  1. Ive bought about 5 or 6 spinnerbaits since I started fishing this past summer. Got a couple homemade ones from the local bait shop and a couple dollar ones from Wal Mart. Never got a bite on any of them. Not sure if its the bait or just me. Don't wanna go off topic here but dude, thats messed up. When I was in Boy Scouts they taught us to push the barb the rest of the way through the skin and then clip it off. That way you can pull the rest out without it tearing you up. But I dunno. Maybe yours was in deeper or at a weird angle or something.
  2. Ugh! What a day! So I took my girlfriend fishing with me Thursday morning. We started out on a small bridge She likes crankbaits but is still learning and doesn't cast very accurately. So in about 30 minutes, she loses 2 KVD squarebills. I honestly don't even know how she managed it. If she was casting due north, the bait went due east. Like 90 degrees to where she was trying to cast and into the weedline surrounding the lake. I really gotta work with her on her accuracy. So I decide to go down the road to the dam. Its a more open area and less likely to end up snagged due to a bad cast. So i tie another squarebill on for her, get her set up in a good spot and move around the dam a bit to another spot. When I look back, shes walking across the road to the shallow creek on the other side. Fearing that shes going to be dragging the bottom and getting another crank snagged, I grab my stuff and run over there to tell her not to fish that bait in water that shallow. When I get to her, I see a Rapala crankbait just sitting there on the ground. Hooks really aren't even rusted. Ok. Free crankbait. The days starting to look a little better. So I tie a roostertail on each of our rods and we fish the creek. I hooked up a really fat rainbow trout and a small largemouth and she got a pickerel. Her second fish ever and she complained about it cuz it wasn't a bass. I tried to explain that catching something is better than nothing and that pickerel was a fun/good fighting fish. The thing was a real pain too cuz the hook was way back in its mouth and hooked on the top and bottom, essentially holding the mouth shut so I had myself a good old time trying to get the hook out. I mean, my pliers are only so long. After she got her pickerel, she got the roostertail stuck in a tree. Broke it off and she says she wants to go back to the dam. So we go over to the dam again and I tie on some spinnerbaits. No luck there so after a while, she says lets go back to the creek for a while and call it a day. Back to the creek we go and the roostertail is just hanging there mocking me, laughing at me. So I start casting at it and actually get a direct hit. It drops in the water and the line tangles with my spinnerbait so I got my roostertail back. Thinking "this roostertail must be lucky", I tie it on and 3 casts later, its snagged on the bottom and broke off. Tired of losing expensive lures, I decide to go with a worm this time. Fished a bit longer with no luck and then my girlfriends spinnerbait ends up in the top of a tree. Not an overhanging branch. The top. Like 25 feet in the air. At this point, Ive had it. Im done. Broke it off, and headed for the car. Now Ive found lures here the past couple of trips since Hurricane Sandy stirred everything up so Im really on the lookout and I spot what I could swear was a crankbait floating at the waters edge. Not even bothering to put my rod down I scramble down this steep 7 foot bank. Theres 5 feet of grass, then 2 feet of mud, then water. Nowhere to stand at the bottom. Next thing I know, Im knee deep in freezing water, smeared up to my waist with mud, and it turns out to be a freaking bobber. Needless to say I felt pretty stupid. And its not even like I was able to get right back out. It was muddy and steep and I was still holding my rod so I only had the use of one hand. Id get 3 feet up and kept sliding back down. At least my girlfriend got a good laugh out of it and kept laughing all the way home. To sum it all up, about $20 worth of lures lost, $6 worth of lures found, 1 trout for dinner, and I got to go for a swim. Ive definitly had better days.
  3. Good job man. Ive been catching a lot of fish about that size this fall as well. But I take pictures of my small ones too.
  4. Congrats man...nice fish!

  8. That sucks guys. Sorry to hear about all the morons out there. Most people around my lake are pretty courteous and respect your space.
  9. Im into military shows as well but I missed this one. As far as whether or not it happened, I believe it did. But I know there are people out there that think the government lies about everything (im not saying that they don't) and they see conspiracies/cover ups everywhere. Also I saw an article about members of Seal Team 6 getting in trouble for working with the developers of the new Medal of Honor videogame. Just thought Id mention that while we were on the topic.
  10. I mostly fish soft plastics or shallow/squarebill crankbaits. Seems like I catch more on cranks than I do on worms so I guess if I have to pick one, Ill say cranks.
  11. Went out this morning and didn't catch much. Got a little 8 inch largemouth. But I also ended up retrieving a roostertrail that I got stuck in a tree 2 days ago and I found 2 Rappala cranks. They need new hooks but otherwise they look ok to me. I tried to compare them to some on the BPS website and Im pretty sure the first one is a Rappala X-rap Shad but Im not sure about the second one. Anyone know what it is? Its about 4 inches long and metal with no rattle. It says ssr-9 on the lip.
  12. Im used to catching pickerel when Im fishing. It was the trout that really made my day being that they were my first. Thinking I might switch over to trout for the colder months once the bass slow down and stop hitting my cranks. I don't think I have the patience for super slow winter worm fishing.
  13. I think Ive only seen 1 Bond movie and maybe bits and pieces of 1 or 2 more. Id really like to see them all. Maybe buy the boxset if there is one. The new one looks good. Id like to see it in theaters but Ill probably procrastinate and end up waiting til its 'on demand'. X's 2. I hate having to sit next to people or trying to watch a movie while a bunch of idiot kids are making a ruckus. If I go to the movies, I make it a point to go at like noon on a Monday.
  14. I deliver pizzas. Everytime I take a delivery, I get to sit in my car and listen to music. Its almost like I get to take 20 minute breaks all night long. Plus free pizza is never a bad thing. Also since I always work like 5 to close, I can sleep during the day, go to work in the evening, and then stay up all night and fish for a few hours every morning.
  15. As a fat kid, that sounds awesome. And just my luck, they're about to build a new chic-fil-a near me. Ill have to give them a try.

  18. Thats a tough one. Ive never caught a smallie before and a 7lber would be awesome. But then again, so would a 12lb largemouth. Im gonna say largemouth cuz a 12lber would be a state record. Smallmouth record is 8.4lbs.
  19. Went out to my local lake for about 3 hours this morning just before sunrise. Started out on the dam using a black/red worm with no luck. Got snagged and broke off so I tied on a 1/4 ounce white roostertail and went down to the creek below the dam. Caught a brown and a rainbow trout (both personal firsts) and a good size pickerel. Hooked another pick but he threw the hook. Then I ended getting caught in a tree branch over-hanging the creek and got broke off again so I decided to call it quits at that spot and move around the lake to this small bridge. I tied on a KVD squarebill in tennessee shad and finished out the day with 2 largemouth. The smaller one didn't put up any kind of fight at all til he was about 5ft away from me. I thought I was just dragging a clump of weeds.

  24. Thats a funny story. I try to be a good neighbor. Id rather keep to myself but Ill make small talk if Im outside the same time one of my neighbors is and I try to keep my yard and house in good repair so it doens't make the neighborhood look trashy. Ive definitly had some bad ones though. When I still lived with my parents, the people next door let their kids do whatever they wanted with no disiplinary actions. We ened up with our cars keyed, chocolate cake thrown in our swimming pool, and Papa Johns stopped deliverying to us because they kept ordering pizzas to our house. The place I lived before I moved where I am now was a basement apartment under a 2 story townhome. The people that lived above us basically ran/stomped around their house constantly. Sounded like a herd of elephants running down their steps at 3 in the morning. Glad im out of there.
