  1. I gave my Johnson centuries away . Not because I didnt like them. Theres an older fisherman who I have a lot of respect for and that is all he uses. He reverses the spool and uses them upside down on fly rods. Only centuries have that capability . Being they are hard to come by , I let him have them . He will get a lot more use out of them than I .
  2. I can go to my local 200 acre lake in the summer and almost always catch bass from bank . I'll go to the dam and use a sinking bait most often. Pre rigged swimbaits work great and are inexpensive because I will lose one or two , but anything that sinks. Cast out into deeper water and let the lure settle. As soon as it hits , lift it and reel it in. The lure will follow the bottom contour from deep to shallow . Sometimes i let the bait fall back to bottom. Its a pretty dependable way to catch fish .
  3. Crimp the rivet so it doesnt turn with the blade. Also bend the rivet and blade to get the most surface area as possible touching. After use that can be bent to where just a small part of them are rubbing together .
  4. The worm I made was originally designed for deep fishing but the end product was more suited for shallow water .Weightless it walks the dog but I have had the best luck with a 1/4 ounce sinker and fished shallow. Every worm has a bubble in the nose , not on purpose , so the bait has to be pegged. I melt used plastics and pour them in the plaster of Paris mold. I have some other models carved out , but havent made molds for them .
  5. Not only that but I would throw lizards and craws in the same category. They are just to similar and fished the same way to be put in a separate category .
  6. I do crimp the rivet .
  7. Heres my creation. I carved the model out of a piece of 2x4
  8. From bank a plug knocker would not work very well .
  9. With all due respect , I believe you are wrong . Maybe if the bass are in and out of the water a lot , but as long as they are left in it , they have no fishy taste. I dislike the fishy taste too and the bass I fillet dont have that taste .
  10. I do it all the time . The fish taste great.
  11. mono works fine on a baitcaster. You just need more practice or a different baitcaster .
  12. I like for the trailer hook to swing free , so I "usually" dont stick the eye in the tube .
  13. Buzzbaits for me too. I fish for fun and smallmouths plus buzzbaits , thats as fun as it gets. I have also buzzed five inch grubs . Smallmouths will jump all over a buzzed grub .
  14. Because they cost more .
  15. If the fish are not biting like I think they should , I try to guess why. If I think its fishing pressure then I will switch colors. I have had excellent results with a clear worm with flake when other colors failed . I dont like to randomly make choices . I try to use reason . If I get it right , great . If not , oh well . Think about your changes before making them. You will still get it wrong most of the time but when you get it right it will stick in your memory a lot better than just reaching for anything different .
  16. My first club tourney I showed up with a Zebco 802 and an upside down Johnson Century . I didnt even know baitcaster's were used for casting lures . Second bass tourney I had two used Abu 5000's with high speed gears installed. I used a big Blakemore CC spinnerbait because it was the only thing I had heavy enough to cast. LOL. and I won that tourney .It was all luck.
  17. What spincaster do you like best ?
  18. I avoid the heat now days , but use to love it. Texas rigs were by far the most productive lure I used in the heat. If it was windy I also threw a big chugger , like a Pico Pop .
  19. I understand Chinese . I'm going to enjoy my fishing experience today .
  20. I often have bass on a stringer when fishing from a john boat. They can be on there for hours and are in good shape when I'm done fishing even in the summer. The constant water flowing through the gills keep them oxygenated. I fillet them at the lake , throw the fillets in an empty ice bag and cooler , then rinse and put in the fridge too eat the next day . I love those slot limits .
  21. I straighten them back out after large bass bend them up .
  22. The old H&H spinner. I love those things .
  23. I have some 1/4 ounce lead bullet weights with a skirt collar . Couple that with a parasite clip like A Jay mentioned and you have a jig profile with the weedlessness of a Texas rig and the craw will stay put . Use a bobber stop to peg the weight in place . I cant find the web site where I bought them .
  24. Pork is durable all right . Used it for decades .
  25. I use the same lures then as I do the rest of the year. Match the lures to the conditions .
