  1. Hello and welcome. Theres definitly a wealth of knowledge and information here that even an expierienced angler can learn from.
  2. Go to TW and search for Mann's Depth Plus Series. The have 20+ and 30+ but I didn't see 40+. Ive never fished these. Just googled 'crankbaits 25 feet'
  3. I hate getting my haircut. I never really know what to tell them I want. Usually I just let it grow until I can't stand it any longer and then just end up going to a Great Clips or Hair Cuttery. Used to go to this girl who knew just how I liked it but I moved and its too far to drive for a haircut. Sucks. I could actually use one right now but I just dont wanna.
  4. Hello and welcome to Bass Resource!
  5. Thanks for the input guys. I don't often bother with setting with a scale. I usually just do it by hand/feel. So basically it sounds like your saying that I can keep it fairly tight and not have a problem. What about when Im not fishing? Im assuming loosening the drag when not using my rod is better for the drag system.
  6. So Im sort of unclear about the use of drag. Ive been told to set it to 1/4 of the # test line Im using. But when a fish takes my lure, it starts to peel off line and as I reel, it seems like Im not getting anywhere. Theres a lot of thick weedlines and cover around where Im fishing and I don't want the fish to get into the cover and wrapped around something so whenever a fish hits, I almost always crank up my drag and then pull the fish in. That being the case, what is the point of setting the drag in the first place if Im just going to tighten it up? Maybe to keep a big fish from breaking the line? But I have yet to see or hear of anything bigger than 3 or 4 pounds coming out of my local lake. I souldn't have to worry about a 3 pound fish breaking 10 pound line right? I guess what Im looking for is an explanation of what to do once a fish starts taking line. Do you just let it take line, do you reel against the drag, do you tighten down on it right away? Im doing fine catching/landing fish but I wanna make sure I know how to use my equipment properly.
  7. When its windy, I try to fish with the wind at my back. That way Im casting with the wind rather than against it. Also I try and fish heavier lures. Usually cranks or spinnerbaits (don't really care for jigs much but they would be great for casting as well). In my experience, its kind of hard to fish T-rigs when its windy cuz the wind keeps blowing the line and pulling the worm up near the surface. With cranks and spinners the water resistance on the lip or blades helps keep the bait down.
  8. Thats pretty interesting. I never even thought of that.
  9. Im thinking that im on your side, fishking. If it were me, I wouldn't be too upset about minor damage and probably let her dad fix it. But the thing is, Ive only ever owned used junkers that were already kinda beat up and realatively cheap. If I had a nice newer car, I'd want the work done by a professional. They said they'd take care of it and you even went out of your way to get a second estimate. I can see how they might be upset with you for not just letting her dad do it but the thing is, your the one with the messed up car. If anyone has a right to be upset, its you. If nothing else, you've gained some insight about your girlfriend and her family. Like SirSnookalot said, could be a blessing in disguise.
  10. Ive heard a couple different things. Theres supposed to be some sort of polar shift which will make the Earth's gravity reverse and also cause earthquakes, tidal waves, ect. Ive also heard that theres a sizeable asteroid thats supposed to pass close enough to us that it could enter into Earths gravitaional pull. Not sure what to think really. At least theres some science behind the apocolypse this time. Not like Y2K where nukes were supposed to launch themselves and planes were going to fall out of the sky and the banks and stock market were going to go to hell. Either way, Ill be at work. Whether hurricane, blizzard, or mayan apocalypse, people still want their pizza delivered. I dunno. Maybe Ill take the day off to be with my family just in case.
  11. Hey guys. What kind of luck have you been having with bass lately? The last few weeks Ive been able to catch trout and pickerel but the bass bite seems to have really died off. I usually fish cranks and spinnerbaits. Next time I go out Im gonna go with soft plastics and fish them real slow. How have you all been doing?
  12. I guess I still have to give the bows a little while then. All the ones Ive caught have been more on the grey side. Yeah. The one that I ate last night actually had a belly full of eggs. After I saw that, I kind of wished I had put her back. Gonna try and read up on trout spawning habits so I better know what to look for.
  13. When its 40 degrees out and you haven't caught a bass in weeks but still go out to the lake a couple days a week throwing every lure you have at every piece of cover you can find and even if you get skunked again, its ok cuz theres always tomorrow. When your rent, cable, and phone bills are all late but you still spend $25 on new lures just because the department store you were in had a fishing section. (maybe not the smartest thing to do) When your girlfriend wakes up at 530 am, wonders where you are, and then finds a note on the table that just says 'gone fishin'. When your girlfriend snags yet another $6 crankbait and you just force a smile, tie on another one for her and tell her 'Cast towards that brush pile. Theres bound to be a bass under there" even though you know shes probably just going to be snagged again 10 minutes later.
  14. I actually didn't notice too much of a difference between the brown and the rainbow but still quite tasty. As for not getting many shots at a brown, Maryland DNR stocks them in several bodies of water throughout the state. They stock rainbows, browns, and goldens (mostly rainbows). I only started trout fishing this past month and Ive caught 3 bows and 3 browns (put the first 2 back). It could be because they just stocked it a few weeks ago though.
  15. Caught another one today just as it got dark. Not as big as the first. This ones gonna be dinner. Got her cooking right now. Curious to see if browns taste the same as or different than rainbows.
  16. X's 2. Sounds like good advice. I haven't caught a bass in the last 3 or 4 times Ive been out. Been catching some nice trout though.
  17. WTG on the PB smallie! I too am still looking for my personal first.
  18. So if I decide to go the Powerbait route, whats the best size hook? Im sure my 4/0 worm hooks are much too large so Im gonna have to make a trip to the tackle shop.
  19. Don't toss your cranks in the garbage. Send em my way!
  20. Welcome to Bass Resource!
  21. Hello and welcome to the forum.
  22. Yeah, its not exactly made out of the best parts of the animal but man is it tasty. Try not to think about it while your eating it.
  23. Tell me about it. Hooked a pickerel a few weeks ago and he had 2 of the hooks in the top of his mouth and 1 in the bottom effectively hooking his mouth shut. It was a real pain to deal with even with pliers.
  24. Some good looking fish there. Congrats!
