I use to fish plastics a lot more than I do now. For more than thirty years they were my number 1 bait . I purchased Jelly worms by the hundred packs. For the last several years now , they have probably only accounted for about 10 percent of my fish . Crankbaits have really been hot for me . I dont know why but I'm catching more fish now on cranks than I ever have before .

DOA makes a pinch on weight thats exactly what you are looking for. I have used them . I add them to spinnerbait hooks also .

Mister twister Sassy Shad has been hammering bass in current for decades .

Have any of you used it much in Standing timber ? I always thought it would work good in S T but just havent used it there .

I change quickly but really cant answer an exact time limit because every outing is different. I change , baits , locations , depths , speed retrieves ...I figure , unless the fishing conditions are horrible and just a few fish or a single fish is expected , then there is no sense doing whats proven not to be working .

I would be thrilled to have met Al Lindler . Him asking questions proves that good anglers are always trying to learn. No-it-alls never ask , just answer. LOL

...but why arent the fish biting ? . Ive seen many days where the finesse presentation were the culprit and a speedy retrieve was the solution .

I met Tom Mann. He was emcee of a tournament I won . Bad part is I was and still am a die hard Jelly worm fisherman but in that tourney, I fished a Lizard from another manufacturer. I should have fished a jelly worm, as I won by a large margin . I was actually embarrassed that I didnt fish my favorite bait and the manufacturer was asking me what lure was used .

I was using Bill Dance and Tom Mann hypothetically . I just wanted to stress that it is an easily found , textbook piece of structure that has immense fishing pressure .

How would you go about fishing a textbook point on a heavily fished reservoir? I mean a popular point that everybody with basic skills can easily locate and fish. It extends far in the lake , creek channel swing on it. You watch it day after day and boat after boat pounds it. Bill Dance fished it in the 60's and told the world how to fish it. Tom Mann bounced Little Georges on every inch of it. Would you even bother fishing it now ?

Blackmax , those offshore fish are much harder to find than they once were. Everybody knows how to find the textbook spots. read maps ,get GPS coordinates.. I have given up on places where I use to catch limits of fish and win tournaments . Youre not alone . I have become a much better bank beater the last few years out of necessity . Fishing is one of the few things in life , I can stay focused on. I fish for hours on end trying to perfect a pattern for the day . My goal is to catch numbers and large fish and if I have to move to the banks than so be it . I cannot force the fish to bite I can only encourage them .

After I get to the water I make a decision what to tie on based on current conditions. I then rig my rods and take off. Often I make the correct choices , sometimes not . I really dont choose what to throw first because its a favorite. I must have a reason why a lure is tied on based on current conditions. I must have a reason for each cast or pitch i make. I must have a reason for every change I make . Its just a little head game i play that keeps me focused. Then when I do start catching fish I hopefully have a good idea why .

If your bank fishing they wont work .

BUzzbaits work in calm water , especially early and late.

I use the hound dog. It is never fast or easy but eventually they become unsnagged .. I may have to add some chains to it.

I think your on the right track with the weedless hooks and wire guards. They work pretty good .

I'm guessing you're fishing from bank. If I was fishing from bank I wouldnt be bumping my expensive cranks into snags. Like you I'd stick with plastic.

I think a worm is a worm and still use Jelly Worms on almost everything.

I rarely deep hook a bass with a worm. Crankbaits are the worse offenders for me . I had to quit using a bait one day because the bass kept taking it deep . Switched to a Rick Clunn crank and the fish were then barely hooked . Ended up catching more bass on it because I didnt have to perform surgery on every fish .
