  1. Don't really know what they are but what the heck, give em a try. Can't hurt. Maybe they'll land you that 10lber.
  2. How do you guys feel about red hooks? The main reason I ask is cuz I recently found a couple of crankbaits and the hooks/split rings were rusted away. Im planning on replacing the them but I was wondering if the red hooks increase strikes or is it all just for show? Also what size hooks/split rings do you think I should use?
  3. Hello and welcome to the forum. Im still fairly new bass fishing as well and there are many others here that are much more knowledgeable than I am so Im not sure how much help I can be but Ill offer my 2 cents. First of all it sounds like you have enough gear to make a good start. I would also suggest that you pick up a pack of senkos or some senko imitaion like 'Yum' Dingers. Apparently they drive bass crazy. There are a lot of people that swear by them. I don't personally fish them much but have caught fish on them in the past. Fish near cover like lily pads, weedlines, undercut banks, brushpiles, downed trees, large rocks and boat docks as well as lake structure like channels, holes, underwater humps, points and dropoffs. Ive heard that there is usually good fishing near dams so if theres a dam in your lake, fish it. Since your in the Phillipines, Im assuming its a warmer climate most of the year. Therefore, bass will often be in the shallows so try fishing along the banks. If your not getting bit, try changing up your retrieve or switching to a different color. If your still not getting bit change to a different lure. Try to find what the bass are eating and match it. For example, if they're eating crawfish, try a jig with a craw trailer. If they're eating shad, try shad colored crankbaits. You can fish anytime but I have the most luck early in the morning and early in the evening. Think sunrise and sunset. You might also try talking to other people you see fishing. Ask them how they're doing and whats been working for them. In my expierience, most fisherman are more than happy to give you a bit of info to help you catch fish. I hope that helps. I googled your lakes and they're substantially bigger and deeper than what i usually fish so maybe someone whos used to fishing deep water can offer some better advice. If you have more specific questions, don't hesitate to post them on some of the other forums. The people here are great and have tons of helpful information to share. Good luck and be sure to post some pics when you get your bass!
  4. Starting a new one this year. Going fishing in the morning. Gonna have trout with thanksgiving dinner.
  5. Ha! Thats fantastic! Guy sounds like an idiot. You must have really threw him off his game for him to end up like that.
  6. Good lookin fish man. Bigger than anything Ive caught.
  7. I just started this past year also. I agree its a lot to take in at first but I feel like Im getting the hang of it thanks to all the information Ive gained from people here as well as hitting the water as much as possible. Like others have said, first you have to find the fish. Then I'd say find a technique or maybe just a couple that you like and get really confident with them. Once have them down, move on to something else. As far as lure color goes, the general standard is lighter/more natural colors for clear water/weather and darker colors for muddy water/overcast days. But thats not really set in stone so you can always experiment with it. What really gets me is rods and reels. Theres so many different specs and brands and models to compare. But yeah, basically just fish as much as you can and when your not fishing, ask questions here and read up on the articles. It will all make sense with time.
  8. Maybe he meant to say 14 inches instead of 14 pounds. I could see that. Either that or its a Catch and Release lake like Bassn Blvd
  9. Oh did it? I knew I should have paid more attention in history class. Too bad hes not around today. He could kill the kids from the 'Twilight' movies.
  10. Id say topwater (I like frogs) especially early in the morning. Also weightless senkos or T-rigged worms/soft plastics.
  11. Looks good. Glad they made a legitimate Lincoln movie. How bout that 'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter'? How could they have thought that was a good idea?
  12. X's 2. Works great. Glad you and kids had fun. Ive been fishing 1/4oz roostertails latley catching largemouth, pickerel, and trout in this little stream. I just wish it wasn't so snaggy.
  13. Thanks for the link and the tips, Fat Boy. Can't afford a boat right now so Im shorebound but it hasn't really been a problem for me. Thinking about going out Thursday morning if the weathers good. Maybe Ill try one of the new lakes.
  14. Thanks man. I actually think I heard that before. I usually don't bother though. Haven't got anything out of my lake bigger than about 3lbs and I just figure Im not too concerned about weight unless its a significantly larger fish. Like a new PB or something.
  15. Thought so. I try to support my local shops as often as I can, but if Im already in Wal Mart picking up other stuff, Ill check out the fishing section. They don't have much selection though. Mostly just 1 or 2 brands of each bait type. Like Rapala/Stike King for cranks or Zoom/Berkley for worms and not much color selection. Plus the people that work there definitly aren't too bright. I was in there the other night and an employee who was helping a customer came up to me and asked where to find the pad locks. I told them to check hardware maybe around the door knobs but cmon, why are you asking me? Your the one who works here.
  16. Sounds like something my girlfriend would try and drag me to. Forget that though. When we go out, I pick the movie. Im not wasting my money on crap. On a side note, my Uncle walked out of Fight Club. Hes like anti-violence, anti-swearing, anti-sex, anti-anything offensive and somehow my cousin and little brother talked him into taking them to see it when they were about 12 years old. I think they said he made them leave at the part where they had the guy in the bathroom and threatened to take his balls.
  17. I guess you are serious then. While I could never do something like that, I suppose its a job that needs to be done and I tip my hat to you, sir, and I wish you lots of luck with your side business.
  18. Good looking fish, Fat Boy. Its been all about crankbaits for me the past couple of months as well. Bass and pickerel have been crushing them. Do you know the name of the Eastern Shore lake and the county its in? Im in Caroline county and just started fishing this past summer and Im looking for some other good bodys of water that are close to me.
  19. Nice fish Big-O. No rain when I went out the other day but it was freezing. Had ice building up on my guides. Would have been nice if I had at least caught a fish for all my trouble.
  20. Ive personally never used a digital but I have a cheap manual (mechanical) one that I dont really care for. Its got a hook that you put the fish on and if the fish doesn't wanna cooperate, it ends up flopping off and onto the ground. Since thats bad for a fish that your about to release, I very rarely use it. If I had the money to spare, Id go for one of the lip grippers with the built in digital but sorry, I can't reccomend a brand or model.
  21. Just to clarify, when you guys say Wally World, your talking about the fishing section at Wal Mart right? Or is there actully a store called Wally World?
  22. That sucks they didn't catch anything but I gotta say I agree with your decision. Better the kid be a little disapointed then you lose an expensive rod and reel. Besides, hes still young. He's got plenty of fish ahead of him.
  23. No offense but that sounds kind of warped. Im trying to decide if your serious or not.
  24. All the lost baits and the unintentional swimming aside, I actually did. We both work 6 days a week and don't really get to spend as much time together as we'd like so its nice when we both get the same day off and get to go out and do something.
