  1. Both have their pros and cons I have had a" lot" of 100 bass days with lures , not exaggerating . Lures will cover more water . Sometimes lures will be more efficient .
  2. Here is some of roland Martins 101 secrets . https://books.google.com/books?id=M7ctAgAAQBAJ&pg=PT90&lpg=PT90&dq=jig+and+eel&source=bl&ots=VhY5bqZ6pT&sig=4nYAcs9mQ6oIWeHqkaf7pH8WLRs&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0CDUQ6AEwA2oVChMI4OOh-bjixwIVxe0eCh2_PQ6R#v=onepage&q=jig%20and%20eel&f=false The only book I have read , I think was by John Fox .
  3. Texas rig and crankbait .
  4. 2 acres and 50 foot deep. I'd get a nice fillet knife and try to wear it out .
  5. I dont know if this will work , I also used a tube with the twist lock hooks and there just isnt enough plastic to hold onto. Next time I'm going to put a short piece of plastic worm in the nose of the tube . It should hold on good .
  6. ... and to add to that excellent post never let the backwash from the electric motor push water on the spot you are trying to fish .
  7. The most common mistake I see people who have limited boat fishing experience make is to stay away from the shore and make perpendicular cast . Parallel cast are usually more productive , especially on steep banks because it keeps the bait in the strike zone for the entire cast. Even on flatter banks once a productive depth is established one should position the boat at that depth and make parallel cast . I do a lot of off shore and bank fishing and always try to keep the bait in productive water for the longest period of time .
  8. I dont know if this link will work but heres an excerpt from Roland Martins 101 Secrets about jigs and the jig and eel. Its a pretty good read . https://books.google.com/books?id=M7ctAgAAQBAJ&pg=PT90&lpg=PT90&dq=jig+and+eel&source=bl&ots=VhY5bqZ6pT&sig=4nYAcs9mQ6oIWeHqkaf7pH8WLRs&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0CDUQ6AEwA2oVChMI4OOh-bjixwIVxe0eCh2_PQ6R#v=onepage&q=jig%20and%20eel&f=false
  9. I had a bottle of white Pork o's but only used them as a jerk bait. I didnt catch much that way .
  10. Dont know the pattern name but I have caught a lot of fish on black with white stripes .
  11. Salt will rust your hooks. I have kept a salted worm on a jig and it ate it up . I have put the used plastics back in the bag , doesnt hurt anything .
  12. I have tried it for a few cast. It just was to slow for the way I was fishing that day and I went back to a slip sinker. I will give it another go some day.
  13. I have an 80 lb thrust Maxxum and love it. Like others have said get variable speed . I had a five speed Minn Kota All terrain and used it twice. speed 4 wasnt enough even in a light wind and speed five was full blast and much too hard to control .
  14. Older anglers had an advantage in that we did not get a lot of bad advice from the internet . LOL
  15. What a beautiful fish .
  16. Caught July 31 full moon at two AM. on a crankbait. I dont know the weight . It was really long but no stomach.
  17. I catch small bass on every medium sized lure .
  18. There are domesticated squirrels in my back yard .
  19. Jig and pig .
  20. Cool . I like the tentacles. I put tentacles in plastic worms when I'm bored during the winter .
  21. I cant tell bass by the way they are positioned. Im not saying you cant .
  22. Are you using an elec. motor ? If yes , where is it mounted ?
  23. I did not know that doll flys were originally made out of Polar bear fur. I wonder how he acquired the polar bear fur to make millions of jigs .
  24. Thanks for the history lesson WRB . . I wish I could have fished some of the reservoirs back then. I have been lucky enough to fish virgin structure and it is not even comparable to todays public honey holes. I cant imagine what those lakes were like before the bass fishing explosion . When I was a boy I ust to ride my bike to the Mississippi river and walk along the banks poking a white or yellow " Doll Fly " around every piece of cover I could. I did not cast them just jiged them and caught lots of diiferent spieces that way.
  25. I dont think its the equipment either . I've been using mono for decades. Quoting Catt " Its operator error " .
