  1. Ive been twice at night . Had one good night and one lousy . No doubt about it . Night fishing here is best the first couple days before a full moon because the moon is high and bright when the sun goes down . It will be early August next time its in that phase . Dark nights are much tougher .
  2. I just picked up some 1/4 ounce ones off the clearance rack . I imagine I'll use them like any other jig head , bounce it around , toss it in brush piles...
  3. Blueberry Jelly Worms . I dont know anyone still throwing them .
  4. I dont think I ever experienced a split ring failure . If I had its was very rare .
  5. I do . Bass love them .I use them any time except muddy water .All depths .
  6. No, chara overwhelms shallow areas making it impossible to fish with many lures . I cant even Texas rig it .
  7. I dont fish frogs much but fish toads quite a bit . I have come to the conclusion that most of the times it is the fishes fault . They are hitting it explosively but not taking it . Cant hook a fish . Other times they are taking it good and I get lots of hook-ups .
  8. The last couple of days I caught 21 bank fishing on the Mississippi river , just like I did as a kid . Dipping a little grub around cover . Had some whites and crappie mixed in .
  9. There are silent Red Eye Shads . I have one that the ballast weight came loose and its now a quiet one knocker and my favorite lipless bait .
  10. Been to hot too fish . Late in the afternoons I've been doing ok . Had one good night trip one not so good . The fish are biting I just have to stay out of the heat . For some reason the thermocline at the lake has stayed low, 12 to 15 foot and lots of baitfish at 8 to 10 foot . Those depths have been producing 15 inch keeper bass . In the summer I target shade and deep water .How deep depends on the lake .
  11. I think they have been discontinued .?
  12. Manns use to make an almost identical one called the Jelly Waggler . I use to buy those in packs of 100 .
  13. He also took selfies with his fish .Probably posted it on Facebook along with location .Three fish isnt worth the drive , I use to catch them by the dozens .
  14. I like to yoyo them in deep water if its a pretty clean bottom . If there is wood there , they will find it .
  15. I have them scattered everywhere .hopefully this winter I'll have them all in the same location .
  16. Purples including all the variants like tequila sunrise are first followed closely by blues . I catch much more with them than pumpkins and melons , and I have given the pumpkins and melons a fair shot .
  17. by brand and usually use the first color that comes untangled
  18. They work great . Texas rig the tail down and eliminate line twist .
  19. Most of the time I carry a dedicated worm/jig rod , dedicated frog //toad rod , dedicated crankbait rod , buzzbait spinnerbait rod that will work for a lot of other baits and a 7 foot med action all around rod .Throw in a spinning combo and I'm pretty well covered .
  20. Went wading for smallmouths yesterday on a secluded , hard to reach river . Water was a little high and only 1 rock bar showing . Before I got to it a kayak came down stream and beat me to it . Oh well , he caught a couple and moved on . I managed three off of it .Too many kayaks on this once great smallmouth river .
  21. I dont know how many rods and reels I have I carry between 5 and 7 when in a boat .
  22. I see a ridge and another high spot on the right . Are they points, channels,,? It looks very interesting. Of course you could have just went toward the bank turned around or zigzagged on a ledge . That will make the same picture . If those are humps , points or other structure I'd investigate further and not pay much attention to the fish signals , there doesnt seem to be much of that .
  23. Revisiting this thread and thanks for mentioning toads . Thats the lure I've been having the best success with the last two years . I've gone through lots of packs of Ribbets . They litter the boat floor .
  24. Fat Raps are still being produced but I never see them anywhere .
  25. I dont fish creeks but fish small rivers . Summer is a great time to fish . Places to try are below and above ripples , deep holes and cover . Cast upstream when possible . I like spinnerbaits , poppers , buzzbaits , texas rigged craws , jig and craw and poor man Neds [half a stick worm on a jig head ] . I have found for smallmouths they like plastic craws , hula grubs , baby brush hogs, any plastic with tentacles .
