  1. Had a job this morning . Afterwards I stopped at an irrigation ditch culvert . It was a hot and muggy 94 degrees. The water not more than two foot deep . It doesnt look like a place that would hold bass . Well bass are very resilient and take up the best places like culverts and tubes . Caught this one on one side and lost another on the opposite side about the same size . Beetle Spin .Caught eight total . I didnt weigh it but around 5 lbs maybe 4.5 . This is the larger size Beetle than the 1/4 ounce Wal-mart ones . Found them at a Mom and Pop store on the clearance rack .
  2. Yeah , I heard that one too . I use to visit my dad at his favorite bar and some of the stuff I heard from that bunch was hilarious . One old gentlemen , many times , made the claim "I have two bass lures . If neither one of them doesnt catch them , then the bass just arent biting . "
  3. Those look good . smallmouths will chow down on them . I did something similar with half senko type worms . I added legs and antennae at the end with skirt material . A poor mans Ned rig with extra pizazz. Smallies couldnt resist . Did you use braid ?
  4. I visited Bull Shoals one time for several days , under flood conditions and had really good success on Smallmouths . It was the most productive trip I ever had at any of the large southern Missouri reservoirs .
  5. I dont think live bait outfishes artificials unless in a confined area like a pond .
  6. I see lots of gar in good bass waters .
  7. I use to have a couple . I never caught a lot with them like I did the Wee R's .
  8. Doesnt sound like bass . Ignore them .
  9. Nope , i get the legs trough the hooks too .
  10. I put the barrel swivel on the line and hook trick to keep the bait from balling up on the hook .
  11. All bodies of water are different but I catch lots of smallies in a small wadeable river with lots of different lures . I simply fish current seams and wood . Lately all I've been throwing are 1/4 ounce Beetlespins .
  12. I went twice in six days and caught 120 bass . maybe two under 12 inches . The cool weather set that little lake on fire .Plastic worms in the brush and spinnerbaits traveling from brushpile to brushpile . Easy pickings . Caught a few on Ribbets too .
  13. If you live to be a hundred , would that be two ?
  14. I've tried waiting until I feel the fish , like with a buzzbait , counting a couple of seconds , it makes no difference . The bass take the thing under ,most often with a spectacular explosion . It gets frustrating . Oh , and I just bought two more packs .
  15. Matter of fact I have a Riverside Big Craw tied on my worm rod right now .
  16. Why was this moved to tournament talk ? Jade says he doesnt fish tourneys .
  17. You have a message
  18. If I think a place is holding fish , its going to get fished . Even when I'm covering water its usually at a slow speed .
  19. 5.0 EWG's,50 lb braid , 7'0'' mh rod .
  20. I'm referring to solid body toads . I use Stanley Ribbets .
  21. I use toads because they are about the only thing that will work in algae and moss , but my hook-up ratio is horrid . I bet its close to 25% . The problem seems to be the bass not taking the lure well . What do you guys figure is your percentage in strikes and bass landed ?
  22. Another river smallie .
  23. As long as I dont get owned .
