  1. If you need a swivel just prerig them at home . I think just a snap will accomplish the same thing . Just one knot .
  2. Cast upstream as much as possible . Below ripples are classic spots but above ripples are good to . Deeper ripples hold big fish . I use pretty much the same lures as lake fishing . Buzzbaits , Texas rigs , jigs , tubes , spinnerbaits , poppers . If its visible cover I cast at it . Makes no difference if its in fast water or slow water - shallow or deep . In rivers I use a lot more plastic crawfish than worms .
  3. I pour a lot of my baits and try to copy good baits of the past . The Bakemore C.C. spinner with the big copper Colorado blade is my favorite all time spinnerbait . One that I plan on making soon is the 1/4 ounce Fleck Weed Waders with Indiana blades . I wish I had one to get the wire lengths and blade sizes correct .
  4. Reminds me of a friend of my Dads .I heard him say numerous times that he had two lures [ dont remember the name of these two magic lures ] and if the bass were not biting one of those lures then they just were not biting that day . Bet he had lots of days the bass were not biting .
  5. The Bomber Long A Minnow . I believe that lure has caught me the largest average bass than all others and there are times I cast and reel . Won a fishing derby { all legal fish counted ] by burning it past stumps . 2 bass 13 lbs . The largest spotted bass I ever caught , about 4 lbs was caught on a Pico Pop retrieved slowly just below the surface . At the right speed it wiggles like a crankbait and pushes a wake out in front of it .
  6. You master jigs and worms then you can fish most anything .
  7. This Rogers Big Jim . I had twins that I found at an antique store . The first one I lost in a tree . This lure has "it" . Not to much action , hunts a little and the bass just inhale it . I will go to great lengths to get it back . Its not going to get retired , its dang good .
  8. Wait , this is the most bonehead thing I ever did . I launched my boat and there was this cute girl swimming on the ramp. Pulled out about fifty feet and she swam out and grabbed hold of my boat . I didnt invite her in and took her back to bank . Man , I can be incredibly stupid .
  9. Thats going to be hard to top . I guess removing hooks from basses mouths carelessly .I've done it thousands of times before getting one buried . It was only a matter of time .
  10. 3/16 , 1/4 and 5/16th get used almost 100 per cent of the time . Occasionally I will use a 1/8th . I dont have the massive weed beds to punch through like some of you do.
  11. Theres an area at the lake I fish the most that I havent figured out in forty years . I know theres a spot or two there that is a bass magnet . Lots of depth changes as the old creek channel zags in and out . If I could run a big boat in there and use the depth finder I would probably find it . Stuck in a jonboat with an elec motor only , I just havent been able to connect the dots , yet .
  12. I can tell a blue cat because they roll in circles .
  13. I use whatever . As long as it has a good swivel, I am not picky .
  14. At 1:16 the erratic action reminds me of a soft jerk bait.
  15. The backhand cast .
  16. There are some real good lures there . The Pico Pops make a lot of noise . They are not spitters but chuggers . I love them .
  17. Google pre fishing bass tournaments and watch the videos made by pros .
  18. This is confusing to me ,
  19. The wind and heat . I cant tolerate the heat very well. If I had to pick a lure that is my nemesis I guess it would be the Shad Rap. Those things cast like #$%^ .
  20. I like the bait to be wider than the weight . That way the soft plastic gets wedged more than the weight and the soft plastic is easier to pull free .
  21. Its been a long time since I fished a good pad field . I had great success with a Texas rig worm .
  22. Yes . Some of the old ones come right in and I have caught some sick ones too .
  23. I have put a 1/16th ounce and a 18th ounce bullet weight on together then peg them in place . The skinnier sinkers get wedged less than a fatter one .
