  1. Question . with the 1 dollar spinnerbait and cheap swivel , does the blades spin when dropped ?
  2. I always assumed those lakes were small private waters . I want to them do large waters that are new to them . I'd love too see a big name pro who has never fished Mark Twain, come here in September and see how well he does in one day . I'll wager it will not be a very exciting article .LOL
  3. I use the hand also.
  4. What depths ? If your fishing 6, 10 , 12 , 15 ....foot ledges which baits do the job for you ?
  5. You're going to get a lot of different answers . I keep it very simple . In spring . I usually go with larger brighter lures and fish them shallow . Its a good time to use double Colorado blades . When that bite dies , I usually go with a single willow blade and more translucent colors . I can fish that lure from shallow to deep. Retrieve it straight , kill it , hop it....Its a versatile lure . I may go heavier for deep water like 1/2 ounce , 1/4 ounce for shallow , or a 3/8 ounce for an all around bait choice . One more . At night I use the Strike King Midnight Special with a Colorado blade .
  6. I'm just north of you . There is usually a good shallow bite when the leaves change . But the fish are biting now . They have been biting good all summer .
  7. I took a guy who has no boat . So we went to a good spot , didnt think it would hurt any . Another guy with a boat then took him for the sole purpose of finding out where the spot was . I heard them talking about it . Dont take people to your honey holes ,if you want to keep them .
  8. I dont get to fish much anymore , so that one day every week or two can be challenging on a large reservoir . Its the main reason I fish smaller reservoirs a lot . Its usually much faster to locate fish .
  9. I think they are essential pieces of equipment and use them regularly . Even in small lakes fishing from a rental jon boat , i pack a couple .
  10. I'm not saying this is you but it certainly was me . When I got my first bass boat with a Humminbird Flasher , I did not know how to fish points and did not know much about the thermocline .I did a lot of fishing the mouths of coves , thinking that I was point fishing . After a season of trial and error , I figured out the best points extended far out into the lake . After that fishing became a lot easier . My advice is to spend a lot of time using that graph and invest in some marker buoys , if you havent already . If you see something interesting toss a buoy and fish it . Keep repeating and and you will eventually start getting fish . There are some days where I spend half the day just watchig the depth finder .
  11. Rich , you have the Right Stuff . Most people would have given up long ago but you are hanging in there . Keep at it , try some new ponds , lakes ... I know a lot of people who gave fishing a try and quit . nothing wrong with that , it just wasnt their sport .
  12. I'm sure I have caught a bass with the first cast of a new lure several times but I cant recall which ones . I guess it was not that big of a deal for my brain to keep it on file .
  13. That happened to me last October . I had bass located located and was catching them on almost every cast then it was like somebody turned off a switch . I tried a few different things then called it a day . That has happened to me before in the fall and I attribute it to the sun going down and the bass who were feeding heavily trying to fatten up for winter just shutting it down for the night .
  14. I remember in the 80's even the pros in Bassmaster magazine referred to cover as structure .
  15. Fishing pressure can make it tough fishing ,but 4 or 5 bass all summer ? Thats some tough fishing . My hats off to you for sticking with it . You have more patience than I .
  16. Ive never her this one before .Maybe a reel can developed to give off "Good Vibrations ."
  17. I might have to start making some , I have plenty of lead . I've been wanting a short shank jig head to use with paddle tail grubs for many years now . I have never seen them except on the net by DOA , and I refuse to pay those prices . I take crappie heads and bend the hooks to get what I want ,but this is risky because of the weakened inferior hook If you get a Sassy Shad straight on a short shank hook the lure vibrates much more ..
  18. I've had three more people ask me to take them fishing this week . I have to quit posting on Facebook .
  19. The tourney I'm most proud of , I was not on fish . I stayed on this fifty yard section of steep bank all day long , just going back and forth fishing aT-rigged lizard . I caught the final keeper with about thirty minutes remaining and finished second just two ounces away from first .If I was running all over the place I probably dont cash a check .
  20. Bass nope . Asian carp have spooled me . I hooked something at night below a dam that moved slow , spooled me then snapped my line . I like to think it was a hundred lb catfish but probably just a log moving down stream .
  21. Theres many different paths . Could be cover or structure . A treeline or fence line would be forms of cover . Ditches , channels and points could be forms of structure . The two together are even better yet . I fish a flat where I have caught some lunkers but it is slow fishing because I have never found a route . I fish a point on the other side of the cove and catch bass by the dozens .
  22. I never used one but have always wanted to play with one . It may be a useful tool . I had a light/temp meter that I used all the time and I learned a lot from it . I marked the probe in 1 and 5 foot intervals with colored electrical tape and the light and temp would always have drastic changes in the thermocline . It helped me become a better angler .
  23. The top photo I interpret as moving fish and when In see moving fish I assume they are feeding . The second photo is fish with something on the bottom . I am not real good at distinguishing type of fish on a sonar unit . Could be bass , channel cats ... I see a lot of catfish on my sonar that look like this . I fish for channels too and this is what I look for . Third photo is a huge school of something . Yes channel cats do form large groups. I'm going to take a stab at this and say white bass or other schooling fish such as crappie, might just be shad . . I would definitely toss a buoy and fish it .
  24. And you should never stop evolving . Theres a lot of anglers who think they have it all figured out . I'm constantly reminded by the bass that I dont know all that much .
  25. Learn to fish the Texas rigged plastic worm . Concentrate on detecting strikes and learn how to set the hook . Dont get discouraged . Its the best fish catcher of all time , can be fished anywhere and after learning it all other techniques are easy .
