  1. The lakes around here shad are thick everywhere . Find the baitfish and bass are close by ? Then I should be catching bass anywhere .
  2. Beer should calm them down a bit .
  3. I need to check that out . I tried FC once and disliked it . It was stiff , I could not tie a decent knot with it and I didnt like the way it settled on the bottom . It didnt slack up like mono . I probably had an inferior brand but at this point I'm happy with Trlene XL and Big Game .
  4. If your fishing lakes to the north of you with a lot of color like Twain , black/chartreuse gets a lot of bites .
  5. All lines have advantages and disadvantages . I learned the nuisances of mono a long time ago . So know how to set a hook and play a fish with it . Its not for everybody . Same thing with braid and floro users . They learn their line .
  6. When I release a badly bleeding bass , it almost always struggles at the surface belly up and dies . I had a five pounder do this last year. I retrieved it and filleted it .
  7. If they were out in the middle of the cove suspended just below the surface , that is peculiar behavior for bass .Ive had the same experience with bass behaving that way shallow and sometimes I catch them sometimes I dont . I usually have better luck fishing cover than trying to catch those visible fish .
  8. I've never used snaps but that may be changing soon . Knots are becoming difficult to tie . Yesterday I received a new prescription for glasses . That should help .
  9. Its a drop Shot rod I picked up on clearance for almost nothing . Its in my rod box, I cant tell you the make right now .Im thinking Wright McGill IM8. I know , its not a top shelf rod but my general impression was that it felt good in my hand . I rarely use spinning gear and picked it up just to have . I mounted a Pflueger President reel that had last years string 8 or 10 lb suffix elite .It didnt cast as far as I expected . Micro-guides were closely spaced and so tiny . It's foreign to me , I didnt know the purpose of those guides . I'll try it again with a slightly heavier lure and re-judge . You ever start a thread and wish you hadnt .This is one of those .
  10. You have some Dalton Specials .I use to fish them . Mark Twain Lake bass loved them .
  11. Nice find . I just finished off a big plate of morels. Last year I had chanterelles for the first time . Those things were everywhere. Hen of the Woods and Oyster mushrooms are choice too.
  12. Braid with no stretch and a jumping bass . yep , shes coming off .
  13. The problem is , I cant tell a dink from a Mama so I have to duck the occasional flying bass .
  14. I bought a spinning rod , the first two guides are normal size but the rest are micro guides . I used it yesterday and might not use it again . It wouldnt cast for distance . What good are they .
  15. Try not to let them jump . Hold the rod low when they start going upward . If your using soft plastics with the hook buried , set the hook harder and do not hesitate . I went through a period where I was losing a lot of big bass . I was trying to muscle them in like some of the pros do . Now I dont get in a hurry unless its needed , like trying to get them out of cover . I watched John Murray play those big bass at Toledo Bend .Thats the way to do it .
  16. That would be easily lost
  17. One to two foot visibility is the norm where I fish , Yes , I catch fish with them with lots of soft platics. I use them with a 3/4 ounce egg sinker as a search bait on flats and points .
  18. I'll do a lot of deep cranking come summer .I bought one in each size all Fire Tiger . The one on the end is a Rebel Deep Wee R , courtesy of Whitwolf .
  19. I need a quarter ounce weight minimum for pitching and 5/16th preferred . Anything lighter doesn't work with my setup .
  20. Dont know how smart bass are but I'm feeling kind of dumb . I cant even pronounce that word .
  21. I enjoy trolling . I'll troll at the depth most fish activity is showing up . As far as bass tournaments it would cause a lot of friction . The trollers are going to be fishing the same places as the casters . Effective trolling is done on good spots .
  22. I used the 10.5 for a bit today . I like the way it felt and it dove fast , tight action . I didnt catch anything with it but had a good general impression . It ran perfectly straight , the only crank I threw today that I didnt have to tinker with . .
  23. I have a several different ones and dont fret to much about which to use . I like the Larew Salt Craw too but the 4 inch version for tight eyes LOL . I go after numbers and there will be a few big ones mixed in . I prefer to use the ones that are skinny and round like a worm with the craw body . I fish them and rig them exactly like I do a worm.
  24. Its going to be muddy . Some areas will be clearer .
  25. Just wondering what the water clarity is up in the forks and down by the dam . I'm going out Sunday and dont want to waste a tank of gas looking for clearer water .
