
I am by no means a boat expert but that boat with that hull shape and that deck looks like a recipe for a tippy experience. I'm also no way driving 3 hours for that boat. The work on the boat does look great though but seeing that open lid and wood makes me wonder because it doesn't look like marine grade to me but hard to tell by pictures.

Generally speaking, how tightly should wading boots fit?
Besides all the other advice given for boots not being snug one of the biggest is if they are snug or tight your feet will get colder faster as blood flow won't be as great. You want them to be comfortable and if you need larger boots then get them, you won't be disappointed.

Shallow River cranking
SPRO rkcrawler for me tha mjority of the time. I love to crank shallow rocky rivers and while i like rapala, SK etc...they don't last banging into the rocks like i throw but the SPRO last a little longer.

Book Recommendations
I would see if any of the local universities near you offer a fisheries course and ask if they offer a class for audit. Many do and it is for a significantly lower cost and in some cases free. You would then be able to get the information and learning without the worry of grades etc...

What makes you choose a body of water to fish?
proximity, time and species targeted along with how busy it may be.

super glue and baking soda
People have been using this in the fly tying world for a long time to fill in or smooth out cork bodies. it sands easily and is durable and takes paint well.

Anyone notice unique bite patterns?
I have this a lot on rivers and smallies

What do you drive?
I drive a mini cooper countryman ALL4s and tow my kayak trailer. I store my rods inside on transport and that is usually 8'+ fly rods.

Anyone notice unique bite patterns?
one of my best topwater days was in January, spotted bass, over a steep drop off that went from 30 to 6 feet or so. It is what keeps us wondering and trying new things I guess

My idea for tournaments
Seems like you are trying to solve a problem that doesn't really exist.

How often do you think large river smallmouth fall prey to shovel heads in deeper winter holes?
Flatheads and Blues do much more damage during the non winter months. Bass are not going to hit a wintering hole that has a predator in it or nearby as they will find new locations. Can they be eaten by them, sure but I would worry more about the warmer months. I know around here people were using smallies as bait as you can keep them under 14" and through some loophole they were permitted to do so.

My Problem With YouTube Fishing Videos...
I rarely if ever watch a video unless it is to tie a fly I can't find the pattern for online. I can get a lot more information out of reading something and much faster than I can in a video. Unfortunately videos are the way things are going so I guess I will have to adjust at some point.

Drop-shotting Flies?
Sure why not. Anything with rabbit would probably produce. I never tried it because I fly fish anyways.

Holiday lights/decor
The wife doesn't ask for much and Christmas is her thing. We will put up the yard decorations tomorrow and indoor stuff sunday most likely. She is superstitious so nothing goes up before thanksgiving and it all comes down new years day. Our front yard will have pretty much every square inch covered and there are always things she is like oh yeah I forgot I bought that in the sales after Christmas last year :). I don't mind and it is something she enjoys and we cna do as a family.

South Florida fishing: Jon boat or pedal kayak
Nott sure about that area and boat usage but a motorized kayak that you can also paddle well is better than any pedal kayak to me. You can also get one for around the same price or less than a pedal kayak in most cases.

Xmas Present Request Issues
I fish a lot of electric only lakes so I don't feel the need. I specifically bought it for one place I frequent that is a swampy type river and people hunt there and with the brush on the bank combined with the lower height of the river, in some places the only thing that is sticking out is that flag. I've also run into a few hunters out there who weren't real happy with me being out there so I want to make sure they can see me.

Xmas Present Request Issues
Visipole is nice if you think you need it, I use mine in a few places but not all the time. Drilling a hole in the kayak is no big deal and screw holes can be easily repaird as can larger holes too. Yak Attack leverlock is a great anchor trolley and i would definitley recommend. If you are anchoring in current more often than not, don't bother with the anchor trolley and get a chute from anchor wizar and mount it directly off the bow, you'll save yourself a lot of potential issues. Pedals would be a nice addition but if you already have the motor then why bother with pedals. Fish finder with side imaging would be high on my list if you fish lakes often.

The search for a specific Tequila.
That describes it exactly.

The search for a specific Tequila.
That six months of climbing and the mexican food was worth it. Climbing there is absolutely world class and the best I have done in the country

The search for a specific Tequila.
yup. Moved there with my ex who was in school at UTEP and I saved up so I could climb for as long as possible and she bailed after a year or so.
