They should not go through a lake turnover . As far as lures go , I dont know what is best on the ponds you fish . I throw everything when the water cools down . Spinnerbaits , buzzbaits , crankbaits , worms...

There is no thermocline in them . They just gradually get colder .

This . Shallow ponds dont go through a fall transition like large bodies of water .

I like them predominately black with just a small amount of chartreuse, same way with black/blue .

I like black with a little chartreuse in it . Paired with a black Salt Craw with chartreuse pincers , thats a combination that works real well in the waters I frequent . Yep . Colors that use to be popular , work even better today because no one is throwing them .

September is fickle for me . I dont know what to expect . October is usually pretty dang good .

Deep fishing has never took off for me this summer but the shallow bite has been strong . For some reason the algae matts have shrunk and spinnerbaits over the top has been working extremely well . Worms in the brush has been consistent .Toads still producing and beetle spins for river smallies and culverts . The year totals 705 bass caught 211 spinnerbait 156 worm 142 toad 74 beetlespin 72 crankbait 40 jig and grub 20 buzzbait

I have an idea but the very first thing I do when getting to the water is get a general impression of it . I might be switching lures before ever making a cast .

My worm rod is 6'9" , Spinnerbait / buzzbait 6'8". Crankbait 7'0" Toad 7'0"

Last week I had a good day . 50 bass caught and a limit over the 15 inch limit . I ran into two young guys who were struggling to catch fish . We were fishing the same waters and basically the same baits . So what was the difference ? First of all they were 10 times noisier than me . I could hear things slamming on their boat clear across the lake .The only slamming you hear from my boat is when a fish gets off and is flopping on the floor . I was by myself and able to position the boat better than them . I dont fish for social entertainment , that is what bowling night is for . My cast were lower trajectory , quieter and more accurate . What I'm getting at is little things make a big difference .

It will be interesting to see if he participates next event .

I would also go with the 7 footer in mh . The shorter rod ' I believe ' would make sidearm casting easier and more efficient when throwing spinnerbaits and other lures .

Sounds like you do a pretty good job of lure selection . Way past the try everything stage . I dont pond hop but ditch hop . I only use a few lures . Beetle Spin , texas rigged worm and a top water . Keep them in a truck compartment for when the urge to go ditch hopping hits .

I'm not a good jerk bait fisherman but love floating ones post spawn . My biggest limit ever was with a Bomber Long A Minnow on post spawn bass . They were set up shallow on points so I just hopped from point to point boating lunkers . Pattern fishing at its best .

I think being introduced to fishing at a young age makes a huge difference . I can honestly say I've been an angler as far back as I can remember .We would go on family vacations , guess what I wanted to do? Look what I have going on now . My tent on a small river on private ground . I'm going to keep it there for at least a month and spend some evenings there bass and cat fishing by myself for some therapeutic healing .

Of course I catch more fish on waters I know . Thats part of the time on the water thingy .Put me on the deep clear Ozark lakes and my success drops off significantly . They dont get to skunk me though .

I try not to emulate the pros . I have not tried every technique and dont own every lure . I just go fishing . Select lures that excel in the cover or structure I encounter , make the best and quietest cast I can and like Tririvers said , stay out there a long time .

Try not to catch bass . Get some small panfish jigs and so after sunfish and perch . Then you should catch some .

First thing I thought of is a gold foil Rapala Fat Rap that I have . They dont appear to be made any more . The perch Fat Rap still has the gold foil belly . I think gold foil shad raps are still available .
