  1. Ha! I was gonna say the exact same thing. You beat me to it. Awesome fish as usual, Big O!
  2. http://www.animatedknots.com/indexfishing.php?LogoImage=LogoGrog.jpg&Website=www.animatedknots.com That site has animations of knots being tied. Really helped me out when I started.
  3. So I just picked up a pack of Zoom Superflukes in white pearl. Haven't had much luck with anything else recently so I figured I'd give them a try. Only thing is Ive never fished them before. Whats the best way to retrieve them to get the best action out of them? Im assuming erratic jerks and twitches instead of a steady retrieve. I was also thinking about possilby using a double fluke rig. Any oppinions on that this time of year? I don't know the exact water temp but Im sure its getting pretty cold. Planning on going out early in the morning. Any tips on this bait would be greatly appreciated.
  4. Thats what I figured. Its just a matter of getting my girlfriend to let me put fish eggs in the fridge.
  5. Welcome to the forum! You can learn a lot here.
  6. Thats a cool idea JFrancho. Ill keep that in mind.
  7. Welcome to BR!
  8. That one is really cool. I really like that. Good thing I don't have it cuz I probablly couldn't resist trying it out and knowing me I'd probally lose it
  9. Im just going to echo pretty much what every one else said. First of all make sure your knot is right. If you wet the knot before pulling it tight, not only does it tighten better but it also reduces friction which can cause a weak spot in the line. Once tied, give the line a good pull or two. If its a bad knot it will often slip or come undone. Check your line for fraying every few casts, especially if your dragging through heavy cover. If your feeling comfortable with the knot, then check the guides/spool/bail arm for knicks or chips. If the line breaks and is still curly at the end, it was the knot. If its a clean break, it was probably frayed.
  10. I see what your saying. A couple of sketchy guys ignoring the law and trying to fill their freezer. I was just saying that netting a bunch of fish at a time doesn't seem nearly as fun as fighting individual fish one by one. But like you said, they're fishing for food, not fun.
  11. Fishing with a net? Thats weak man. Besides being illegal, wheres the fun in that? I would have filed a report too. Ya never know. Maybe if they get enough reports about these guys they'll end up looking into it. Somebody might even get a liscence plate number or something.
  12. Congrats man...some good looking fish there!
  13. Hello and welcome!
  14. Thanks for the all the input guys. Im definitly gonna go with a shorter rod. Theres a lot of cover on both sides of the stream and most of the spots where you can get down to the water have overhanging tree branches.
  15. Im trying to keep it under $100 if possible. I really don't even have the money for a new rod. Im kinda hoping for a boatload of BPS giftcards this Christmas.
  16. I actually thought that was a typo when he said 'ned rig'. Go figure. Seems like it would catch a lot of fish. I might have to pick up some jig heads and give this a try. http://everything-smallmouth.com/ned-rig-fishing/
  17. One of the best parts for me is being out there at sunrise. You said it just right, Jake. The sunrise and the fog on the water. Simply beautiful. You can't beat that with a stick. Aside from that, feeling that thump or seeing my line start to swim off to one side and then the fight that ensues after. Catching one fish is great. But when you catch another and another and you can say 'ok...now I got the pattern'. Thats a good feeling to know that you've figured them out for the day. Ill go to bed that night thinking about the fish I caught and then dream about catching some more. I also like it when I go to work and tell people that I went fishing that morning and they go "it's almost winter. what are you going to catch when its this cold out!?' and I can just smile, break out my phone and show them the pictures.
  18. That burger sounds awesome man. And bacon makes everything better. Thats the motto that I live by. For a while there I was on a kick where I was ordering b.l.t.'s with extra bacon everyday for lunch from the delivery place up the street.. Don't know why but the bacon was the best Ive had and their lettuce and tomatoes were always perfectly fresh. The quality of produce in most places gets worse as its get colder and the stuff is no longer in season but this place was always on point. It made all the difference.
  19. I love everything about Christmas. The food, the decorations, and especially the presents. Money's tight this year though so its gonna have to be a thrifty Christmas. I know my girlfriend isn't expecting much but Ill do what I can. No kids but I like buying for my dog. If we wrap up a squeak toy and show him that it squeaks he'll tear the paper off himself. It's pretty funny.
  20. Welcome to Bass Resource. Even though its a bass site, there are a lot of salt water guys that post in the 'Other Fish Species' forum.
  21. I was leaning more towards spinning gear. I don't think Ive ever even seen a fly rod in person before. I wouldn't even know how to use it.
  22. Nice looking fish. Bet it was a heck of a fight on a light rod.
  23. And I suppose I should mention that we're talking about stocked trout in a shallow creek/stream. Not monsters from Lake Eerie of anything.
  24. Im thinking about buying a rod just for trout. Im not looking for brands or anything. Just what power rod you think would be best. I was thinking ultralight but when I fish for trout Im usually throwing inline spinners and I often hook into some nice size pickerel. I don't mind a good fish-fight but I wasn't sure if the rod would take it. Opinions?
  25. This is the first Ive heard of them. Just searched 'fishing snake' on the BPS website and got 2 results. Theres a 16 inch worm that has a snake-like look to it made by BPS and then there was one by Luck-E-Strike that was an 11 inch ribbontail worm. I like the look of the 16 inch one but it seems kind of big for the waters that I fish. Thinking Im gonna try some 10 inch Anacondas first and see how I do with them.
