I have used both and never had an issue with either for the most part besides one time where I was using an insert free VMC that frayed my line. Not using those weights anymore. All the other insert free ones haven't given me issues.

If you can deal with a arky head in 1/2 oz, TNT baits wadda bomb is a nice mop jig with a 5/0 hook and living rubber.

Maybe a bit north of me, I'm 2 hours away from the delta and motherlode lakes. Could be nice to live closer to clear lake or bullards.

I wouldn't go with a TE reel from shimano for swimbaits since there's no need for it. Although I'm die hard shimano I'd reccommend a luna 253. If you go the shimano route though, go with a 300 size and up, any smaller won't hold enough line.

In the last month I've bought 2 deps 250s, 3 roman made negotiator alumis, 4 deps 175s, a dobyns 867, 8 ima flit jerkbaits, 1 TT stubby, 1 8" BGC glidebait,1 hudd and a ton of line. Probably more stuff I'm missing

Mostly dobyns and a few megabass sticks with shimano and daiwa reels.

I use a champ 733 for spinnerbaits,buzzbaits, and chatterbaits. Tried many others in the dobyns champ series and settled on the 733. To me its the perfect rod. Its not too soft for 1/2 or 3/4 oz baits to me.

So far thats my favorite jerkbait, even over vision 110s and LC pointers. Ive had a couple 100+ fish days on the flit in the last month alone.

Try jig fishing on California reservoirs with a lot of rock in them. I lost 23 jigs last weekend and 4 pocket knocker lure retrievers. Not unexpected when fishing that lake though.

They are pretty popular, you just aren't looking hard enough. Lots of the guys I know and fish with use phenix rods.
