  1. There are certain spinnerbaits that just feel good to me . Single blades seem to have that perfect vibration more often . . My most used lure are single willowleafs from late spring until late fall . Everybody prefers different baits with different configurations , I go by feel .
  2. I've never used a DT series bait . I have quite a few old Fat Raps that I still use often and the Crankin Raps are one of my favorite more modern baits .
  3. I fished Rathbun once . Caught everything but bass .
  4. Good to know . I heard the Berkely War Pig swims on the fall also .
  5. I'm 60 and havent fished a tourney in several years because I no longer have a tourney caliber boat . I've had chances to go as a co angler but always had schedule conflicts . I had some success in tourneys and a cousin and I won the largest event ever held at Mark Twain lake , as far as I know. A buddy tourney with almost 500 boats . After that win everybody started fishing deep on points . I cracked a few top fives after that but never another victory .
  6. Back in the 80's I wanted to improve my top water fishing . I dedicated part of every day fishing top waters , no matter what the condition .I pretty much threw every one I had . The lure that out fished them all was a vintage Dalton Special . I dont know what happened to that lure but I cant find it . It didnt walk that great but shallow bass in brush routinely smashed it . If any of you have them in retirement , sharpen those hooks and give them a go .
  7. Wow , thats what I call a "square" bill .
  8. Ive been trying to figure out how to fish a lipless crankbait through thick brush . I have a Red Eye Shad with two weedless single hooks attached but will have to wait till next spring to see how it goes . Then when I saw these they appear to be what I've been searching for .
  9. I kid you not, I owned one of those kits back around 1970-1971 and remember making all those critters. I had a set too .
  10. Me too. I dont buy many new lures , it has to fill a niche .As soon as I saw these , I knew exactly where wanted to use them .
  11. Its a little over a half ounce .
  12. I just ordered three Bluegill color from a site called wave Inn . Total plus shipping a little over 24 dollars . I cant wait to bring one through a brush pile and then kill it .
  13. This video was made in 2014 . I have never seen anyof these lures . They seem to only be sold in Europe . I want a couple . Have any of you tried them and where did you find them ?
  14. I had a Bill Plummer Super Frog with the wire weed guard . Also had a Snag Proof Frog which Ithink was the first of its kind . Had a Snag proof leach and crawdad to .
  15. I usually carry four casting combos and a spinning outfit . They have to be versatile enough to cover all my bases . The baitcasters are : An old 6'8" MH for texas rigs and jigs . This rod has a short handle making it equivalent to a 6'10" rod . A high speed baitcaster is on it . Spooled 17 lb Berkeky XL clear blue Fluorescent . : 6'6" med action rod for a host of lures, often a squarebill is tied on. Spooled with 12 lb Big Game : 7' med rod for mainly for crankbaits and buzzbaits . Spooled with 12 lb Big Game : 7" MH with a slow speed baitcaster for larger deep diving crankbaits and other lures . Spooled with 12 lb Big Game : Dropshot spinning rod for all finesse fishing . Spooled with 8 to 10 lb Trilene XL . I have never Drop shotted with it LOL .
  16. I have a supply of living rubber but its getting low . I keep finding skirts on sale real inexpensive and stock up on them .
  17. I got up early last week and went to the shooting range at daybreak . Just for the heck of it I looked at the bern behind the 25 yard targets and the lead was just laying on top of the ground . I could have filled a bucket up quickly . If theres a gun range close by , check it out . I meant to post this in the tackle making forum .
  18. I use a Hodgepodge of gear and usually pick things up on sale . I use to be loyal to Ambassaduers but now every manufacturer makes great gear .
  19. Great tip . My hands and feet get so cold that I cant bear it .
  20. Sometimes I have to turn them . Fishing in cover its preferable to get them out fast . I'm also probably using a single hook and getting a strong hook set . If Its a big fish in relatively open water then it is beneficial to not tear the hooks out of their mouths , especially with treble hook lures .
  21. Jig trailers , I just use a simple twin tail grub a lot . I'm not wasting money on expensive trailers that wont catch me any more fish . The back half of a torn up lizard is a dynamite trailer . Then I'm catching more fish on one bait and saving money too . I cut the torn up lizards in half store them in a zip lock bag and reuse them . If a faster fall is desired use a torn up plastic worm .
  22. How would using a bobber stop or two at the end of the line to keep the weight on work . I think that would keep a regular bullet weight on the line but stilll pull off is snagged . Maybe a simple overhand knot tied on the end may make it more secure . I have never drop shotted but have contemplated it and would just improvise with what I already have .
  23. One winter day I noticed some crawdads beside a culvert with water running through it . They were predominately purple . Until that point I thought crawdads were brown . I have seined darters that were as brilliantly colored as aquarium fish . Colors that one might think are unnatural may be not be so .
  24. The larger sizes are not buoyant and that can be a problem for some .I have some that suspend and some that slowly sink . I primarily use them on structure that is pretty much void of cover . The action is nice and tight and every single one has been perfectly tuned . They just feels right . I just finished reading of a walleye tournament and the winner used Dredgers because of its "aggressive diving action" .
