  1. Ill tie on a jig every now and then and I never catch anything either. But so many people on here swear by them that I keep feeling like they have to work and I can't bring myelf to not fish them. Im gonna try and get more into jigs this year. Planning on starting with a swim jig and working my way down to the slower bottom contact ones. Slow fishing isn't exactly my preference or specialty.

  5. When I was a little kid I'd go crabbing with my dad on the Magothy River (off the Chesapeake) and my mom would pack ham and cheese sandwhiches. I don't really even like ham and cheese but for some reason, after sitting in a plastic bag for 3 or 4 hours in the sun and and condensating all in the ziplock, it tasted good. Go figure. Now that Im older (and boatless) Im fishing from and bank and my trips usually only last a few hours. As such, I usually just grab something to eat on the way. Depending on where Im going and time of day it's either Sausage Egg and Cheese McGriddle value meal or Fillet-o-Fish value meal from McDonalds or Ill hit the pit beef place and either get a Scrapple Egg and Cheese on white toast with hasbrowns or a Pit Turkey Sandwhich and Fries.

  7. X's 2 on the inline spinners and the awesome Disney Bag!
  8. The video won't play. It says its restricted on certain sites. That being said, I saw a show on Animal Planet where the host and a guide fished the Devils River from kayaks. They went through some rapids, pulled a hook out of the guides ankle, and caught some chunky bass. Beautiful river like you said and some nice fish too.
  9. If your having trouble with your knots, this site here has little animations for pretty much every knot used for fishing. It really helped me out when I first started. http://www.animatedknots.com/indexfishing.php?LogoImage=LogoGrog.jpg&Website=www.animatedknots.com
  10. Nice. Still wating on my first bass of 2013. Going out Thursday if the weathers good. Im gonna make sure I bring my trout gear too though just in case. Don't wanna beat a dead horse all day trying to make the bass bite.

  12. Just went to the Rapala website and watched the little demo videos. I like the look of it and if I happen to come across it in the local bait shop or Wal Mart or something, Ill probably pick one up. But Im not rushing to place an internet order or driving an hour and a half to BPS anytime soon. As for revolutionizing fishing....eh....who knows. Maybe. Maybe not. I could be wrong but I kind of feel like I can get similar erratic action from my crankbaits with moving the rod tip back and worth and giving little pops and twitches on my retrieve.
  13. Im still new at this and have only fished small lakes and creeks. This guy at my work that I talk fishing with says thats rivers are a whole different ballgame. I have a few near me so maybe Ill try a couple out this year and see for myself. I'd be fishing from the shore though and it seems to me river fishing would be better with a boat. But then again, I guess so would lake fishing.
  14. Im sorry to hear that man. We had to have my girlfriends dog put down a few years ago. It's definitly a tough expierience. I was pretty tore up for a couple days and I only knew him for 3 or 4 years. She had him for 12 so I can only imagine how she felt. And our other dog was really upset and mopey for a few months. Those 2 were the best of friends since he was a puppy and then all of a sudden hes just not there. Felt really bad for him. Heres a picture. His name was Emmitt but I always called him Porkchop cuz he was an old fat dog.
  15. My brother used to have a dog that was a mix of German Shepherd, Rotweiler, Boxer, and Chow. That dog was a beast. He was real stocky and all muscle. Im talking all thick thick solid muscle. I can honestly say I never saw that dog sleep. He literally never sat still and was constantly running around. He was real friendly too and always wanted to play/wrestle around with me but he always played too rough and I'd end up getting hurt.
  16. X's 2 and its one of the most exciting ways to fish. I don't own a boat so I have no choice but to fish from the bank. For covering water I throw crankbaits. Mostly squarebills since my lakes are really shallow. Im certain a spinnerbait would work just as well but for some reason Ive never gotten a bite on a spinnerbait. This is gonna be the year though.
  17. Nice man....that thing is chunky!
  18. So its seems like its more of a personal preference for most then except on the rare occassion where hooks have been broken/bent. I would be pretty suprised if there was anything of hook-straitening size in the lakes I fish. Maybe I just jinxed myself but I haven't had a problem so I think Im sticking with the stock hooks for now.
  19. What size fish are you guys talking when they're bending your hooks? Just curious.
  20. Basically the situation is that I had 2 un-useable lures. One SK Bitsy Minnow with a broken bill and a Rapala Countdown Minnow that I found with rusted out hooks and splitrings. What I did was put the Bitsy Minnow hooks (size 14) on the Countdown just so there was something on there and I could use it. I think the Countdowns hooks were origianally a size 12. Do you think I'd be able to hook any bass with a treble hook that small or would I be better off keeping this lure in my trout box?
  21. Ive been hearing a lot of you guys saying you don't like the standard hooks on the KVD squarebills. Just wondering what you feel is so bad about them. I can honestly say that every time a fish has hit one of my 1.5's Ive landed it and never had a problem with hooking up or a fish throwing the bait. Granted I haven't been fishing nearly as long as most of you nor am I reeling in anything much bigger than 3 pounds tops. Any oppinions?
  22. I fall asleep every night thinking about fishing and then usually dream about fishing. Even when I dream about other stuff, fishing is usually incorporated. I had a zombie apocolypse dream the other night. I was fishing this little creek and had just hooked into one when a hoarde of zombies came up on me. I wanted to run but wouldn't let the fish go.
  23. I have a 5 year old Austrailian Shepherd named Claudio. I know I know....weird name. My girlfriends kid named him after the lead singer of this band I hate (Coheed and Cambria). He was originally calling the dog Coheed and I was like no....im sorry but no...thats not happening. So Claudio was the compromise we came to. It was around Christmas 5 years ago. I had been living at my girlfriends house for about a month of so. We pull into the driveway one night and sitting on the patio is this dog in a crate with a note on it. Apparently her alcoholic abusive ex-boyfriend who she has a No-Contact order against bought it for her in an attepmt to win her back. She didn't want to keep him because of where he came from but I wouldn't let her get rid of him. He was kind of a monster when he was little. He got into a lot of trouble including eating a brand new couch. After that he was almost out the door but I took him, moved in with my grandma for a few weeks and worked with him. After a while he was as good as gold. Weird as hell, but a good dog. For example, he can't walk properly on non-carpeted floors. If he gets on hardwood or tile of something, he always walks backwards with slow cautious steps and will try and push himself up against a wall or a table or something. And hes gets scared of the dumbest things. It was really windy last week and there was a trash can lid in our backyard. When we tried to let him out, he just sat on the porch for 10 minutes staring at it and trembling and would go out til I picked it up. If someone knocks on the door they hear this big ferocious bark but hes the biggest sissy you'll ever meet. I swear owning this dog is like being the parent of a special needs child but I wouldn't trade him for anything in the world.
