Lost 4 Lures In 3 Hrs.

Featured Replies

Two spinnerbaits, a diving crankbait, and a Texas-rigged craw....maybe I'll just fish soft plastics for a while since they are cheap haha.

If fishing from the bank I only throw plastics, we have so many weeds and pads down here. In the boat I can go in and get it out.

Bill Dance lure retriever works well at getting baits back.

This is the one I use and have lost maybe 3 hardbaits in 5 years? I throw LC and Megabass baits into brush piles so this thing paid for itself day one.

A lure retriever will pay for itself in no time. I use the weight and chain type (like the one above). With that said, losing baits is just part of fishing. Buy what works and throw it where the fish are. It is still cheaper than most other hobbies.

Dude, I can loose 3 lures in 3 casts, nothing to bragg about.

I have had many many days like that here in MN over my lifetime.  It's just one of the reasons I hate gators so much (pike).  Lure retriever doesn't help when it's no longer tied to your line!

Sounds like me yesterday, but I got you beat by one... Rule number 1 for bank fishing according to me: Buy cheap lures

The retrievers work great from the boat, not so good from the bank.   If the bank has thick weeds just stay with plastics.

Gotta pay to play!!!

I don't loose lures in the weeds, only in trees... In the the water and not

I lost $55 worth of lures fishing from the shore one day. A spro bbz1 8 inch, spro little john, strike king squarebill, and rattletrap. It was a rough day. All that and the only thing I caught was a catfish.;(

I got the bass pro one that looks like a fish with the chains. I attached it to a 25 foot retractable dog leash. It works like a charm. I pull out the line and lock it then retrieve the lure and retract the leash. It does not get tangled and is easy to deploy and store. I hope this helps.

That's nothing you should count your self lucky you lost cheap stuff. I if pop off a bait that even really mattered it was probably a $40 bill. I actually seen a thing with Mike Long saying on a good day fishing jigs he will loose 20! He is trying to get them in some super crazy places though I guess when hunting for a world record but it sounded silly to me. I am sure he doesn't really care though since he probably doesn't pay for them and get tons at a time but d**n. I would have to think he knows about knockers.

There are different types and if you learn to use them and get a decent technique you can get any thing back and its rare to not be able to free it. The only real time its a wash is if you break off end up way in some trees or snag super deep. Even then on a deep one and depending how much u care you can try and slide some weights down and see if it will knock it. Learn to use a knocker and it can change your life.

When I fished from the bank, I used 50lbs braid. When I got hung on something, I either drug it to the bank or straightened the hooks. I saved a lot of money with the braid.

I might check out braid.  I've always used mono.  Braid should up the sensitivity to strikes also I think.

During the summer, pike were getting me for about $20 worth of lures each fishing day; about twice what I was spending on gas for the boat!

For snagged lures, I bought a couple of plug knockers from the guy who sells them on evilBay.  I still need to get them rigged on a strong piece of line and a cheap reel or some kind of spool.

Tight lines,

Bob

It's gonna happen more than once especially from shore.

The worst day I've had I lost a couple of Pointer minnows and a rapala product. Another guide friend of mine had guys in his boat guys lose  eight Rapalas in the first hour of a full day float trip. Luckily there is a tackle shop about a mile from the start of that float.  They stocked up with $150 more in lures then spent the rest of the day losing them too!

Those lure savers really work. These rings that connect the lure to the hook. They come in different release rates. You only lose the hook.

On a day when the jig bite is on, I'm expected to lose at least half a dozen almost every time. That's why I have to carry a few hundred of them with me at all times  :eyebrows:

My record is 27 jigs lost in a single day which almost made a dent in what I carry.

Some times I'll go weeks without loosing a single thing, now that's some to brag about!

Loosing them...that's easy!  ;)
