Snakehead caught in Marumscro Lake in Woodbridge, VA
Yeah, we'll have to agree to disagree...

Cicada Hatch Starting Soon...
Cool! I love those little guys, I don't know why. I didn't know another brood was hatching. My daughter will be excited, we had a ball catching them.

Has anyone tried this lure...
I have one, but haven't tried it yet. My buddy likes them, but I've never seen him catch anything on one, and we go fishing all the time...

Could, might, maybe... See what I wrote above... So you are for culling crappies, sunfish and snakeheads. And small bass. I don't think that is the way to go. It goes against survival of the fittest, and ultimately weakens the bass species rather than strengthening it. I was just using the peacock as a general example. I didn't mean that they were introduced in VA... But they were in FL, along with hundreds of others (Oscars, Ciclids, Peacocks, Snakeheads, Tilapia, and a ton of others). It hasn't hurt the bassing in FL, from what I've read. By the same measure, I don't think a single introduction here in VA will affect LMB. As I said before, the only thing we can do is wait and see. You can go about it your way, and kill a fish based on some hype, or leave it alone. I will only kill it if I intend to eat it... And I won't eat anything out of the Potomac...

I know, thank you for pointing that out. I happened to read further, though, and it also says these are possibilities, and they (the officials) don't know if this is the case or not. There are a lot of maybes, might bes, and could bes, but no definite statements. Snakeheads are almost identical to Bowfins in predation, habitat, and other aspects... Bowfins have not impact on Bass. It seems that if anything, the snakeheads would compete with bowfins. I'm still not convinced of the doom and gloom end of bass everywhere situation as it's been presented, and many have seemed to swallow hook line and sinker (pun intended). Just like I have trouble with global warming, people that say George Bush is responsible for 9-11, and folks that believe the Masons are devil worshiping world controlling masterminds... Conspiracy theories and end of the world scenarios stink, and the snakehead threat sounds a lot like a conspiracy theory to me.

Or peacock bass. Another indigenous critter that hasdone no harm despite the hype. By the way, the LMB and the SMB are non indigenous to most of the waters we fish and catch them in. What harm have they done? None.

I don't buy it, sorry. I think they'll find a niche and it won't be a problem. A river is not a closed system like most ponds are. I think the danger is overblown. I guess only time will tell.

I don't see why snakeheads are a huge problem, but bowfin, an extremely similar fish in just about every way is not... I am still waiting to catch one. I can't wait... I dunno if I'll kill it...

What is the best spinnerbait??
I agree. I have caught as many fish with the Walmart $1 bait as the $6 Terminator. Terminator seems to have the biggest following, and some other good names are Strike King's Premium Spinnerbait, and Stan Sloan's Zorro Aggravater. Booyah is OK. As bad as Matzuo cranks suck, their spinnerbaits are top notch.
-
Which of these two would you suggest
The bottom one is cooler, I like the blue head, but they are very similar. The Megabait Charlie is a nice cheap swimbait, I have done OK on them. My buddy swears on these lures, always has one tied on.

SlingShot soft bait
http://www.bronzeback.com/aguideto.htm This link mentions them being made by Pradco. I can't find much else...

Lure Quizz !
Yeah, very similar to the Rat Fink, but those eyes are definitely not bagley, unless it was modified...

Go-to Bluegill Imitations?
I just got the 0-1 foot version at Gander, but they only had the LSB/Perch color. I just won the bluegill color on Ebay with a bunch of other bagleys, I think Ebay is the way to go to find the 0-1 foot...

nano crank problems
I suggest you do what Roadwarrior said. Also, NEVER buy Matzuo. It is Japanese for crap.

How important is color of a lure??
Mostly natural is the way I go, but I have a string of private ponds my buddy and I fish, and it seems that anything Yellow (not chartreuse...) gets bit hard.

The fish learn our baits....
I wouldn't ignore Mr Hannon's opinions, he's a legend. But I want the link to these supposed studies and real research. Without knowing how Mr Hannon went about his research, study, and testing, the information he passes on is just anecdotal. I'm not trying to be difficult or contrary or a PIA, I am just trying to challenge what is being taken as a given. I get far more fish on cranks and spinnerbaits than I do on worms. Over and over again in the same places...

crankbaits
If you want immediate success, tie on a Bandit 100 (my favorite color is called Taco Salad) and chuck it up against any structure - rocks, a steep bank, or wood. Don't be afraid to hang it up, you'll lose one or two every so often. When you bounce a crank off a rock, you'll lose some paint, but get some very vicious strikes. Once you get the hang of a bandit, move up to a square lipped Bagley bait, more expensive, but better. Watch the bagleys around the rocks though, they get torn up very easily...

crankbaits
In the words of Bill Dance: If the water is shallow, use a shallow running crank. If the water is medium depth, use a medium running crank. If the water is deep, use a deep diving crank. And my own addition to that: If the water is frozen over, everything is a topwater.

Lizard,What's your go to color?
That is a sweet color! My favorite is Natural Blue from Zoom, and it is similar to that Huckleberry color... I'm gonna have to order from *** now...

The fish learn our baits....
It just couldn't be that they saw you and were spooked, or weren't hungry, or they were spawning, running some bream off the bed, or chasing a better food source, or some other condition that you didn't consider.... But ... you're right, there's exactly and exclusively only one reason and not room for any other reason, because you have every single other thing figured out... They HAD to have memorized your lure...a convenient and easy excuse... I have yet to see a hawg tank where the majority fish are healthy. Fish in those tanks are stressed and many times sick. The mood of the sick and stressed ones affects the ones that aren't sick yet, and they act unbasslike. Add to the fact that fifty idiots are sitting around watching them through the glass, some with kids pounding on the window, and a guy at the top with a fake boat throwing lures in ultra clear water... Yup, it must be that they memorized a lure...

First time Shakey Impressions....ROBO VS. GULP
Cool thanks. I'm weird about buying things online though. Eventually I'll find some somewhere, and get them...

First time Shakey Impressions....ROBO VS. GULP
Gulp! Sucks! I hate it. I only catch catfish bream on it. And the smaller bluegills are constantly pecking at it, so I feel like I have to set the hook every two seconds... I cut it up and let my kids use it for bluegill... I have not caught one bass on Gulp... I haven't tried the gulp alive yet, but based on the other version, I won't. It is hard to find Robo worms where I am, but I have been using Zoom Trick Worms, Zoom Finesse Worms, and Bass Assassin Charm Assassins with very good results.

Rage Tail Shad vs Lunker City Salad Spoon
I wish I could. This week is the first sustained warm weather we've been having, so in a couple of weeks or less the topwater might come alive... Can't wait to try out the shad now! Might just play around with it now in my neighbor's pool... Thanks for the info Big-O!

Go-to Bluegill Imitations?
I agree, they are a fantastic lure. They still make them, in diving and super shallow wake bait versions. I'm surprised Mattlures hasn't gotten a mention. If you want to go cheap, get the Storm kickin' slab, it's OK, not in the Mattlures class, but not a dud either. Something I would love to see is a suspending bluegill lure...
