  1. It seems to me they dont fight as hard in cold water .

The first worm I caught bass with was the red 6 inch Creme pre-rigged with two hooks and the little propeller . The first Texas rig fish came on a black Mister Twister twin tail grub with a black skirt between the hook and weight . I was getting skunked that day and another bass angler I met was catching bass on a jig n pig . I didnt have any jigs or pork so I improvised . I became a much better angler that day .
  3. I dont have that lure .
  4. I have best luck in "emergent" standing timber with square bills and top waters . Standing timber has branches so a crankbait will only go as deep as the top branch . Long lipped baits just cause me frustration . If the timber is shallow enough Texas rigged worms and jigs can be used but its a little tricky because of the limbs . I like to pitch to the base then let line out so it falls straight down the trunk . Casting past the tree the line will once again drape over the top limb . Spinnerbaits work also . Some people like lipless baits but all I do is snag them up . Look for isolated trees, large horizontal branches, the edges and, larger trees . Pay attention to the bottom contours . Trees on good structure are better than the rest ., Like points , channel ledges and humps .
  5. I use to not catch bass beyond 12 foot until the Dredgers came out . Now I catch them as deep as 22 foot . I had to go to a hvy action rod to chuck those 25.5's but they get down there and catch them . I like the 3/4 ounce Red Eye Shads out in 20 plus foot of water too .
  6. Some years cranks are my most successful lures and always near the top .This is the first year I counted fish caught and what lures , they are in 3rd behind spinnerbaits and worm/jigs . They could easily slide into second if I get out again and find the bass schooled deep . I could pop 50 fish with them fast .
  7. I have a banana head spinnerbait mold also . I wonder how sinkers made from it would go though brush?Might just pop right over it .
  8. I have three green Curados 200 B that I dont use anymore . Just dont like the feel of them . Decent shape ..
  9. Snags are inevitable . I want to to minimize the jig getting wedged in "new" brushpiles . There are lots of jig head types . There are horizontal and vertical hook eyes . I tried a round head and that didnt work at all . A triangular shaped head and Arkie did better .
  10. I made the exact same mistake this year . Deep cups do not work for a secondary blade .
  11. For some reason , that did not come to mind . I have made weights that will accommodate a skirt [1/8 , 1/4 , 3/8 and 1/2 ] with my spinnerbait mold and it didnt ocuur to me to try one .
  12. So , there are these brush piles made from very small brush . Little spindly limbs , super thick , just a booger to fish . Every jig I have tried gets wedged on most every cast . Texas rigs too . So what is the most snagless jig you throw ?
  13. I went Saturday . Duck hunters had me blocked from implementing my game plan . Still ended up with a limit of fifteen inch keepers all on a spinnerbait .
  14. I'm heading out Saturday morning . This could be the final trip of the year . I want to get on the lake before sunup and go to the farthest reaches of the elec. motor only lake . Then simply fish my way back . I'll get back just before dark . If I'm lucky I'll have a bass worthy of the latest catch pic thread .
  15. Cook Cobb Combs Paquette Snowden
  16. Who knows . I went yesterday in Northern Mo. The water temp was 47 . I caught 22 . 17 came on a spinnerbait 5 on a jig from shady banks . Not a single bass was caught on sunny banks .
  17. No longer available but I'm keeping an eye out for them . Rapala Crankin Rap .
  18. Problem with that is I dont know where deeper brush piles are . If I did I'd be all over them . I had engine issues so stayed in the little Niangua the whole time . Didnt catch anything big but caught fish with 6 keepers .The only lure I could get the bass to commit on the whole week was a crankbait . Old boat ramps were the most consistent spots I found . I caught a few whites . Way up the Little Niangua there was a flat so shallow that I couldnt reach it from any direction . The gulls were dive bombing there , so I figure whites had the shad corralled but I could not get to them .
  19. Thats why you move your rod .Make it come alive .
  20. I just came from a dock covered lake . Tried to skip some but wasnt very successful . What jig , brand , weight , trailer would be a good selection with a baitcaster?
  21. Had the boat out a couple of times and it started snowing . Second time it happened we came close to getting stuck on the ramp .
  22. ...and I'm fretting over buying a new reel .
  23. I might have 1 trip left . I know a good deep water spot for cold weather bass . Maybe I can entice some with a worm ,red eye shad or a blade bait . This area is a puzzle to me . There is a good point that comes out to about 14 foot , then it drops abruptly to a 20 to 25 foot slightly sloping flat bottom all the way around . When the bass are deeper than 14 foot they gang up on one area of that flat a good cast away from the tip of the point .Its predictable and I dont know why that spot attracts the bass . The important thing is I know where it is .
  24. On this one , I dont think there is enough room between the lead and hook bend .
