  1. Hello and welcome!
  2. How much would something like that run me? The camera Im using now is from like 97 and Im in need of a new one but I also got bills to pay, ya know?
  3. You hit the nail right on the head there. Still working on that one. Thanks for all the tips guys. Barrell swivel sounds like a great idea. Ill try that and a lighter weight. Also gonna make sure my hook points are buried in the plastics properly for my t-rigs. If I do get snagged Ill see how that 'bowstring' method works for me.
  4. No boat. Fishing from the shore. Ive seen those lure retrieval things on different websites and was always curious if/how they worked. Anyone ever use one?
  5. So I got these 5 inch twin tail grubs and I was wondering if they'd be a good trailer for a spinnerbait. Also should I use a trailer hook or could I just put it right on the spinnerbait hook?
  6. Been getting snagged a lot and losing several hooks, worms, and some other more expensive lures as well. It seems kind of unavoidable since the bass are usually around structure. If I cast near brush piles, logs, or downed trees, Im gonna get snagged sometimes. I can live with that. But sometimes Ill lose 4 or 5 hooks/worms in a couple hours. How often do you guys usually get snagged? And whats the best way to try and free a snag? Someone told me to tighten the drag and pull strait back. It will either pull free or the line will break. This is what Ive been doing but Im thinking its probably bad for the reel/drag system. Any advice?
  7. I put him back after the photos. Definitly didn't expect them to be that slimy.
  8. Hello. Welcome to BR!
  9. Went to a new lake today. Hadn't been there for 5 minutes when I caught this guy. Felt a couple light taps and then my bait started to swim away to the right. Set that hook and let me tell you this fish was a fighter. I know some of you don't like pickerel but it was my first so I was excited. Turned out to be the only fish of the day but thats better than being skunked.
  10. X2. Started fishing in July and my biggest ones only been 18 or so.
  11. So are the bass naturally in such a small body of water or are they stocked? I ask cuz the MD state record largemouth came from a farm pond. If so, someone could just stock their small pond, leave the fish alone for several years, and then boom, record size fish. Doesn't it seem kind of unfair that they should count for state records? Maybe its just me.
  12. I hear a lot of people on here talking about fishing farm ponds. I was just wondering, what exactly is a farm pond? Is it a pond on someone's farm? Like behind someones corn field or old barn? Or is it a pond where fish are farmed? Can anyone just go and fish them or do you have to get permission/pay a fee? Whats the deal?
  13. Thanks CoBass. I think I have a cast master spoon. Might try the live bait too.
  14. Thanks for the tips guys. Sounds like the fish jumping probably aren't trout but I know they are in there. DNR stocks them every year. Just google searched trout stocking in the lake and found out that they're stocked below the dam so that just leaves the shallow stream. Ill walk down it a little ways and see if I can't find some deeper areas. Ill pick up an inline spinner or 2 next time I go to the tackle shop. Any other suggestions for lures?
  15. Hey guys. I've got some trout questions. First of all, are they more active than bass in the colder months? Would they be easier to catch once the bass get all lethargic? Secondly, what kind/size lures are best to catch them? And lastly where would they be? Ive seen trout (at least im pretty sure they're trout) jumping but they seem like they're usually out in the middle of the lake where it is more or less open water. The depth for the most part is a constant 7 feet. The lake Im fishing has a small dam with tall weeds all around the edge of the lake. Also below the dam it becomes a small stream about 30 feet wide and no more than 2 or 3 feet deep with undercut banks and tree limbs/roots growing down into the water. The only shore fishing spots that are really available are from a small bridge, the dam, and the shallow stream I mentioned.
  16. Realy enojyed reading all the responses. Sounds like most of you have some good shops. Thinking maybe Ill try tackle warehouse. That $5 2-day shipping sounds pretty sweet.
  17. That could very well be. Im still new to this and I'd much rather catch something small than nothing. Maybe my oppinion will change when I start to catch fish more consistenly.
  18. For me its usually about 30 min or so. Although sometimes just when Im thinking about changing up a bait, Ill get a bite and then end up fishing it for another 30 min (often with no luck). I only have 1 rod so it gets kind of irritating tieing on bait after bait.
  19. Awesome fish. Ive seen trout in the lakes I fish but nothing like that.
  20. Welcome to BR!
  21. Welcome. Im in the same boat as you are. Ive only been fishing since July. Been asking lots of questions and reading a ton of articles. Ive learned a lot here but feel like Ive only scratched the surface.
  22. Hello. Welcome to BR!
  23. I know im probably just weird but I've always casted and reeled both with my right hand. It just doesn't feel right reeling or casting with my left. Then again, I was raised polish hillbilly so it could just be that.
  24. Theres this bait shop about 2 miles from my house and Ive been in there about 3 or 4 times so far. It's small and they dont have the biggest selection but its convenient because it so close to my house and the lake. The only thing is every time Im in there I feel like they're really watching me hard. Like they're keeping an eye on me so I don't steal anything. Its actually kind of uncomfortable. Seems like if Im in there for more than a couple of minutes, they'll stop what they are doing and come all the way across the store to do something where they can see me. Its not like they come over and ask if i need help finding anything. They just watch me. I mean, I know Im probably 15-20 years younger than most of the people that come in there and maybe that sets off red flags to them. I try and make small talk with the people running the place but they all seem kind of cold and distant. The next nearest shop I know of is about 30 min from my house and 45 from the lake. I wish there was a BPS arond here. The nearest one is about an hour and a half. Ive only been in there once and I hadn't started fishing at the time. So I guess Im stuck with this shop unless I wanna order online, pay for the shipping, and then wait a week for the package. Whats your bait shop like? Anyone else have experiences like this?
