  1. My home lake has been a slobberknocker this fall . Right now I'm at LOZ. Its been a challenge . Spinnerbaits , the bass are just not taking them deeply . I lost two keepers on them. Zilch on T-rigs and jigs . Same for buzzbaits . Square bills for some reason have been the ticket . The bass that are hitting them are taking them deep .
  2. I use to take a guy who bought the beer, I paid for the gas . Then he would drink most the beer because I have to drive home. Anymore , I just go by myself . Its more enjoyable and I catch more fish . Social entertainment is what bowling night is for .
  3. Me too . Those shootouts where just about every angler brings a limit in are not as interesting for me . I would like to see a fall tournament or two every year .
  4. That forecast looks good for bass fishing .
  5. I didnt even bother to go out with wind gust up to 40 mph . So yeah , I got skunked . I practiced skip casting instead and did not improve any . I guess I'm just too uncoordinated for it .
  6. In my terminal tackle box are a few large Beetle spin wires, not made by Beetle Spin maybe Renosky , with ball bearing swivels . I'll put them on a 1/4 ounce ball head jig and soft swim bait .I dont fish them in snaggy water but will fish them other places .I caught a bunch of fish with them this year along with traditional Beetle Spins .
  7. I'm at Lake of the Ozarks right now . The entire cove I'm staying at is covered with shad in the evenings . During the day the depth finder is lit up with shad . I'm catching a few decent fish up a river where the shad are not so prolific .
  8. If there is a size that fits your equipment best I'd go with that .
  9. Its been three years and I swear they are among the best . Bass fishing has been tough the past three days of my vacation . I tied on the CR5 and had to dig the hooks out of a couple of keepers . They got throated .
  10. I've had a lot of spinnerbaits catastrophically fail when fighting a bass . Every brand I use eventually break , even Titanium Terminators . Now days I pour my own and just switch out the hardware to a new bait before they get to that point .
  11. I dont have a preference .You guys think the twist eye catches more bass than the R-bend before breaking ?
  12. When they built the levee system here a lot of backwater areas were cut off from the Mississippi river . I have caught scads of toads in those waters .
  13. What cranks did you use from 13 to 20 foot ?
  14. I'm not a good cold water fisherman . I have caught some big ones in early, early spring with crankbaits on sun baked banks .Come to think of it crankbaits have been my best bait in late fall also for large bass . I did get on a blade bait bite last November in 25 foot of water but there were no big bass mixed in .
  15. I use them in areas with few snags . Culverts and ditches are favorite spots . They work well for river smallies . Right now I'm at Lake of the Ozarks and the fishing is tough . Bass are just flashing on spinnerbaits . I added a revved up Beetle spin spinner with ball bearing swivel to DOA 1/4 ounce swimbait and caught a fifteen inch keeper . One of only two keepers caught yesterday . I'll probably try it some more today .
  16. yeah its tough . I caught five yesterday with two keepers . The bass are tentative . Just flashing on the baits .The ones I have caught were barely hooked .
  17. I dont have one either . How heavy are they ? Seven foot mh rod is thee biggest rod I carry .
  18. I'm back this October up in the Little Niangua arm . Fished a few hours yesterday afternoon up river insome shallow water . Only caught three small ones . Found a deep 25 foot brush pile with fish signals all over it [crappie?] close to the cabin. I'll try that today then head down lake .I guess I'll just dock fish . Thats the only option I see .
  19. This tourney the 6th , 7th , and 13th finishers , this was their first time . You might be on to something .
  20. Top one resembles a River Runt with really odd hooks . Second one some sort of early Strike King . Next is Bomber Water dog . bottom two are Hellbenders .
  21. How does the tie breaker work for making the cut ? Bill Lowen and Patrick Walters are tied for 10th olace . Okay , I found out how the tie breaker works . Whoever has the most single day weight wins .
  22. As a kid I spent many , many hours on the Mississippi fishing from rip rap banks . When a barge would go by the waves crashing on the rocks would dislodge and stun crawfish then bass plus other species would try to nab an easy snack . I would be catfishing but kept a rod with a jig handy for those occasions .
  23. My last day I got into a school and caught 76 bass . 52 from one spot . Lots of fifteen inch keepers . A 6 lber was the biggest and a three lber was second . Most of the fish are in the 13 to 16 inch range . If I had hit this spot earlier in the day I may have hit 100 . The depth finder was loaded with spaghetti shaped fish signals . I should have taken a photo of it just to show what a school of active bass look like . LOZ , I dont expect to catch a lot , I never have but I'm hitting it when I expect some bass will be active shallow . I plan on fishing it my way and leave the spinning rods in the locker .
