  1. Spinnerbats might get the job done .
  2. Not for me. I still cringe everytime I bounce a Bagley's off a bridge piling .
  3. I use a 6.5 foot medium action casting combo but a lot of lengths work just fine.I think I could go back to a 5.5 foot rod and perform even better when it comes to accurately tossing baits short distances. The lakes i fish get hammered with spinnerbaits and the bite usually just dies in late spring even though cranks are still catching them. Then I go with smaller blades and less visible colors to still catch fish . I try to make the lure invisible . I also like to throw a modified beetle spin " jig hook , spring bait keeper , small paddletail worm , and spinner " rigged weedless to get the bait deep in the snags . Those small blades work well and will continue putting fish in the boat all year.
  4. If the water has muddied up and got higher , that can shut down the bite . If you have post frontal conditions with bright blue skies and cooler temps , that can negatively effect the bite too. Texas rigs are a good choice .
  5. Bass learn . Ive experenced it. I had one spot where the bass never seen a lure and followed me around. I caught and released them. Each time I fished the spot it became more difficult.
  6. A few older gentlemen were talking in a a bar about bass fishing. I was not in on the conversation , but just listening. It was funny as could be. One guy said . "I have two lures and if the bass are not hitting either of them , then they just are not biting . "
  7. Unpressured bass are a "lot" easier to catch than heavily pressured fish.
  8. Its a 200 acre conservation lake loaded with small bass. No personal boats are allowed only the ones the conservation dept supplies . I didnt see one other boat bass fishing . There were a few people crappie fishing . I only caught three that were above fifteen inches . Most fish were in the slot 12 to 15 inches. I kept my limit of 11 inchers . A thirty fish day on this lake is a bad day .
  9. I've had a lot of 100 fish days .Yesterday was one of them .
  10. Today was my first fishing day of the year. First fish was caught on a beetle spin like bait. Then the next 99 were caught on buzzbaits .
  11. Giva a man fish and you feed him for a day Teach a man to fish and... well... there goes your fishing spot .
  12. If I'm not catching fish , then I may as well be not catching big fish. I'll often move on deep flats and fish crankbaits or Carolina rigs hoping for a big bite .
  13. If some lures work real well when the fish are not biting , just think how good they would be when the fish are biting .
  14. I think early spring is best.
  15. What , a snake bit the boat and left two puncture holes ?
  16. I heard a story many times of a swimmer who was attacked by a ball of cotton mouths , only it happened in a farm pond. Funny thing is , there are no cotton mouths this far north. People believe it anyways
  17. I also heard a story about a ball of water moccasins attacking a swimmer except it was in a farm pond. Funny thing is water moccasins dont live this far north . LOL Still , people believe it .
  18. I fish a 200 acre lake a lot. The only boat allowed are the Conservation boats , 14 foot flat bottom johns .Electric Motors are allowed. I catch quite a few large bass on this lake and several times people have asked me how I catch them. When I tell them where and how they say its the same thing they do. The big difference is they are just to dang loud .
  19. I like snakes . i was swimming in a southern missouri creek a few years back. Everybody got out of the water because of a snake . They were frantically yelling at me to get out . I just laughed . It was just too funny. I never understood the phobia .
  20. I have a bass baby too. I took an old trolling motor , gutted it , shortened the length and mounted the depth finder on it . Then I can just clamp it on .
  21. Has anyone actually seen a salamander try to sneak into a nest guarded by a bass and try to nab a few of its eggs ? Just doesnt seem likely to me .
  22. My favorite square bills have tight actions and no rattles. They are older baits . The SK square bill , that gets raved about often , has a lot of action and I dont do near as well with it as a vintage Rogers Big Jim .
  23. 1: If its still cloudy ,favorite post rain lure is a buzzbait. Sometimes the buzzbait bite dies when it stops raining , then spinnerbaits likely get the nod. 2 : This may sounds strange , but when I'm in the back of a calm shallow cove and I can see bass feeding , a weightless or lightly weighted large grub buzzed on the surface has been more effective for me than anything . Those bass can be spooky and that subtle bzzzz just doesnt scare them as much .
  24. Really. Thats cool . Now I'll be smashing all my tails .
  25. I know it may come at any time but historically when have you had your biggest limits ? Ive always read where post spawn fish are the most difficult to catch but that is when I expect to load up .
