  2. Wow...thanks you guys! Both of your explanations were really thourough. Im gonna bookmark this thread and the link in RW's post for future reference when buying new rods.
  3. I hear you guys talk a lot about rods with fast or extra fast tips, slow, moderate, ect. To be honest, Im a little lost on this subject. What does the rods action actually affect? Im sure that the different actions are better for different lures/presentation but I don't really know the difference. Any info is greatly apprecitaed. An example or two and what each action is best for would be great.
  4. Oh my god, I freaking hate those things! I don't know where they're getting in but once it warms up, there will be like 5 or 6 of those things in my house at any given time. I had one buzzing around my living room the other night while I was spooling up my new reel. Stupid thing wouldn't land. It just kept bouncing off the light bulbs in my ceiling fan. Plus they always land all over the screen on my back door and I have to flick them all off from the inside before I let my dog out. Bugs are the thing I hate most about spring and summer but like Rooster said, it means its almost fishing time.
  5. Ha! Slime rockets...I love it! As for the law, sounds stupid to me. Good thing you got out of that state when you did.
  6. X's 2. All the lakes near me are only really fishable from the dams and maybe 1 or 2 other places along the bank. Id kill for a chance to be able to fish all that unaccessalbe water from a boat. Congrats on your first fish of the year!

    Welcome to BR!
  8. X's 2. Thought so but the OP made me stop and think to myself "wait....really?". So I went to the BPS website and I checked a couple brands that I use. Strike King and Bandit both make them with/without rattles so Im sure the other companies do too.
  9. Rapalas are great but kind of pricey. I like the Strike King Bitsy Minnow for trout. Its basically a tiny 1/8oz version of a KVD 1.5 and they're only like $3.50 at Wal Mart.
  10. Amen to that brother. I grew up in Dundalk and moved to the Eastern Shore last year. Now when I go back to visit my parents, I just can't wait to get back on my side of the bay bridge. Planning on going out Sunday morning. Ive heard a couple people say they've had luck with squarebills but I dunno. The water still seems pretty cold. Looking forward to some warmer temps. I can't wait for some sweet topwater action!

I mostly use 4/0 EWG hooks but occasionally Ill use some standard offset hooks. I also have some 5/0 keel weighted hooks for the rage rig. My thing is I need to work on what hooks are best for which baits/presentations.
  12. Good job buddy...keep em coming!
  13. Congrats on the new boat and a good trip! Looking forward to seeing the pic.
  14. I meant to say improved clinch. Its been my go to knot for all my mono fishing.
  15. Good to know. Im still gonna try and get proficient with other knots but Im glad I can fall back on the clinch if Im getting frustrated or Im in a hurry. I just always heard people pushing the palomar for braid so I suppose it made me think the clinch wouldn't work for it.
  16. Welcome to BR!
  17. Thanks for the input everyone. Im pretty sure I got the Palomar down and Im gonna work on the a few others.
  18. Good idea on the Berkley Amp rod. I definitly don't want to spend a lot of money until I get a little more proficient with a baitcaster and am sure I like it. So with the braid your saying that I could take the line off and then re-spool the same line? Cuz I know if I tried that with mono Id have a huge tangled mess.
  19. So my little brother just gave me my first baitcasting reel (Pfluger Templar) today. It was already spooled with some sort of braid and I have no expierience with either of these. I have a handful of rods but they're all spinning rods. Could I put a baitcaster on one of these or would I run into complications? If not, what are the differences between spinning and baitcasting rods. Also Ive heard you guys mention using mono backing when spooling braid and if I know my brother, he probably didn't bother. If he didn't what kind of consequences could I be looking at and what do you recomend?
  20. Thats what Ive been doing for the last hour. Im pretty sure I got the hang of the Palomar now and I got the braid a couple times. Im just gonna keep at. Nows the time to learn. Don't wanna be playing around with it at the lake and wasting valuble fishing time. For the braid not, what part do you pull to tighten it? I think thats whats messing me up on that one.
  21. Right on. And I always wet my knots. A little lubrication is never a bad thing.
  22. Nice...sounds like an awesome trip!
  23. The creek Ive been fishing for trout in doesn't have many open spots along the bank and theres a huge tree with branches reaching down into the water right in the center of where Im always trying to fish. You call your tree 'the claimer'....well the same could be said about this one. Its taken a good many of my spinners and a lot of plastic worms and weights during the summer when Im going after bass. Everytime I go there I see new lures hanging off of it and its always polka-dotted with bits of neon powerbait. Aside from the tree, all along the banks on either side of it are logs and brush piles. Its not so bad if its just me but if my girlfriend comes with me, I have to put my rod down every 10 or 15 minutes to try and pull a lure out of a tree. Its snaggy as all hell but Ive caught some decent trout out of there. I mean, hey, if your not getting snagged, your not fishing in the right place. You can see the tree Im talking about in the top left of the first pic.
