Can you top me?
I can top you . My last fishing trip was cut short because of a retina going out . My wife asked "what are you staring at?" and I replied "all those birds in the sky ." There were no birds .

Lure size in dirty water w/ current???
Lipless cranks would work the same way . At the time I just had the spinners and they were cheap ones too . I couldnt afford to lose expensive lures .

Lure size in dirty water w/ current???
I have experience in this exact situation .I live near the Mississippi river with heavy barge traffic and use to catch smallmouths from the marina as a teenager . My lures were spinners .H & H spinners and the big Beetle Spins they use to manufacture and for some odd reason have stopped making them . This marina is enclosed with rip rap .I would toss the lures upstream at various depths and let them sink until they touched down . As soon as they hit bottom I would pop them up and retrieve just fast enough to feel the blades spinning .I lost quite a few lures but caught some nice smallies . The very best time was immediately after a barge would go by throwing large waves on the rocks , thus dislodging crawfish and bait fish . The smallmouths , white bass, largemouths , and walleye would rush in to try and nab an easy meal. Great memories .

Heron
I watched pelicons herding fish and the Herons knew in advance what was about to happen and positioned themselves to take advantage of it . I was amazed and got some decent footage of it .

Fishing weather questions
I pay no attention to moon phase what so ever unless night fishing . . I find cloudy days tend to have a better shallow bite than sunny days but not always . When I fish from the bank , I carry a medium action baitcaster and a few lures within its weight limits . Most of the time they will be sinking lures rather than diving lures . That way I can cast to various depths and fish tight to the bottom during the entire retrieve . There is no secret . Just make a lot of cast let the lures sink and vary the retrieve . If you happen to find a snag , fish it with a texas rig or jig .

Night bass fishing please help
I have only fished at night in clear water a couple of times . In murky water I have done it a bunch . My best areas by far are main lake points. The same places that produce during the day with the same lures .

Is it wrong to think top water has small window of opportunity?
I dont stick with them for long if I'm not getting bit . If the conditions are right , clouds , slight chop on the water I will give them a go but they better produce fast for me or I'm switching .

Red Eyed Shad for white bass and catfish
Spent the past two days fishing Mark Twain lake . I started out largemouth bass fishing and actually caught a keeper on my second cast then nothing for two hours . So I ventured out on the flats watching my depth finder and found an area stacked with fish .I tossed a marker buoy and cast a deep diving crankbait " Rapala Crankin Rap ccr 14 "in ten foot of water and caught a white bass on the first cast . I caught a few more fish with it but the action wasnt as hot as I knew it could be . I then threw a Strike King Rocket shad for several cast , letting it sink then pumping it back in and caught a couple but could fill the fish smacking it and not taking it . Then switched to the small version of the Strike King Red Eyed Shad with rattles and "Oh Boy.". In two days I caught a couple of hundred whites and about twenty catfish both channels and blues .I never had much luck with the RES until then but now I'm a convert . That lure wiggles on the way down through the water column and it often did not reach bottom . Then I would swim it a little and kill it . The bites came both when swimming and dropping . I used three colors . The best color was a duller version of the Sexy Shad , dont know the name but its not as bright as sexy shad .

Best lures for new lake, river and pond.
For new lakes I would use new lures , leave those old ones at home .Just kidding . How to fish a new lake is a very good question and is asked often . The simple answer is to match the lure and technique to the conditions . It becomes easier with experience . So what are the conditions of the water you are fishing ? Clarity , depth , cover , food source , water temp.. .Give information and you will receive a lot of suggestions .My default answer it to fish Texas rigged worms everywhere .
- Any fall fishing tips with rubber woms?

Crank bait deflection
If you dont deflect , give the lure a quick twitch with the rod and often the bass will jump all over it .

swimming or jigging a grub?
Ive been catching white bass by the hundreds on grubs , Red Eyed shads , and Rocket Shads .I hop them and swim them . When swimming I halt after a few turns of the handle and let it sink to the bottom . sometimes they hit it falling or when I start the retrieve . My biggest fish have come when I get the lure straight under the boat , then I lift the lure a few inches and hold it still .

It's Not Fall yet.
I think ,the problem is fishing pressure . Bass are not migrating up the creeks just yet and they have been hammered all summer . I use to have a honey hole that nobody else fished . I won a September tourney there and the word got out . Now you cant catch a fish there this time of year.
