  1. I've never done it but if I was wanting to get one deeper them I'd try a weight on the line .
  2. As far as rods go , a 6.5 foot medium action rod will work well for medium sized cranks and spinners. I would get medium sized lures . Bomber and Norman crankbaits are excellent and inexpensive . Spinnerbaits , I'd go for whatever is inexpensive with ball bearing swivels.
  3. 1 Dont let the trolling motor blow water on the spot you are fishing. 2 No dropping anything on the bottom . 3 Dont let momentum and wind push you on top the fish .
  4. Last week the bass were slapping at a floating minnow I was throwing but not committing. I changed to a buzzbait and caught bunches of them . So keep changing until you get it right .
  5. Wait , your friend filleted the fish then gave you the carcass?
  6. Just fry those crappie whole. Crappie meat easily flakes off from around the ribs. Just take your time and be careful .
  7. Post spawn is floating minnow time .
  8. They fillet carp and buffalo in a way that the ribs get cut up and dissolve when fried but not bass. Remove all the ribs from bass .
  9. I always hear people learning to cast left handed because its faster and you dont have to switch hands. LOL KVD and I often switch hands before the lure even touches down .Cant get any faster than that .
  10. Tubes have always been hit or miss for me. One day I was using black gizits in 6 to 10 foot of water on a point. I would raise the lure off the bottom to close to the surface and let it fall. Dont know what the technique is called , if anything. Anyway the bass were hitting at the surface or close .
  11. Thats not much of a fluctuation , less than two feet. If I were fishing below the dam , Id go when they were releasing water , the bass are probably feeding better then . On the lake I cant answer except I'd just go fishing . If there is visible current I'd try shallow on points in my stained water . Looks like they are releasing it at about 24 hour intervals and now it may have stopped .
  12. I cant remember . It might be one in my avatar. I caught all of those fish with a cane pole , bobber and worm .
  13. Might try a small floating minnow like a Rebel . Try letting it sit motionless until all the ripples disappear. Sometimes the bass cant stand that.
  14. I second the mora . A stainless steel clipper will cost about twelve dollars . The sheath although cheap can be clipped in a pocket, waist band ,belt ... They are great cutting knives . Plus a fixed blade on a dangling sheath is mighty handy when one hand is busy messing with a lure caught in a tree limb . LOL
  15. Kids playing a joke. You never know what the kids in my neighborhood are up to. A big fake bullfrog turned up at one guys pond. It looked real except the size . LOL
  16. Im going to guess someone "like I did " ordered fifty lures for twenty dollars or so from the back of a magazine forty years ago. A lot of those lures look like the ones I received .
  17. Being the waters I fish are usually stained green , deep diving cranks doesnt make much difference to me. I just use whatever tickles my fancy at the time. Shallow cranks I definitely like a bluegill imitator with a good amount of yellow on it . Like the one second from the bottom. Thats a real nice color that the bass inhale.
  18. It is illegal to indiscriminately kill snakes In Missouri.
  19. The lake I fish most has no vegetation because of grass carp. I catch just as many fish , just had to change my approach .
  20. Those eagle claw 45 autos caused a lot of line twist too.
  21. When it comes to walking baits , short rods work better. Ive tried a spook on long rods and short rods. Rods like yours are much easier to impart the subtle twitches needed to make a Spook work correctly .
  22. The Jelly worm is a fish catching , tournament winning , record breaking bait that I still choose more than any other soft plastic . .
  23. I run into that problem occasionally . Its the worm not being completely straight. If you're texposing, it cant be done with just any hook. Some hooks have to be buried in the worm to keep it straight or it will be kinked and will cause twist.
  24. This post got me thinking as to why I dont catch as many fish on soft plastics and catching more on hardbaits .Maybe it has something to do with the lakes I fish getting older and there is not as much cover as there once was .
  25. I cant help you but thats one handsome bait .
