  1. I make spinnerbaits and buzzbaits . The thing about spinnerbaits , after you catch 20 to 50 fish take the hardware off and put it on a new bait . No more broken baits when battling a fish . I Recycle my favorite brand spinnerbait components . Buy a Booyah bait with Hildebrandt blades , dont wait for it to break transfer those blades . I just caught over 30 bass on a new hand pour friday . Those components are already on a fresh bait ready to go again . I'll remelt the head and salvage the hook next pour .
  2. Its 4 in the afternoon ,so I dont have much time to fish . I'm heading to the nearest creek shady side armed with spinnerbaits , buzzbaits , and toads for the grass and a texas rigged something for brush and laydowns . Once the shade reaches the other side of the creek I'll fish my way back . Its my spot , I know it well , I'm going to catch fish . Oh , I didnt see it was changed to a two acre pond . Never mind .
  3. This year has been my best spinnerbait year ever .There was a short period during the post spawn that other lures "crankbaits " were the lures to throw but spinnerbaits have dominated my catches this year . Its going to be short lived as the Conservation dept introduced grass carp to the lake . They will eat every last bit of vegetation and in a year the spinnerbait wont be as effective .
  4. Tuesday bass were in the back of coves hitting buzzbaits . Water temp mid 50s in the morn 70 in the afternoon . I'm hoping to go back out tomorrow . Bad part is I broke my buzzbait rod . I dont have a replacement and cant find one . They just dont make rods I like anymore .
  5. Reminds me of Dad who always had a cooler of live worms in the cellar . He said the worms ate coffee grounds and would occasionally mix some in . Dont know if thats true or not but the worms thrived .
  6. When shad are that thick and no bass biting just ignore them and fish like they are not there .It was late in the day so there should be some strong shadows then maybe targeting cover on the shady side would do some good .Or maybe not .
  7. Thats only 20 cents a piece . Even if there are a few bad ones that s a deal if they spin freely .
  8. You can use anything but soft baits will not last long .It doesnt matter to me if a Beetle has no action , it doesnt need it . Older Beetles are harder and last a long time. I have some of those .Todays Beetles are softer and only last a few fish .If you really want to improve the beetle spin , try a ball bearing swivel , it makes a noticeable difference , spins much faster .
  9. I usually dont replace stock hooks . If they get bent then I replace them . Old lures had horrible hooks but todays hooks work well enough for me .
  10. Caught a good one this morning on one of my spinnerbaits with copper blades .
  11. congrats . I'm stuck at 800 . Havent been able to fish in three weeks because of a pinched nerve in the neck . I was well on my way to 1000 too . Hoping to get out this week and add another 50 to the total .
  12. I carry one rod and several baits that will fish the place effectively and be able to cast well on my combo .The lures will be different for each body of water .My river baits are different than my rip rap dam baits or weed filled pond baits or heavy current rip rap lined river banks ....
  13. You can stand up in the jon boat .I have long legs that cramp easily so the jon boat would be a no brainer for me .
  14. I have used 5 inch grubs as top waters before, they bubble right along the surface . Its been awhile and I cant tell you what hook I was using . Some kind of offset worm hook , about as long as the body . I texas rigged them . River smallmouths ate that thing up .
  15. I never fished Hydrilla . I thought it was a hardy plant that lures could be ripped free of . I fish chara a lot and that stuff will wad up on a lure . I fish it with spinnerbaits around the edges . toads on top .
  16. I have caught them before but its tough . I fish a crankbait through them but the crank has to run precisely at that depth and that is hard to do .
  17. Last time I went fishing a Kingfisher swooped on my spinnerbait twice .
  18. Manns Jelly worm 6 " Manns jelly worm 8" Manns Jelly Wagler Larew salt craw Ditto Gator Tail Riverside Top Gun BPS Squirmin Lizard Yum Dinger Fliptail worm Riverside Big Craw
  19. Okay , Ive seen this video before and have done it on the longer wire forms I have .I did not know that was Smalljaw . The shorter forms I just bend a loop and make sure its touching . Have not lost any baldes this year with a loop .
  20. All bass lures work so my favorite baits depends on the water I'm fishing . Its different on each body of water . Texas rigged plastic worm have caught more bass than any other lure in my life . Spinnerbait has caught more this year . Buzzbaits are the funnest to fish .
  21. I rarely finesse fish . I've tried it and it just hasn't been productive for me .The fish I do catch while finessing are not worth targeting .
  22. My rod is pre Ugly Stick , no graphite in it . Its wrapped like an ugly stick .
  23. I have a few blades like that , I'll make one .
  24. When I first started bass fishing from a boat and using baitcast gear for the first time [ Ambassaduer 5000 on a 5'6" Lews Childress fiberglass speed rod] I bought a couple of Blakemore C.C. spinners . I had trouble casting most lures but these were half ounce with a big copper Colorado and a "black" skirt .They were the only lure I had that I could cast competently with that combo .I caught lots of bass on those big black spinnerbaits and won my second club tourney entered using it , with three bass that weighed thirteen lbs . I might have to revisit black this autumn .
